In the interest of clarity, the word 'deserve' was not used anywhere in the OP's post. Also, no one said poetry was easy to write.

Check yourself before you post a ranty response to something that didn't actually talk about what you're ranting about.
*gasp*

Sadness. I do hope he's at peace now. I know he battled his illness bravely.

Rest In Peace, you amazingly talented scribe.

Mods, as far as I know, can't do that. Use the following bit of code for each story link. Use the brackets, get rid of the all caps words and replace with the necessary thing (url, story name). Hope that helps.

Possibly, but a story with glaring grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes has no business being approved for publication, much less being rewarded with a RR. Just my opinion, but it seems that quantity, rather than quality, is becoming more frequent here. How else can you explain a submission to publication time of under 10 minutes on a story with over 3,000 words?

I don't think Frank was saying that at all. As for the quantity over quality issue, you should see what all doesn't make the cut. By far, we return more stories than we approve. Your last question can be answered simply enough. We have some dedicated mods that read fast and know how to do their work. Sometimes errors slip through because we're not infallible. There is no perfect method of moderation. We do the best we can.

Is your inbox slow to load (stop!)?

I think there's a bottleneck happening, our techspurt is looking into it. Takes me about 30 seconds for mine to load up. May have something to do with 20 million messages being stored...

This was actually the reason I asked gav for the inbox delete button (yes, it was me). My very empty inbox now loads very quickly. :-D (of course it does, there's at most one or two messages in it at any given time! )
What about librarians who are bad girls? You know, hair in a bun, glasses, tight white stretch button down shirt, mid thigh pencil skirt, stilettos, looking at you over her glasses while chewing on the eraser end of a pencil (because librarians NEVER use pens ).

I swear, if I could be anything at all, it would be that. So much hiding under such an unassuming exterior.

Oooh, Sparkles. I think we just came up with a new nickname for you. *grins*
Yes, it's new. There is a prompt. I've used it often since it's inception. Love it. heart
So, you just joined today and also lost your first friend today? Talk about working fast.

His name must have gotten added to the reply to list. Messages don't just jump around your friends list. I'm going with user error of some kind.

Good luck, Stephen!
Congrats to the winners and the special mentions alike. Great job!

Thanks for sharing your talents with our community. heart
Story moderator here.

Reluctance is okay, as long as there is eventual willingness BEFORE the act. It must be clear that the reluctant party eventually wants what happens and enjoys it.

Death is a little trickier. We don't allow blatant and gruesome/grizzly descriptions of death. That's not sexy. We also don't allow death during sex. That's not sexy either. However, if the death is not sexually related and not described in detail, it will be considered and most likely approved.

Grammar, punctuation and all that jazz still apply, of course.

I hope that helps.

Hmm. I think all of this open expression of disagreement is agreeable to mental health.

I disagree with all of you except Sprite. I agree with her. Oh yeah.
I gave it up for a year and a half, nearly. Had to go back, though. When your baby demands attention at 7 am after you've had maybe three broken hours of sleep, it's time for coffee.

Who suddenly made YOU an expert on poetry? You haven't even written one so you wouldn't know a good one from a bad one? Personal opinion? You don't like ANY of mine yet 2 of them have Recommended Reads, as do a lot of other poems on lush. A great many poems have EP's. Those aren't given out freely and it is not just the opinion of one mod either. Does that mean you don't know a good poem from a bad one?

I've never hidden the fact I would be upset if the poetry category was canned but I don't post on the forums saying all stories or one particular category sucks. Don't readers want variety? If I had $1 for every time a reader told me they hadn't bothered reading poetry until they noticed one or two on the home page or elsewhere, is be able to shout a few gold memberships. They are only the ones who have mentioned it.

So if readers have to specifically look for the poetry my guess is it's going to bring the numbers down on the poetry. Is that going to be the first step towards getting rid of it altogether?

It's evident a lot of members think poetry is easier to write than a story. A lot of people who say that have never tried writing a decent poem. I have some that I spent a couple of WEEKS fine tuning so how is that any different?

Has anyone even said what the reason is for even wanting to get rid of it altogether?

I don't think anyone wants to do that. Poetry has a place. Now it'll be even easier to spot. Feel like a poem? Change tabs. Boom.
No disrespect meant at all to anyone. Please continue writing what you like.

As a writer of poetry as well as stories, I am concerned about this, since several of my poems might fall into the "emo" category, although I try to give them a happy conclusion - darkness to light. But if we are allowed only to post what are basically optimistic poems, that is to neglect the whole are of unrequited love.
I hope that we will be warned when a poem is to be removed since that does give us a chance to post the, on StoriesSpace.

It's not about allowance. No one's telling you that you can't post them anymore. It's just her opinion, and a personal suggestion. We're all allowed those, yes?

If you're worried that there will be some unspoken vendetta against the sadder poems amongst the moderating team, don't. We leave our personal preferences at the door. Lush is what it is because of all the writers and poets that submit their work. Yes, even the sad love poetry. Keep them coming. Just... maybe try some happy every once in a while (that's to all the sad poets, not just you, dear).

There is a broader problem with "downer" poems - especially for those who repeatedly produce them.

Yes, sometimes we all feel a bit blue, maybe moved enough to put our thoughts down to help them makes sense. But routinely writing this stuff can set you down a dark path. Attention and praise can have a powerful effect for good but they also enforce negative behaviour. If someone is writing 100+ poems like this it's easy to imagine that no amount of positive comments, or 5 votes are going to break them out of their fug. If anything it just encourages them to stay in that mind-set - the perpetual victim. It moves away from catharsis and into dependency.

I agree with you. It's one thing to give voice to your emotions, to allow yourself to feel your grief and pain. It's another thing entirely to take up residence in that dark place.

Try smiling, you sad poets. Smile for sixty seconds straight, even if you don't feel like it. It just might brighten your day.

Oh, most definitely. I just had the most amazing fantasy in the shower...
