To me Star Wars is sort of kids stuff like a western set in outer space albeit entertaining. Star Trek although it sometimes has a preachy feel to it does have a more intelligent and optimistic approach to the subject. It is also more believable in itself for example - light sabres are really too much to take. If Al Capone went for Luke Skywalker with a tommy gun I think Capone would win.
