Gotta love Newfie place names. I would love to have that as my address, even if it did convince my friends I'd been too much into the screech (Newfie rum).
Morning tea, please. Hot orange pekoe with a lime wedge.
I have been thinking of screech since Newfoundland first came up in the bar. And Newfie Dave, who introduced me to screech. So strong the fumes came looking for you.
Dave used to cut firewood and he heard good things about chain saws, so he went to Eaton's for one. I think he bought a McCulloch. Good saws, but I digress.
The next morning Dave took his time, had a good breakfast and read the funnies in the paper before setting off with his shiny new saw. The results, however, were very disappointing. He actually had less to show at the end of the day than he normally would have with his axe and bow saw.
"Hmm," thinks Dave. "No more skiving."
The crack of dawn next day sees Dave setting off, saw in hand, but come dusk he was not happy. I suggested to him that he take the saw back to Eaton's, that it might need some adjustment.
I went with Dave in the morning and we found the salesman, George, who sold him the saw. Dave explained his problem, and George said he would see what was wrong.
When George pulled the cord Dave jumped three feet in the air and shouted, "What's that noise?"
Pot of tea, please
