So... I don't mean to bitch about this constantly... but I'm gonna anyway.

Re the Team Event ice dance competition. The rumours about a 'fix' being in for Virtue and Moir to get knocked off their reigning Olympic champion title will rise up again because of the way the freedance was judged.

During a competitive year, skaters (especially in ice-dance) tend to top their season's best scores with each successive competition in the season, provided there are no major blips. The goal is to 'peak' at the biggest event - in this case - the Olympics.

Virtue and Moir's season's best this year was around 112 pts. So how is it that at the Olympic Games - at their peak - with perfect twizzles and no element deductions in that freeskate - did they only get 107 pts (a huge drop from their season's best). And Davis and White - who actually messed up on one of their twizzles (which is a very important element) got 114 pts - a full 7 points higher, which is basically unheard of. In all the years they've competed - these teams have always been barely a point or two apart. They both competed with these exact same programs in December and were barely a point apart.

When it comes down to it, they are both very accomplished and skilled teams, albeit with very different styles. But... a 7 pts difference is going to get some talk. I was involved in skating when I was younger, so I know enough to see when something looks 'off' with the integrity of the scoring - it's not even the placement of these teams - it's the lack of subtlety in that gap when Virtue and Moir delivered a clean skate that's hard to explain. Not to mention D/W setting a new world record in freedance scoring with botched twizzles.

But anyway... I guess when it comes down to it - it's fucking figure skating at the Olympics. Sighs. It's a shame for both teams though with the spotlight on the rumours/scandal.

Ok, I'll shut up about it now. Well, at least for a few more days.

to Schinlder's list? yeah, just watched it too. i mean, seriously, she'd have to just go out on the ice, flip off the judges and not skate in order to lose, right? smile

How crazy that she almost quit skating last year. She has a huge future.

Julia Lipnitskaia. just wow...

I thought she was going to snap her own leg off and twirl it like a baton in one of those spins.

Holy freaking flexible!
Just watched women's moguls as two sisters, Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe, pick up the Gold and Silver medal!
How awesome would that be - to be competing (there are actually three sisters competing at the Olympics) and then placing right next to each other on the podium. Talented family!

Yay for them and yay for Canada!

oh, i loved the ballet, and i thought of you while watching it and you're wrong, the pants MADE the outfit biggrin Slovenia's were nice, too.

Oh, come on. Haha.

Ok, at least the guy's in the white pants looked good. The rainbow sherbert coats weren't my favourite, but they weren't totally awful. But red + floral = nooooooo. Even plain red would have been better. These are like those bridesmaid dresses you know you'll never wear again that get shoved to the back of the closet after it's over.

On the other hand:

Nicely played, Team France! *whistles*

just watched the Dutch sweep the 5000m long skate in speed skating. really enjoyed the opening ceremonies. well done, Russia. smile watching Johnny Weir talking about figure skating right now. good thing they didn't let any gays in. Oh, Brian Botano's there too. biggrin

loved Germany's uniforms! hated ours, tho. damn, what were they smoking?

and yes, slopestyle it SOOOO cool! :)

Yep, I thought the Opening Ceremonies were really well done - loved the ballet the most. I think best dressed athletes award goes to Great Britain and France.

And yes, I think the US uniforms were a total fail... sorry Ralph Lauren - I wanted to love it but it reminded me of the dreaded christmas sweaters where you expect to see Rudolph or a festive snowman patched onto the back. Just way too busy, imo.

Germany's was definitely attention grabbing but a little too 'sorbet swirl' for me. If they had ditched those floral red pants they might have been ok.
Men's slopestyle is fantastic - loooove this addition to the Olympics. I'm amazed watching the quality of those aerial jumps.

In other Olympic news... looks like I was right about the shady ice-dance predictions. News just broke about a vote-swapping deal between the US and Russia, coming from french sports magazine L'Equipe, the paper that broke the Lance Armstrong scandal.

I'm happy the media is talking about it *now* before the event even occurs. Under additional scrutiny, I wonder if it will affect the integrity of the judging. Probably not, but one can at least hope that athletes are rewarded fairly. Imagine a crazy notion like that, right?

Ice Dance Gold is Fixed]

The fix is in.

L’Equipe, the French sports magazine, quoted on Friday an anonymous senior Russian coach who says Russia and the United States have set up a “proposed barter” to help each other at the Sochi Olympic figure skating events.

Because they are not in direct competition with each other in these events, the United States would help Russia win the team gold event, while Russia would reciprocate by supporting U.S. ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White win gold over defending Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the L’Equipe source said.

Love all of the above, except fishing.

I've done some snorkelling, surfing, canoeing, seadoo etc

I've enjoyed boating/yacht, sailing and catamaran but just on the pleasure side of things - not steering.

I love kayaking. I've done a reasonable amount of it (lakes, saltwater rivers, oceans).
My highlight (so far) was a 17 mile sea kayaking trip along the entire Na Pali coastline in Kauai. It was absolutely fantastic.

spoken like someone who has never been thrown in jail for simply being open about their sexuality. ok, look, i get it, politics shouldn't be part of the olympics. these people train for 4 years for their one shining moment in the sun - that said, from what i can see, Russia/Putin was the one that brought politics into it. he could have simply said 'you know? even tho i'm an ass, for these 2 weeks, i'm going to pretend that we don't discriminate against gays and inform everyone to simply look the other way. there's not going to be any arrests of male ice skaters or female hockey players, promise. i hope that the protests don't disrupt the actual athletes or the sports, but i DO hope they make it clear that the rest of the world is looking down on him and demands change - as far as i'm concerned, this is a human rights issue - no different that any other.

Point blank, Sochi should never have been chosen to host the Olympics. From the treatment of LGBT to the security issues to yesterday's revelations that they were poisoning and 'culling the stray dogs in the city and around the Olympic park to make way for the Opening Ceremonies, leaving them convulsing and crying in the streets. Shining a global spotlight on this city has been rather sobering unfortunately. And yet how many Sochis are there out there?

I don't think protests are going to do much in the way of creating change for LGBT because I think it's so culturally and religiously entrenched - it will be verrrry slow, even if laws are changed. When the Olympics fade to black, what happens to the protests, the discussion, and the political pressure? That doesn't mean people should throw up their hands and say "oh well, leave them to it" but the scope of the issues are massive and efforts have to be ongoing, which I hope they will be. The silver lining is the awareness that's being brought to the problem as even cities around the world stage rallies in front of their Russian consulate to make their voices heard.

I honestly can't comprehend living in a place where the state condones and even encourages hate crimes against its own citizens in this day and age. How the IOC is taking a backseat approach to everything after the Olympics were dropped in Sochi's lap is totally beyond me. Human Rights. Animal Cruelty. What's next? Sochi was not ready for the world stage. Personally for me, everything I've read/heard and keep hearing has really cast a black cloud over something I look forward to every four years. I have to imagine it affects the athletes as well.

I read this the other day:

Quote by [url=http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/04/us-olympics-rights-idUSBREA130TS20140204
Reuters Link]
Former Olympic champion and mayor of the mountain Olympic village Svetlana Zhurova has appealed to protesters not to use the Games as a platform to protest about gay rights in Russia.

"I have never seen (this) at any Olympic Games and I would call on the people who are going to protest, that it doesn't make sense," said Zhurova, a gold medal winner in the 500m speed skating event at the Turin Games in 2006.

The Games, which open on Friday, have faced calls for a boycott from gay rights groups after Russia passed a law banning the spread of gay propaganda among minors.

But Zhurova said that sexuality was irrelevant in the context of competition, and that gay and straight athletes would be treated equally.

"For the spectators, it is more important who wins than whether he or her is homosexual or not," the 41-year old former Olympic champion said.

"We are all participants of the Games and we are going to applaud the straight people and the homosexuals just like the previous Olympic Games," said Zhurova, a competitor at four Winter Olympics.

What do people think of that? I'm torn because in order to affect change for LGBT in Sochi, the global stage is a good opportunity to raise awareness. After all, there are a lot of gay athletes that will be competing. Given that the mayor said "there are no gay people that live in Sochi," it's pretty backward as far as discrimination goes. I expect there will be some protests organized etc. On the other hand, does this take away from the athlete's experience and what the Olympics are all about and should the focus only be on competition and winter sports?

it just seems that every year (and this happens in gymnastics too) there's like some sort of scoring controversy and it sort of gets in the way of my enjoyment. i mean, i get it, you can't just go - oh, they skated the fastest time... althought... ice dance racing could be a hit, right? you have to do your routine while headed down a slope alongside the other couples, and the first couple to the finish line wins! biggrin

what do you think of Gracie Gold? she's like the new american darling. she's pretty, that's all i know, pretty much. lol

Yeah, I hate to even complain about ice dance because like I said - back when I was a kid and involved in it, the competitive elite had turned into a bit of a circus on ice - overly theatrical, a lot of two-footed skating and gaudy costumes and major judging BS. The point system is very specific and it's come a long way in being fair by requiring an overall score to be broken down. It forces deductions. I think the American team is excellent - but... if both teams skate without any error and to to the best of their abilities - I believe Virtue and Moir should take it, and based on the way comp judging has been going over the last year, I don't think they will. Anyway, just a hunch. Who knows - there will probably be mistakes made along the way so I might not end up pouting at all. lol

I don't really know Gracie Gold (perfect name!!). Ice dance is the only division I vaguely follow - more because that was my thing for many years when I was a kid. I looked up Gracie - she's very cute, yes. If she wins Gold, the sponsors will be alllll over her. That sport is pretty lucrative if you're a photogenic Disney-friendly female with an Olympic medal. No limits for her! smile

On the skiing front, it's too bad Lindsey Vonn isn't able to compete. I saw her most recent event (post surgery) just before she announced she would not be planning an Olympic run and she was really shaky - nowhere near the top of the pack. More dreams crushed by knee injuries. It's difficult for athletes who push themselves extra hard leading up to an Olympic year and then suffer injuries, crashes, mishaps that take them out of the running altogether. Had she been healthy and able to compete, she probably would have had some gold around her neck.

i'm mixed about the ice skating - i hate the judging part of it - i wish you could just watch it and not worry about scoring - mostly, i like the couples better, and i like the dance version?

Figure skating judging has come a loooong way since when I was a kid. It's broken down into a very specific points system now. Not just a bunch of Russian judges in fur coats punching in a 6.0 for their favourite team. Having said that, ice dance is still the occasional problem child of the division when it comes to judging politics.

In dance, for example, I do believe the American team of Davis and White are basically a lock to win, failing them actually falling on their ass (which would be unheard of in elite level dance), even though the Canadian team of Virtue and Moir (who are the Olympic gold medalists of 2010) are the more skilled skaters. It's been a bit of a trade off, I think. America really wants that ice dance gold and I think there's been some behind the scenes politicking and PR going on. And both teams competing against each other are coached by the same damn coach - how fucked is that?

Anyway... that's my prediction. And I *will* be grumbling about it when it happens.
Picture Polish's Vegas.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

curling! snowboarding! speeeeeed skating are the favs, but pretty much, the tv will be on at all times and tuned to the LYMPICS! ok, shutting up now...

Curling??? Damn, you're hardcore! silly

I'm watching all skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, hockey. Definitely.

Probably watch some luge too. So pretty much everything I'm able to catch except curling. lol I just can't get into curling.

Overall, I do get much more into the Winter Games than the Summer.

My fave events are probably moguls, freestyle skiing and ice dance.

There are also 12 new events at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games like biathlon mixed relay, women's ski jumping, figure skating mixed team, luge mixed team, ski half-pipe (men’s and women’s), ski slopestyle (men’s and women’s), snowboard slopestyle (men’s and women’s) and snowboard parallel slalom (men’s and women’s).

I'm particularly interested in seeing the halfpipe (will be thinking of Sarah Burke though).

Will you be watching?

What events are you most excited about?

Who are your favourite athletes or teams?

This is the thread to discuss winter sports, events, medals, outcomes, brag about your country or favourite team winning, talk about the opening and closing ceremonies and even the political drama and protests.
I don't care that much about guys watches - in that I'm not ogling the label or making judgments on his bank account based on a watch, but these are the styles I tend to like - chronograph, steel/metal or dark leather band. Masculine, a little sporty.

The ones I'm posting are high-end/luxury, but you get the general idea (style-wise).

I think this one is around $200.

Oh my god. I adored him. He was one of my all time favourite actors - truly a seemingly limitless (and rare) talent in Hollywood. He breathed life into soooo many unforgettable cinematic characters. I am just so unbelievably sad to hear this. sad

What an absolutely tragic loss.
I'll go with 2 4 1 3 5

Specifically, I think the underside of where 2 and 4 meet is the most sensitive spot, no? At least that's what I learned in Dick School.

While you're obviously not going to neglect any part of the dick, I think 3 and 5 are nowhere near as important as 2, 1 and 4.
I honestly tend to go very neutral with my lips - glosses with a wash of shimmery colour usually or just a nude lip. I think I own maybe two tubes of actual lipstick.

Right now my favourite is an occasional splurge for Dior Addict gloss. I have used a lot of glosses, but the formula on Dior Addict is close to perfection for me.

The fave colour right now is Diablotine - it looks darker in the tube but goes on a sheer melon pink with some coral shimmer and major shine. It's basically a glossy version of a naturally flushed lip.

I also like NARs - they have some really flattering nude/beachy gloss shades like Greek Holiday and Supervixen.

Right now I'm crushing on Butter London's new tinted balms in those boho neutrals for spring.

I don't do dark opaque colours or red. If I'm going out at night, I still prefer the stronger eye and neutral lip combo.
I had it a couple of times as a kid. It's a bit too sweet for me. I can understand the lure - it's like melting a chocolate bar on a piece of bread. It's just not something I crave or think of buying.
I have, yes. Although that's not usually the exact reason why I'm watching it most of the time, but I definitely see things that turn me on that I'd like to try, tweaks on different positions, different locations. Sometimes it inspires a new fantasy, scenario or fetish that works its way into my mind and becomes something I want to try (or dream of trying).

When I was younger, I definitely watched to learn technique on things like blowjobs, deep throating, DP, rimming, how to handle balls, what to expect with anal etc. I've found it pretty useful as long as you take things in context and strip away the fact that prepping for anal occurs off-scene and a lot of porn is taken to extremes and the positions are modified to allow for camera angles. But yeah, I think you can definitely pick up some new techniques and ideas.

I think in the same way as past generations used things like Kama Sutra and The Joy of Sex, the internet generation uses porn and erotica.

I have considered where it can go off the rails for younger kids that are drawn to the more extreme porn that's becoming commonplace - and by extreme I'm talking about the really brutal fucked up stuff. I often wonder if there is added pressure on younger girls to do the things depicted in vids and clips that are passed around and watched by guys in their peer group. There's definitely a potential downside as porn continues to push the limits in order to offer something new and shocking as more people become desensitized to watching 'normal' sex.
She's a talented girl selling her brand. She's being provocative, she stands out and she looks like she's having fun. Maybe even more fun than Madonna had wearing a cone shaped bra, playing with BDSM gear and humping a velvet bed on stage twenty years ago. And definitely more fun than Britney did wearing a giant snake around her shoulders, hyperventilating in a sauna and kissing her rival female pop stars on stage. It's just part of that music scene. Twerk on.
Ora: The World's Most Sophisticated Oral Sex Simulator

This is the LELO you never realized you totally needed. Until now!

The Ora Review:

If you’ve ever used a vibrator, there are certain things you’ve already come to expect. You’re probably used to the steady surge of vibrational power as you push it inside or place it against your clitoris or g-spot, letting it work its magic. You likely have vibrators that vary with size and shape and intensity. You know there are different programs and patterns that will give you a variety of different sensations. Look in your Toy Box and you will probably find a myriad of subtle differences. Once you’ve collected a few, you may even be thinking that there’s only so much a vibrator can do.

Then along came Ora. And I’m telling you, it’s not like anything you’ve experienced before!

Let’s talk oral sex for a moment, shall we. Up until now, I have never used a vibrator that really made me think of a tongue. Even if I used a traditional shaped vibrator and tried to simulate the movement myself, I have never come close. Not to mention you need to have a rather fast wrist to approximate the speed of a tongue around the clitoris.

I’ve been to toy stores and have seen a few gadgets that were designed to mimic a tongue, and they were shaped like – yes, a tongue. They were also unbelievably ugly and clunky and beige. They had the kind of movement that was limited to ‘back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.’ You get the picture. They approximate the kind of oral sex that would put most women to sleep. The human tongue on the other hand is a talented little thing. It flicks, it swirls, and there are different pressure intensities. A toy can’t do that, right?

It's time to meet Ora from LELO’s Insignia and Luxe Line!

Let’s appreciate the design basics for a moment. This is a beautiful toy. It’s not an ugly flesh colored tongue that runs on batteries. In fact, at first glance, there’s nothing about it that screams sex toy at all. Someone could find this in your drawer or even your suitcase and be none of the wiser. I appreciate such things with toys. Discreet aesthetics and clean lines are important. It also means that you’ll probably be more inclined to enjoy using this with a partner as well. Think of him entering you from behind with your fingers curled through this midnight blue orb, pressing it against your clit and feeling the fast swirls and strokes. Close your eyes and you have your very own little threesome going!

Let’s take a look at the oval shaped pleasure center where all the magic happens:

The silicone is extra soft here and the little tongue simulator beneath it protrudes and moves in full and half circles around your clit as it vibrates. Check out the video at the end of the review to see it in action. There are ten stimulation modes, which means a lot of patterns and variations. In the past, I have been the type to run my vibrators at full speed and skip the stimulation modes. With oral, however, variety is exactly what you crave, so for the first time I was genuinely excited to run through the different patterns and enjoy the new sensations, the swirling strokes and fast flicks. I promise you, it’s a unique experience for even the most jaded vibrator enthusiast who thinks they’ve seen and felt it all. The Ora is going to fill that little void in your Toy Box and bring you something different.

Let’s take a quick look at the product highlights.

The Ora comes in three colors – midnight blue, black and deep rose. I chose the midnight blue and it is gorgeous. This is from LELO’s popular Insignia line and aside from the aesthetics, you can feel the quality of this piece. It has a nice weight to it and it feels natural in the hand. It will remind you of other popular Insignia products like Alia, Isla and everyone’s favorite – the Soraya. Think of Ora as Soraya’s naughty orally inclined cousin.

In the package, along with Ora, you will get the lightweight LELO charger and an instruction manual. With three buttons, the toy is very self-intuitive. There are ten stimulation modes with adjustable intensity, and rest assured that it packs some solid power. It comes with a satin drawstring pouch for discreet storage. You will get the 1-year warranty card and 10-year quality guarantee. It is made of ultra-smooth, body-safe silicone so you can use your regular silicone-safe toy cleaners on this. And it’s 100% waterproof. Yes, you heard it right. Your showers may never be the same again.

Quick Tip: Use a bit of water-based lubricant to get that wet-tongue feel if you’re not already feeling juicy!

My Final Opinion: I love it. In fact, the Ora is now in the running to usurp Gigi for second place in my all time favorite LELOs list. Soraya is still number one, but LELO knocked it out of the park with this one. It offers something standard vibrators (no matter what their shape) haven’t been able to do yet. It’s not going to replace your favorite human tongue, but then again, a human tongue can’t replace your favorite vibrator either. When evolution catches up and we all have vibrating tongues, I will concede defeat. Until then, if you’re not already mixing up your sex life with toys and exploring the range of pleasures available, you’re missing out. I like the Ora for genuinely adding something different to the arsenal of standard vibrators on the market. It offers a swirling, flicking clitoral massage that can be used solo, during phone sex or verbal play, or with a partner during sex. As a pleasure object, it’s beautiful, sleek and compact for travel, so it’s a big win as far as design quality goes.

Ora gets a solid A and it’s an easy one to recommend!

Ora was just released last week and is available at LELO.com right now. It will also be available at a variety of retailers, including the Lush Toy Store, very soon. This is definitely one to put on your Valentine's Day wish list!

Cool vids. This is still my all time fave GoPro footage.
