I just went through your scores out of curiosity. Of all the < 5 scores (19 of them), two were from competitors. I have removed them.
I do this for every competition.
If it were possible to code it in such a way, I wouldn't allow competitors to vote on each other's stories at all. It's too easy to vote a whole bunch down.
But it has to be a manual process, so Gav has coded it so that I can see the score on every story published here, and the person who scored it.
For this competition and every other I've ever ran, I do this after the deadline day has passed.
It takes me the best part of a day typically to do this for every single story entry (a very laborious and dull process).
Which is why I only do it once usually (believe it or not, I have better things to do with my time) at the end.
So in summary, trying to accurately keep track of who's scored what and where you stand, will be pretty much impossible and a fruitless exercise.

So if I have this right:
I have read and voted on every story so far. My votes are honest, mostly 5s because the standard of writing is quite high. One entry I felt warranted a mere 2, and there was a smattering of 3s and 4s. Because I am a competitor these lower votes will not count for the competition scores but will of course still count post-comp. Had I no horse in this race all my votes would affect the competition scores.
