Dear pricklypear whether or not you meant your comment as a joke, I don't think it was in any way helpful. It only made people angrier and a mature conversation less likely.
Let me try to be the voice of reason here. People are entitled to their own opinions and we have to respect them and it doesn't matter if we like them or not. That said and after rereading the entire topic I think python really didn't mean to offend anyone. He is trying to get information on an topic that was a in is childhood and make sense of it. He is at least trying even when his word choices and questions are improvable. I also get the other points. I have seen people struggle with their homosexuality and the demand of society to explain themselves. So I just wanna punch those people ( the ones demanding an explanation), but I don't think this is a valid solution. I just can ask you to try to remember where the other person is coming from and to chose your words.
I don't think mother nature is a good alliance for you in this discussion, because I would like to point out she also created gay penguins. (They live in the zoo around the corner from my house and are as happy as the others.) I'd like to state that nature created us the way we are and we have to accept this. You should be careful with what you say, because that statement can easily be interpreted as you saying homosexuality is unnatural and wrong.

Seeing this topic I found it offensive, because the title implies, somebody needs a reason to be gay. People are the way the are and we should accept them for themselves.
However from a scientific point of view I find the whole nature versus nurture discussion interesting. There are actually some indications that homosexuality or at least the inclination for it could be genetic. There have been some genes found that could play a roll in it. Furthermore there seem to be families and areas with clusters of homosexual people, which can be a sign for a heredetary involvement in the appearance of a certain trait.
I don't even know what to say to that. First of all a basic understanding of genetics would make you aware of that a parent doesn't need to have a trait to pass it on to there child. They only need the gene. Additionally there was a time where homosexuality wasn't an accepted "lifestyle" and many people indeed some chose a conventional life with a partner of the opposite sex and even had kids.
I have lesbian friends and when we go out together I noticed one thing. They are not more annoyed by men hitting on them the average straight women is. They just say they are not interested and if he accepts that everything is fine. If he doesn't, I would wanna punch him too. Stupid ideas like "after all we both have our rolls in nature" are the reason why there are such things as reformative and make me really angry.

I like to watch figure skating, even though I know nothing about it.
I watched ski jumping yesterday and it makes me always wonder, who is crazy enough to ski of a ramp and believe he can fly. I once stood at the top of one and it scared the shit out of me.

I would say there is no right or wrong way as long as he keeps attention to my reaction. He will figure it out. However I like variety in all things so try something new once in awhile. When I still lived at home I always put them away, but now I leave them out. Kind of embarrassing when someone finds them. But they never seem surprised. I wonder what this says about me? I should maybe consider putting them away. I would hate for something like this to happen.
