Ugh.

I’m sorry, Suzanne.

This time, two entries were made before yours. Because of that, your entry does not count again.

Try refreshing your screen occasionally to make sure someone hasn’t answered before you.

856. Chorus (Erasure)

A song beginning with the letter “S” is next.
Quote by ]If you want to improve your writing, you need to go up against the best. You need to learn how and why a story was better. Then you need to work on your own skills.

That goes for all aspects in life.

Why create a false reality / competitive environment where only those who've not won competitions or have developed their writing chops to very high standard, aren't allowed to enter?

I would love for all our best writers to enter every competition. But these kind of threads have made some shun our competitions now, which makes me really sad.

Literature will ultimately be the loser if our best writers are restricted from entering competitions. And I won't stand for that.

{Sigh.} :really

Do I have to bust out my original comment on this topic? Fine.

Competitions are … competitive. You can’t go in expecting to win. Of the 14 entries right now in the current competition, one of the stories in particular stands out for me as a potential winner. Although I entered first, it ain’t mine.

Many writers here could be professional authors, if they aren’t already. That’s your competition (people with proven talent that have put in years of work), along with the nearly 540,000 members in general on this site (not all writers, obviously, but still).

If you just want to write stories without official recognition, that’s an equally valid way to use the Lush® platform. Nobody’s going to judge you.

But judgement is par for the course in contests. If you want to win, place, show, or make the top ten, you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Here’s some help for those who need and/or want it.
851. MCR Calling (Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott)

Is this a “song” in the traditional sense?

I’ll let you be the judge of that. However, there’s a YouTube link and album information, so I say it counts.

Call(ing) or a song beginning with the letter “C” is next.
While some of us are remembering Earl Simmons, I can’t believe I overlooked one of his absolute classics.

His music was scorching hot when he was at his absolute best.

I’ve got to say, the announcement is hitting me harder one day on. Knowing his history, I guess I knew something like this was always coming, but it still hurts.

What a loss.
