Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple tv is frikkin excellent. Kaiju PLUS conspiracy theories. Really enjoying it

Quote by Kee

I'm starting tonight! Just one episode a night to stretch it out over the weekend.

If you haven't read the book, it's SO GOOD! A Great American Novel.

Now that’s plausible.

I'm not excusing Kissinger from the war criminal club. Lots of blood to go around.

Generally those forms of response are a direct reply to the total lack of empathy being put on display by people who can barely spell the word, can't use it in a coherent sentence and find it difficuult to practice it with actual emotions when speaking of 'other people'. In this case, those others are the homeless poor.

I know my way around a sentence, and am generally empathetic, and I got called all that stuff by you (and others). One of the reasons I quit coming here, it was like arguing with toddlers.

So it wasn’t Kissinger, as Rowan says, but Nixon?

I think they share the blame pretty equally. They both have blood on their hands

Wellness, by Nathan Hill. Great read, kind of a David Foster Wallace vibe about it

I have 6 Free Spirit contestant badges. They're nice and all, but 1 would suffice.

It was effective at getting everybody to the peace talks, wasn't it?

Peace talks were already taking place in Paris. A ceasefire had been declared. Nixon was punishing N Vietnam like a petulant parent, and trying to make the American public forget about Watergate.

The Vietnamese, for one.

Cambodians, for another

And someone who took FAFO seriously.

Describing the Christmas carpet bombing of Hanoi just as peace talks were taking place as "fuck around and find out" is certainly unique. Kissinger declared "Peace is at hand" as he and Nixon played the mad king scenario and dropped tens of thousands of pounds of ordinance on innocent civilians for 12 days straight.

I'm not a pacifist, war is sometimes necessary, but that was closer to terrorism than statecraft.

Name of the Story: The Riley Boy (4-part series)
Author: Evie
Link (to part 1): https://www.lushstories.com/stories/cheating/the-riley-boy.aspx
Category: Cheating
The Reason I Recommend This Story: It's a masterclass in economic, yet powerful, description. The way the tension builds between the two leads is exquisite. You can feel every lure and reservation that Marissa has for this boy through the manner in which the story's painted.

There's a reason Evie is such a decorated author here: it's because she knows her craft and uses it to incredible effect. Read this as a shining beacon of her talent.

I love this series and have suggested it before. As you said, a master class in writing, and incidentally hot as fuck.

You can't disentangle the elements like this. Story IS subject matter IS literary merit. They all bleed into each other. It's ALL about story.

Ordering 9 billion pounds of munitions dropped on Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Responsible for at least 6 million civilian deaths we know about, estimates around 15 million on the high end. The forming of the militant Arabic state and funding far right religious extremists who now rule the region. Wiping out a quarter of the population in East Timor. Gave the green light to apartheid in South Africa. Countless dead in South America including funding of far right death squads responsible for butchering countless civilians. Quite the resume.

Damn straight. He and Nixon were vicious thugs. I dread all the revisionist history we are about to hear, like we did when Nixon died. Thugs and killers, both of them. War criminals.

No. My Dad was really into it, and he did a couple of them

This stupid book on tape we’re listening to. It’s bad and long and dumb and we both hate it but we’re determined to finish it because we are idiots

When I was employed? Is IT math? I did a lot of writing too.

Like or dislike the holidays?

Yes. I drove an old beat up Triumph Spitfire when I was in high school. It was more primer than paint, but man it was fun.
