Kiera,

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it didn't cost you too much to expose something this private. Be strong. Your love shines through.

secondly, thanks for this i read comic books and love comic book movies. i love fictional superheroes. they are, however, fictional. it's the people who fight battles with mental and/or physical issues and still go to work, support their family, help their kids with homework, mow the lawn, fix dinner, all the while being in pain that amaze me. people who reach out and use their pain to help someone else are heroes and they do it without even thinking about it. thank you, Regna, and all the other heroes in this thread.

i'm still figuring it out. i will. some days it's harder than others, but i am content to count the little victories and not dwell on aiming for bigger ones. oh, and staying away from mirrors. god, i look like hell right now. lol that's a hard one to get used to as well. smile

Dear Sprite,

Big hugs to you! You are capable, smart and powerful and will overcome these obstacles. I also am / was a fan of comics. Two of my favorites are from a while ago - The Dark Knight (Frank Miller) and Lone Wolf and Cub. If you remember, in the Dark Knight, Batman had to reinvent himself as he had aged and could no longer match the ferocity and strength of the younger villians. I would encourage you to focus on your mental strength, strong personality, and intellect. You will prevail.

I know what you mean about mirrors. I don't recognize myself anymore. The reflection is not who I am. Instead, of a strong confident walk, I shuffled along trying not to fall over. My goal is to get to a spot where I can hike with a friend. A small goal, but a goal nonetheless. Find your progress and don't focus on how you look now, but on where you want to be. Be strong my friend. We're here for you.

Buz, my wife will be right over. That is almost her favorite meal!
Harry Brown

Especially the scene with Harry (Michael Caine) and his wife in the hospital.
SweetSinner,

I am glad you are doing better. The weight of the world is too muchfor any one person. Keep the faith

i have had a harder time with the mental and emotional fallout, quite frankly, than i have had with the physical. thank god i am surrounded by supportive people.oBB6h8hqaGdhSTU9 those are for Larry, too.

Sprite,

You have my sympathies and full support. After cancer treatment, I struggled with my self image. I wasn't sure who I was anymore. All I knew is that I wasn't who I thought I was.

I encourage you to find something productive that you enjoy. Mine was cooking. I don't knowhow I can help you except being there if you ever need support or just want to vent. We're there for you.

GReenMan,

Keep the faith brother. Chemo sucks. My second course almost killed me. Luckily, my PET Scans have been clear, though every twinge raises the fear that it is just waiting until you have a low point.

I hope you can keep your mental and emotional states solid. The oncologists can help with the physical, but they generally lack at the softer but equally impotant sides of you.
Order the best sushi I can find. Have great sex while it is being prepared. Go out with a smile.

(Edit) When I was diagnosed with cancer, I wrote my obituary, made sure my partner had well organized records, and told everyone what they meant to me. Luckily, I didn't die, so I am reasonably prepared. Writing your obituary is funny, sad, and surrealistic. Life is to enjoy, not to lament the fate that awaits us all.
I may be strange. At home, I drink almost exclusively coffee. Really good drip coffee at home with whole milk. Double short latte if buying it outside the house.

When travelling, I drink almost exclusively green tea. I think it may be a reflection of not trusting the water when travelling as well as the fact that tea bags don't occupy much space and really no equipment to be hauled around. I will make my own or occasionally buy the pre-packaged varieties available in Japan / Asia.

As Ping said, Cooks Illustrated is a good magazine for this. It explains the "why" of technique and taste, texture, moisture, etc. of cooking relative to a recipe.

As for other resources, without knowing yourskill level and experience, it is difficult to be very specific. If you have fewer skils, the Betty Crocker Cookbook is a decent starting point. If you can cook already but want to expand your skills, The Professional Chef by the Cullinary Institute of America (~1200 pages) is very valuable. It isn't recipe oriented as much as ingredient and technique oriented. Mastering the Art of French Cooking is similarly useful though it is recipe oriented.

The Television show Good Eats with Alton Brown is also very useful for learning recipes, technique, and the "whys" of food preparation.

I can suggest many more things depending upon your interests and current skill level. However, baking is not my forte. Feel free to PM or expand your interest here.
Saw recently:

Arrival (very good)
Allied (I liked it and Marion Cotillard was excellent)

Like Milik, I'm thirsty too. If martinis are the drink of they day, please set me up.

I'm in. Though I have read all of them many times. (Obviously a guilty pleasure)
Up until 20 years ago, I wore a suit and tie every day. Now it is about 2-3 times per year.

I agree most don't tie or wear a tie well.
I care nothing about labels.

For my work clothes, I buy good quality clothes (often from an outlet) that will last a long time. I choose classic lines that flatter my body type. This will be wool pants, good socks and very cool shoes and well fitted / well made shirts. I have shoes that are over 20 years old. I get a long time out of my slacks. Take good care of good clothes and they will last a long time. But no logos!

For off-work clothes, i get given T-shirts all the time so I don't buy them often. I wear them 'till they die. Pants are either Levis 501s of cargo shorts. That is the nature of a beach bum.
We (my partner and I) have explored the lighter side (blindfolds, handcuffs, sensation play, etc...) but have zero personal interest in D/s. No problem with anyone who does in a consensual fashion.

My way may not be your way.
