So. The Democratic Convention is in Chicago in August. Sound familiar?

Joe beat Trump last time, but his numbers are worse than they were then. And he’s old af. What are the odds of a contested convention? I know the Party will try to lock Biden in an early as possible, but it’s not a sure bet. I think the last time there was a contested convention with an incumbent was in 1980, with Carter and Kennedy.

Is there enough democracy left in the Democratic Party to recognize most Democrats don’t want Biden as a nominee? What’s gonna happen, and who is going to step up to the plate to contest it? Thoughts?

I like stew and hearty soups

Do you have any tickets to anything cool in the coming year?

Sleep late, get laid, open presents

What is your Christmas Eve routine?

I don't think so.

Have you ever been to a New Year's party that got too crazy?

Depends on the party, but I tend to hang on to the end

BYO party or a fully decked out party?

If we're being honest, the democrats aren't being subtle. Their whole thing has been "Hey, we're fucking you in pretty much all the same ways as the repubs, but at least we're not repubs, right?" I'll concede that Trump's presidency forced everyone to show their hands. But not many of us lefties are naive enough to believe that the democratic party is worth a damn, nor has it been for quite some time. Again, Trump's presidency made the denial of this fact willful instead of misinformed.

I disagree with the "both parties are fucking us the same way" sentiment. The Dems are pretty feckless, but they have actual policies they are pursuing. The Reps have given away policy pursuit (they didn't even bother with a platform in 2020) and form themselves around Trump's latest hate tone poem.

We may disagree on how to keep Trump and the Reps out of office, but you are fooling yourself if you believe there is any equivalency between the parties. This is a stress test of democracy itself.

I really wanna say Rowdy Roddy Piper's fight in They Live!, but I'm going to go with the hallway fight in Oldboy.

Read the article.

Jesus Christ, when will moderates grow a fucking spine?

What is spineless? The article argues that a) the 14th amendment is specific to the Civil War and not meant to be proscriptive and, 2) will trigger the goons and start a second Civil War.

My argument was merely the second part - it'll trigger the goons. Let him lose fairly, in all 50 states. And if he wins, well, people get the kind of government they deserve. We had a democracy and we voted it away.

I hate to come to this conclusion, but I think Trump should be on the ballot here. Otherwise the goon squad can declare the election "unfair" and who knows what the fuck will happen after that. Personally, I fear right-wing terrorists will hit the power grid and infrastructure - they've been practicing, and that's the scariest way to sow chaos. Which is all they really seem to want.

Here's a more reasoned discussion, and I agree as well: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/12/supreme-court-trump-ballot-removal-colorado-wrong.html

No. I only watch two or three. Though I did see Elf: the Musical live!

Candy or toys in the stocking?

On behalf of the Supreme Court of the State of Colorado, you’re welcome.

I barely participate in Christmas.

What’s your favorite minor holiday?

I was frying tortillas once growing up and the oil caught on fire. It was scary af. I threw the pan out into the yard. Burned a wooden countertop. Got in a TON of trouble.

HYE hitchhiked?

1st song

I Can See For Miles

I saw them in concert once in Texas and they opened with this. Great band. Townsend is such a great guitarist. And songwriter!

We saw Elf: the Musical with my daughter this weekend. Great goofy fun. And the narwhal showed up!

Merry Christmas and a chill holiday season everyone!

I was on the Musk train for quite awhile, I am a sucker for space travel. The X/Twitter fiasco showed the world who he really is, and I am no longer impressed.

Still rooting for SpaceX and the Artemis missions to succeed though.

Sadly, it's no longer on Lush, but my favorite title was Serious Moonlight. It was a pretty popular story too

Let's see. I'll say my second favorite title is: Two Kinds of People, because the title is the premise. That said, I 'm pretty fond of Fuckkitty too, because it's hot.

As hot as this is, all I can think of is, "Wow, would that fuck up my back!"

As of today, both my daughters are officially adults (it's youngest's 21st birthday). We're taking her out to Elf: the Musical and her first legal glass of wine.

I also recently finished writing the final chapter to a book that was equal parts writing and exorcism. It was a hard task, but it feels so good to be close to the finishing line.

So, I'm starting out the day in a party-ish mood. Drinks are on me! I'd love a coffee with just a tad of bourbon in it. Layla would dig a Lavender Blossom, her fave mixed drink. Hope everyone is well!

Pbawned no, but I've sold stuff to eat

HYE had a really crappy job you needed to keep to pay the rent?
