I think I finally found the solution to drinking and driving...a bar that comes to you...now I just need to get the phone number...just sayin'

Damn, I just found a new breakfast idea...I wonder if I can get this at McDonalds...would it be wrong to ask them to Supersize it?

And this would be the alternative for those on the go btw...

I just thought I had 120 friends here born on January 1...didn't seem strange to me...
Note: This was written for the print anthology..."Mandela, The Man, His Life, Its Meaning, Our Words"...to be released by Inner Child Press in early 2014... and there's still some time to submit btw...if you're a day late, they won't mind...

Madiba

He was the voice of those who had no voice,
The spokesman for the oppressed.
He became a true hero to the downtrodden,
Who had been denied their basic human rights.
There were those who tried to stop him,
But he proved himself a true force of nature.
Because you can arrest the man,
But you can't arrest his vision.
And while they could lock him in a cell,
They could not lock away his ideas.
And while they could put shackles on his body,
They could not put shackles on his dreams.
And those dreams live on,
To the very ends of the Earth,
In every classroom where black and white
Learn side by side.
In every place of worship,
Where young and old gather together,
In every peaceful demonstration,
Where tyranny falls, and liberty reigns triumphant.
And in the cry of every newborn,
That they be born into a world of hope and tolerance,
Where equality and civil rights are the norm.
For you can bury the man, but not his beliefs.
And though his voice may be silent,
His spirit will live on and on.

If you look at my stories, I haven't posted in months, mainly due to my depression of several personal things.

Actually, yeah...as others here have noted, you're not the only one who suffers from depression...I have for years btw...and I haven't posted anything here for a variety of reasons as well...

I agree with Miss Shy Daisy and the rest...if you feel like writing, write...if you feel like posting, post...there's no rule here says you have to post a certain amount per year or anything...and when you do feel like posting again...I guarantee, Lush will be here for ya'
Totally helps...I don't think I could imagine writing a story if I had to use a typewriter, and carbon paper and stuff...I'd be completely lost without a word processor...just sayin'
I've been known to lie to get a lay...oh wait, that's another story...

Nice post, I'll never remember any of it though...

I as a Christian have no problem with what I write, they might if they find out.

I would tend to assume that Haineko is not your real name, so it shouldn't be a problem...and I agree with the others who wish they had your problem...just start writing the stuff up, that's all...
Yeah, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and everyone here as well...

I found a nice tree to decorate this year, looks like a Colorado Spruce...I doubt they'll be any cookies left for Santa though...just sayin'

And of course...no tree is complete without suitable ornaments...Mr. Scooter helped me pick these out btw...

Anyway...just want to note that Christmas this year falls on a Wednesday...and we all know what that means...

And let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas my friends...fortunately for Jesus, he was born over 2k years ago and not today...

And yes...Santa will not be passing up any cookies this year...rumor has it he'll have plenty of appetite...

And finally...the really meaning behind that phrase explained...

That's all for now...I need to go wrap some gifts for the holidays...

Have a great holiday my Lushie Friends...

Cheers,
Alan.
I never actually saw this show, but just saw this and felt the need to post it somewhere...since it seems to be such a hot topic as of late...

I don't think you can help but put yourself into your own stories. Even when you're basing a character on someone else, it's your interpretation and your perception of them.

Yeah, I would tend to agree with that...most of my stories here are written in first person, and the main character is ostensibly me...but, not completely certainly...there's quite a bit of liberties taken here and there...I would tend to say my fictional self is somewhat more adventurous than the real life version, for instance...

Heck, if I did half the things my fictional self did, I'd probably be serving a life sentence in a penitentiary somewhere...just sayin'
Here's another list you might find useful...I happen to think it's pretty darn good anyway...

It's from the Resources section at the end of this article btw...

5 Rules For Conquering Chaos That Every Writer Should Know
http://bestsellerlabs.com/5-rules-for-conquering-writer-chaos/

Personally, I think the resource section at the end is the best part of the article...but, the article itself ain't too shabby btw...

Never really seen it explained this way before...but, I think this kinda makes sense...

I currently have about five (at least!) stories that are begging me to finish writing them, but I'll just sit and stare at my screen.

Thanks so much, Alan!

Yeah, I usually don't start anything unless I have a pretty good idea how the story will go from start to finish...otherwise, I just end up staring at a blank screen myself...

Here's another article on writer's block someone shared today over on Facebook...I thought this was pretty good...

Unblock Writer’s Block – Guest Post by A R Silverberry

My friend Leila Rose-Gordon has a series in the Examiner on overcoming writer's block, and she talks about me and my 9/11 poem no less, in what I believe is the first of the series...I think this short little article is good in that it points out the value of how even a bad event can be turned into a good thing in the form of inspiration for a story or poem...check it out my blocked writing friends...

Overcoming Writer's Block - a Series

Pro - tons of good stuff to read...

Con - not having time to read much of anything lately...
Another member I knew from another site told me about Lush...she's not on here anymore btw...though she's still over on the blue site, last I checked anyway...

On another note...something tells me there are more than a few forum threads like this one...try the new and improved search feature...

Here's a couple to start you off...

How did you find out about this site and have you told others about it?

How long does it take you to write and do you ever research?

Generally, all the stories are done in one night, with a few exceptions that I can probably count on one hand...I think the only story on Lush that I ever did research for was "Flight Lessons"...and that was reading a couple of Wiki-How To articles on flying a Cessna 172...

Thanks for your replies. My intention is not to offend, or steal, so I will not pursue this.

Yeah, if you got permission from the author first, it would be different...

Btw, I had somebody do something similar once...a reader took my first story, and put herself in it...and made a few minor changes, and sent it back to me...I thought it was kinda flattering actually...but, better to get permission before attempting something along those lines...

Like others pointed out...there is so much plagiarism and bad intent these days, some authors may be taken aback by your actions...no matter how innocent your intent...

Once that's done, I often work at different parts of it at different times. Only rarely do I start at the beginning and just write through to the end.

Interesting...I do that with poems, but never with stories...at least not yet...so far, I've always started at the beginning and sort of kept writing until it ended...

Btw, I don't like to start a story until I have a pretty good idea as to how the whole thing will go...otherwise, I end up staring at a blank screen...
I'm in a book that just came out to raise awareness for breast cancer, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, appropriately enough...here's the link to the book, and you can find out more about it on the site btw...

WX Breast Cancer Anthology
http://word-xpress.com/page/anthology

Here's their Facebook page btw...

"Word-Xpress is launching a breast cancer awareness and community project. Includes videos of personal stories and an anthology of poetry, testimonials, etc"

Word-Xpress Breast Cancer Awareness Video Campaign and Community Project
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Word-Xpress-Breast-Cancer-Awareness-Video-Campaign-and-Community-Project/355145827835061

The poem of mine that is included is I Can Only Be There For You...which was written for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2010 btw, and I'm sure is here on Lush somewhere in my profile...

How to get an ISBN
------------------
In the US you can only buy ISBNs from http://www.myidentifiers.com/,
a site run by Bowkers. You can buy 1, 10, 100 or 1000 ISBNs. At
the moment a single ISBN costs $125, and a pack of 10 costs $250.

In the UK you can only buy ISBNs in packs of 10, which currently
cost £126. You need to obtain them from NeilsenBook.
http://www.isbn.nielsenbook.co.uk/controller.php?page=123

In Canada ISBNs are free! The process of getting an ISBN in Canada
is, however, quite convoluted, but this blog post explains it all:
http://randolphlalonde.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/getting-your-free-isbn-in-canada.html

In Australia, you purchase ISBNS from
https://www.myidentifiers.com.au/. A single ISBN costs A$42, or
you can buy 10 for A$84.

For other countries around the world, I suggest you visit this
handy ISBN information page:
http://isbn-information.com/isbn-administration/isbn-agencies.html

Please note that having an ISBN for your book does not copyright
it. The ISBN is simply a means of having your book identified in
databases and by libraries.

I think of myself as a poet and storyteller. To be a writer would require greater understanding of the technical intricacies of the written word than I possess. I can look at a sentence and know whether it is correct, I can sometimes compose one as well, but I can rarely tell you why in a way that a person with an English degree would consider valid.

See...I would think that by your own definition you are a writer...editors are the people who know where commas go and stuff like that...I think people confuse writers and editors sometimes...

I can tell you with a fair degree of certainty that many popular authors out there don't necessarily have all that knowledge someone with an English degree might possess...they just happen to have good editors...
