I don't know about many of you, but I want to be a professional writer. Being published online is one thing, but getting your stories out there and making money can be a hassle. There are plenty of sites out there that want to allow you to create your own site, but cost an arm and a leg ...

Enter Wix.com ... I saw a commercial on TV for it, and they advertised a free website. I was obviously dubious, but figured what harm could come from checking it out? It really is free!

Sure and there is a Premium membership that requires payment, but you can make your own kick-ass website for free. I love free things. And it's not just for writers, either! It can be for whatever you want.

I made my own page, and I'm still working on it, so I'm not publishing it in the search engines. But I can still link folks to it.

So check out mine, and you can even make your own just by going to Wix.com ... You'll be surprised at what you get for free with Wix!

Since wix moved from being entirely flash-based to HTML5 there have been improvements to its service. As it is, I still wouldn't recommend it - especially for a writer's website.

As a writer you'd be better served utilising a blog tool such as blogger.com or wordpress.com - these may not be as visually exciting as some wix designs but they are a hell of a lot easier if you decide that you'd like to change the template at some stage. The host advertising on these sites is also a lot less intrusive. Alternatively, you could get just as much by concentrating your efforts on a facebook page.

If you're looking for an free online shop, it might be worth checking jimdo.com

Get your own URL too but don't get it from Network Solutions or GoDaddy. Use 1&1 or 123reg instead.

Why not read some stories instead

This may be totally the wrong idea for what is intended here, but I have a couple tumblr websites where I also keep My stories. That way others who do not know about Lush can come and read them as well. Tumblr is very easy to use and there are several other Lush members who have sites on tumblr as well. And like wix, you can use tumblr for a variety of things - stories, pics, or your own personal blog.
I'm actually fond so far of the way that Wix is setup, and I've found that altering the design of my page is fairly easy. Of course, I'm also pretty computer-savvy and can figure my way around without many problems.

I haven't developed a Tumblr yet, though I have been playing with a WordPress blog. My Wix page can be linked to both.

MAYBE I bit off more than I could chew with the Wix page in terms of having actual work ready for purchase, which is the reason for the site versus just getting my stories out there.

I have a BooksieSilk account, which is a great site to share all kinds od stories, and they have a non-erotic counterpart, Booksie.com ... both great sites.

Altering a design in wix is simple enough, changing template is actually impossible. Their advice: create a new website...
