Walker is a wing back and I'm not in favour of wing backs - they make substandard wingers and substandard defenders. I think that's a pretty valid point. However, in this system you are not relying on wingbacks playing as out and out wingers or defenders. I totally get where your lack of faith in them comes from, but when played as genuine wingbacks, as they would be in this sytem, I think they could be genuinely effective.
Crouch and Defoe compliment each other and are (or were) very good, but I don't think they are international standard anymore. If you want a player in Crouchy's mould, why not Andy Carroll? He's had a poor run, but he is consistent and difficult to mark and always a serious aerial threat, as well as a reliable outball from defence.
