The quality in this one is really good.. It's taking me a while to get through them.. must be over 200K words all in so far.

Tell me about it! I practically need to schedule time to read through them. A great bulk of them are >8k words

Hey! I graduated with a degree in Math. What's wrong with a Math book!

It has a plot (sometimes in multiple dimensions), x's and 0's, and adds clarity to the world!

Leave us Math nerds alone, OK? Go pick on the poetry people.

LMAO I was thinking of saying "little do you know, I'm the type of person who would get off over a math textbook" 🤣

That will do it! Hope it was fun and thank you for participating! šŸ˜Šā¤ļø

Love the mix of winners, from a site admin to someone who appears like she just started writing here this month (well, in October)! All great stories! Congrats everyone!

Winner!!! Kistinspencil worship :worship:

The judge loved the ritual feel of this one and all the spooky details of lying under the willow, moon, wolf’s howl, fiery fingers. Congratulations, Kis! 😊

I remember that one getting a lot of accolades when it was posted! Congrats!

I always love a good fun for the family story, I mean what

Guilty, as charged. I'm loving yours right now.

After reading yours, my mind is churning over a possible space sci-fi idea of my own. Too bad I already have three series going so I'm not sure I have the bandwidth to work on it right now. Maybe I should take notes for the future though haha.

I've started working on my sequel to my "Naked!" story ...

I've been kind of "meh" about it, though. I think the concept of the story is good, but it is almost more slice-of-life with occasional sex than what I'd call a sexy romp. It's also funny because some of my other stories I will just write and be like "how do I already have 6,000 words" and on this one I'll write a chapter and be like "how am I only at 2500 words?" It's weird. I feel like I'm having to stretch out chapters and that doesn't feel very good.

So I did a whole new fleshed out outline for the chapters in this story and I've done, more or less, a re-write of the first six (was seven) chapters, some getting a slight facelift while others were pretty much gutted. I feel a lot better about where that story is now and my plan for writing through it in the future. Yay!

I think I get done reading through the list then another 10k monster appears. NOOOO (but also YESSSSSS)

They’d met at the Hallowe’en ball - he was tall, pale, and devastatingly handsome, and stood out in his long cape and white shirt. The moment their eyes had locked, she was lost. She couldn’t resist, she had to take him home.

Later, as he lifted his head from between her legs, she could see blood dripping from his fanged mouth.

ā€œI think your period’s arrived,ā€ he mumbled.

oh...oh no 🤣

We met ā€˜trick or treating’ and continued doing so together. There was an immediate sexual desire between us evident until we finished two hours later. At that time, she was salivating intensely, and so was I, starring into each other’s eyes. With no words spoken we both knew what we wanted next.

So, McDonalds it was, and we shared two Happy Meals with strawberry milkshakes.  We then had sexual intercourse.

Okay that one made me laugh

I will say, this made me cut out all the superfluous wording I have a bad habit of putting into my stories lmao:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

ā€œQuickly!ā€ Vickie urged Charles, the random guy stuck in the room with her. They were both tricked into being there, the only item being a note explaining that he had to make her orgasm before the descending ceiling crushed them.

The ceiling dropped rapidly. He furiously worked until Vickie let out a victorious, orgasmic scream.

A door opened, allowing both to escape.

ā€œNow, for round two,ā€ a dark voice spoke.

As you might be able to tell, I have given quite a lot of thought to a possible solution for the future of the novel genre. Here is my suggestion.

1. Remove the novel genre from the Omnium badge.

2. Make the novel genre an optional opt-out genre (like fantasy currently is) and readers warned that novels could contain any of the 54 story genres, including fantasy .

3. Authors writing novels have to put every chapter in the novel genre and use the tags to define the contents of each chapter.

4. Normal LushStories rules of a maximum of 10,000 words per chapter.

5. Once the novel is finished, and providing the author has written more than (say) 50,000 words, they receive a novel badge. The author writes a second novel and a 2 goes by the side of it.

Could the above work and be a solution?

I know I'm getting into the realm of programming work for whoever upkeeps the site here (sorry). But I'm wondering if there can be some sort of "novel" template when they display on a page, such as the homepage. This would create a series-like collection but one specifically designed for chaptarized novels. (I also realize this could create a moderation burden as well since mods would probably want to make sure people aren't just including multi-part series that aren't really a novel into the novel category. I'm just throwing out ideas here).

I agree each chapter (whether it is a single or multiple chapter) adheres to the 10k word limit. That limit is there for a pretty good reason.

Perhaps in said novel template, there is an easy-to-view way to look at other chapters in that novel from the actual block, whether that is having a series-like dropdown that you normally see on each series story on the actual preview block or what. Something to let people know this is a novel that should probably be read from start to finish if you haven't already.

I'm in the process of writing a novel/novella myself (although not tagging it as such) and I'm already thinking I'll want to put something like "it is recommended to go back and read previous chapters first" in the author's note.

I thought the 100 word official comp from last year was a tight write! Jeez! lol

Now I get to read all the stories from people who actually know how to write stories (unlike myself) 🤣

I've started working on my sequel to my "Naked!" story (of which part 1 - https://www.lushstories.com/stories/teen/naked-birthday-chapters-1-3 - is out but all the other parts are essentially finished). I actually got inspiration for an event later in the story and went ahead and wrote it. Now I just have to write everything else.

I had a plan on how I wanted to divide chapters and now I'm wondering if I should ditch it and just focus on major events, regardless of how often they happen (the jist is they are on a road trip and are visiting new places every 2-3 days and I have a chapter for every spot. But some chapters are beefier than others cause some places just have more to write about than others)

I have a subfolder in my "Writing/In Progress" folder called "Under Review". If I actually finished everything that is in there, I would be the most productive I have been since I started writing. Sadly, some of them date back years, at least the ideas.

This is making me think of whether there is any "proper" forum area here for one to just kind of muse about the stories you are currently writing lol. None of the forum categories seem to fit. But sometimes I feel like airing out thoughts, even if no one is listening 🤣

completely scrubbed my story 5k words in. it wasn't working for me. started over. 1k and working much better. pray for me. lol

Good luck! It always sucks to write something and then just finally realize "nope!"

Quote by AmuseBouche

I promise I will read it, when I finish mine. I am so close now, I need a read enough, and I will use the text-to-speech robot - who cannot pronounce French words so I have to stop and laugh at some of them. It might take a while, and I think there will be a very horny robot somewhere afterwards. Somewhere, someone will have to deal with the mess.

OMG I'm glad I am not the only person who does a final pass with the text reader to audibly catch anything I missed by reading.

My thought is ditch it. I posted one of the part 1s of a new series under that category, and it didn't seem to do as well. That could 100% do with the story, but I do wonder how many people even pay attention to the "novels" category. I decided to post another series I had originally put under "novels" in a different category and decided to put the other parts of that one series under different categories as well.

The one argument for it, perhaps, is that it would allow someone to signify that this story is a single story being posted in multiple parts and not a serialized series of stories in the same series (as I feel that those are, in fact, two different things) but maybe there is a better way of signifying that. I'm not sure.

Quote by WannabeWordsmith

There's definitely an argument for streamlining the categories but there are also arguments for keeping many of them because people are often into specific variants of a subgenre.

There are cutoffs and diminishing returns either way. Too specific and very few write in them. Too broad and there's so much noise that people don't bother wading through it and go elsewhere.

As someone who sometimes has to deal with categorization in my job, this feels like a debate between higher-level categories and lower-level, more specific "tags" (and I realize Lush already has both). But maybe tags should be a bit more easily searchable or findable for specific sub-genres instead of trying to promote them to a full-fledged category.

(speaking of tags, I know trying to search for tags can be a pain because sometimes the list is so long it just stops listing options. Meanwhile, there are a lot of tags that are basically redundant because different people have created different tags for the same thing and I wonder well, should I use both tags? is one used more than the other? I don't know. I know that is opening a whole different can of worms, though lol)

I mean, I would be lying if I didn't pay attention to the numbers going up on my stories and enjoying it haha. But I suppose that isn't particularly the goal. I mostly like coming up with ideas and just writing them. I ended up coming here because I needed a place to post the first story I was working on at the time. Feedback is also always welcome, but not necessarily the goal.

I do enjoy the idea of the competitions, although I haven't participated in them as much as I'd like. I kind of come and go as my motivation to write swings. But I always hope to catch one when I'm around.

I also have to thank the editors for giving tips and reminders when I inevitably submit something that is wrong in some way LOL. I do feel like my writing has improved, especially during my latest flurry of story writing.

Naked Birthday: Chapters 1 - 3 | Lush Stories

1. What first inspired you to write this particular story?

I'll try not to get too specific lest I out myself if someone happens upon this. I got involved in an RP server related to a specific property, which had a small NSFW section. I found I actually enjoyed engaging in the NSFW roleplays there and decided to explore writing a separate story. My initial idea was a different, much larger story and then I decided to do a smaller, introductory prequel to help both establish the characters as well as get me into the groove of writing something like this before starting on something a bit bigger. This story is the reason I joined this site in the first place because I was trying to find a place where I could post it.

2. How did you come up with these characters?

I just got images of people in my head and started to flesh them out in a Google doc. What was their backstory? Their motivations? How could I explain the premise of the story in a way that I felt was believable? I never liked stories that just started in on the action without at least some plausible explanation for the character's behavior, so trying to figure that out was important.

3. How does it differ from some of your other stories?

The main difference is that I started it quite a while ago - two years or so now, I think? It was my first foray into an independent erotic work, and so it took me a lot of time to get the feel for it. I would lose motivation to write it for a while and then come back to it later. My other stories were just other things that came to mind over time. I suppose I decided to write and release them first because I always saw this story as my biggest, most important baby, although I feel like the other series I've started are probably on about equal stature with it in my mind at this point. Going through the final edits certainly showed me how far my writing had come between the first couple of drafts and today.

4. What was the most challenging thing about writing this piece?

Just getting started on it. Trying to write something that I felt was long enough to make it worth it. I would say it is different than a lot of the stories that get posted here in the sense that the "action" doesn't start until maybe 2/3 of the way through a story that will probably get posted here in four parts (so in part 3). That is partly a reflection of the fact that I started writing it before joining here, but also that the main character involved has a slow and gradual journey to her awakening at the end of the story. It's not meant to just be a serialized thing where the main character fucks someone new in every installment. I hope people appreciate the slow build in the end.

5. Anything else you want to tell us about it?

As I said, it is a single story in 12 shorter chapters—likely released three chapters at a time. But more than that, it is meant as a prelude to the story I actually wanted to write in the first place, which I haven't even started but I have been kicking around in my head for a long time. I even have an idea for a follow-up story after that, but it is far less fleshed out in my head.

Whew! I submitted my story. Probably broke Grammarly. It’s over 8K words. My characters ran all over me. I love parts of it. I hope it makes sense. I hope the gaping holes aren’t plot holes. I’ll be in Rumps Bar drinking and eating donuts…

Heh yeah. My latest revisions have increased mine to around 8.6k words, but that was mostly beefing up some scenes and not full rewrites. It's basically ready to go once my other story in the editing queue gets reviewed 🤣

Edit: literally one minute after I post this my in review story was approved 🤣🤣🤣

Edit 2: Now that mine is in for review, I can read the two other submitted stories, finally šŸ˜Ž

My guess is there are quite a few authors currently wrestling with their story entries for this competition. I do not expect to see any published entries until next week.

Well I'm hoping to get mine in over the weekend (barring my looking at it after setting it aside for a week and going "EWWWWW"), but unless they expedite review of contest submissions, it'll probably take a week for it to get reviewed and up 🤣
