Hey friends, there's a flash piece that I just read, that I absolutely loved. It received an RR and it is so deserving of that award, I urge you to check it out.

How are we all? It is officially SUMMER here in Kiwiland, yay. My favourite time of the year. I'll take a Cuba Libre, thanks barkeep.

Good story! I made the first comment on it, earlier today!

Gin rocks for Layla, bourbon rocks for me.

It seems I have been putting most of my "creative" energy into 'sacre bleu' with a few items that have been received quite well the past month or two, at least for that site. I've done some caluculating and I've averaged just over 600 views per story there (over six years). I've always felt that is doing rather well for a site such as it is. One of the nice things about that site is that one may have a story stay on the home page for days, even weeks. At this time I have a poem there posted on the 9th of November that is still on the front page. it does give a story time to be seen by the casual visitor dropping by.

Oh, I called it "creative" in quotes earlier because I'm aware that my work is rather entertaining but not anything like literary. But it is truly a pleasure to write it. Honestly, I've never felt as if I had writer's block. That is too interesting a word for what I may occasionaly have. At times I simply don't write. In time I start it again.

For instance, I've not even started the comp entry for here. But I've no doubt whatever that I'll enter the contest sometime during December. It'll get done.

I'd love a hot cuppa java about now, please. Oh, and Bill, I've not noticed the feature you mentioned earlier, in over six years here.

"Creative" means creative, meaning you created it, whether it's considered literary or not. I think literary fiction is just another genre, like crime or erotica or horror.

Yeah, I like the slow pace of the aqua site, and particularly the front page, which moves slowly enough so you can track it. I get about 200 views a story there. 600 rocks, Larry.

While I was there I noticed my Bio actually had a reference to the red site. Gasp! I really do understand the need for a bit of a firewall between the two sides, despite my occasional snigger at trying to ban the actual words red and blue. Anyway, the reference is removed. Hope I didn't corrupt anyone.

I sometimes stop watching it but then as soon as I do watch it again, I can’t stop watching lol ?... I hadn’t watched in months and then Miss SweetasCandy couldn’t stop talking about it for a few days and here I am again addicted... AGAIN ??

I know. That SweetasCandy chick is a HORRIBLE influence. smile
I am already tired of Christmas carols. And it's not even December!

Sorry Rump, I've not noticed that pop up feature. I'll look for it.

Ugh.

Anyone experience this?

I've got three full stories outlined and written in my head, but I just can't bring all of my thoughts to the big screen. I note my ideas on my phone or computer, but every time I try to write, my mind wanders elsewhere and I step away. I can't focus. I can't write. I'm just tired, frustrated and feeling blocked. In the past, I've forced myself to write something - usually a flash here or something on SS - and that seemed to move things along. I'm trying my best not to use any blockage metaphors, but damn, my brain is constipated.

I just posted a flash here that was actually inspired by our little micro-flash competition in August. I had posted here back then, a 100-word bar-related blurb, illustrating what could be done. I never submitted that one for the competition, but used that idea, and some of those words, for the flash. I called it, Fucked, just like my writing is right now.

I'm debating between coffee, tea, alcohol, or my bed. Bed wins.

Have a great Friday everyone!

I assume that writer's block is just my natural state, so I don't get overly frustrated. It's never easy. My minimum word count for a day's writing is 300 words. I just type crap out, a sentence at a time, and watch the little counter at the bottom. It's painful, you just gotta squeeze them out. Yes, like pooping. See my gift for simile?

Writing dialogue sometimes helps me.

That said, I've written almost nothing this week. Editing the Shards and getting them ready is taking up all my writing time.

Bill, I've never seen that pop-up before. Though, apropos of nothing, I did suddenly realize one of the reasons you are so good at proof-reading - you use a screen reader! I may try that.

Curvy, none of that "vaguely helpful" bullshit here. You are among the best beta readers on the site!

Thanks for getting Bertha hot and ready, Curves. Bertha appreciates it too. smile I'll have some köffee please.

I still haven't seen Nev's original one! Ha. He is super handsome. I might have to contact them to see if I can spend a few days with him in a hotel

Even I think Nev is handsome. My daughter loves him.

I just watched Mr. Mercedes Season 2. I have to say that this was a huge letdown after the amazing first season.

They should have ended it after the one season.

It started out SO GOOD! First season rocked, I even loved the first 2/3rds of the second season. But the ending was a huge dissapointment. It was like they just gave up.

Anyone else enjoy a little reality television show called Catfish??

I watched a bunch of them with my daughter until we burned oout on them. They're good, and the hosts are generally caring, but they all have the same EXACT plot, and there are only like four possible outcomes (one of them lied, the other one lied, they both lied, neither of them lied).

While this is my preferred usage, fairly widespread, and even set down as a grammar rule with some publishers, it is not universal.

It's even seen as incorrect by a not insignificant number of readers to use the "archaic" version of "come" instead of the modern "cum", for both noun and verb.

I've heard it argued that in time, cum will become the standardized verb, in order to distinguish it from the common, non-sexual usage. That comes from people who use "come" as the verb, and prefer it that way, but see the transformation as almost inevitable. Their argument and examples make sense.

I'm fairly certain Lush doesn't discriminate against "cum" used as a verb or "come" used as a noun, either. This reads almost like a rules post, rather than a preference, so I thought I'd say something.

Yep. What RR said. The OP seemed to imply this was a rule, and I doubt "The Elements of Style" ever discussed the correct usage of "cum."

So yeah, I think "cum" is cool as either a noun or verb. I personally find it much more sexually charged, and it helps differentiate betwen the two meanings. It's a personal choice, not a rule.

I remember having a conversation with Ravenstar (I miss her!) where she reluctantly said "cum" was acceptable, but drew the line at "cummed." smile

Best bar in town.

I've been all over the world, and I love the eclectic mix we have in here.

Name a place, and I bet either I've been there or someone in Rumps can tell you a story about it.

Fire away!

Hello all. Back at home, after a day in the People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado. Trainning went really well. They want me back. I'm happy to go, gets me oout of the house, and I enjoy teaching.

That burnt marshmallow hot chocolate thing floating around in the posts above me looks tasty, but I think I will have a köffee.

As for Nic saying this is the best bar in town, I'll put a quarter in the juke and let the song speak for me.

I'll have a decaf (it's late here) and I invite Grace to have whatever she likes.

Verbal I miss you sweet friend

I miss you too, friend. I hope you are well. I haven't seen you around lately!
She has been a friend of mine here for a very long time now. smile

The Green Man is a common motif in churches, cathedrals and, indeed, pubs (as in Kingsley Amis' novel), across Europe. I took it and used it for my avatar. Not at the moment. Just the name.

Cheers, all.

It's a pagen fertility thing too, right? I think the first time I saw your avatar it had kind of a pagen vibe to it. Cool that it's on churches, what with the motif of rebirth and all.

It's also the name of a chain of marijuana shops here in Colorado. smile

Thanks for all the props on the latest story from all the barflies here at Rumps. Bill, thanks for catching the typos. Layla even read it this time, though didn't officially proof it. I swear my proofreading gets worse with every year.

Driving to Boulder today to teach a class tomorrow. So if you are taking a class in Boulder tomorrow, I guess you've figured out my secret identity.

Köffee please.

EDIT: Bill (and everyone else), typos have been fixed on the new story, and it is back up (heh).

Good Morning All!

Bill, just a coffee to go please. Double-double.

Question: Of multi-chapter stories that you have written, has anyone noticed subsequent chapters getting more views than preceding ones?

It's usually the reverse, where as a story continues, the views drop off. However, with my How Far Do We Go? series, I've noticed that two times of the nine chapters, the views on the subsequent chapters has exceeded those of the preceding one. Interesting. I wonder why. It's not by a lot, but more nonetheless.

Have a groovy day, Y'all!

I don't have the number of views anymore because they aren't on here any longer, but I know the number of votes on the Shards kept dropping, the longer they went on. There was a core readership of about 15-ish people, so it plateaued there after awhile.

I imagine a good title, like Luca said, might draw in a few more readers. With your series, they are co-writen with others, right? The amount of views might be dependant on the size of the readership of your co-author.

Iced tea please. Too late for coffee, but I need caffeine.
Sandy Koufax was born in 1935. Played 12 seasons both both versions of the Dodgers, the Brooklyn ones and the LA one. As long as we're talking about Sandy's.

I could handle some mushroom tea.

Got a new flash up. Firecracker Red. Really, really wanted to name it Tomato Red, but Daniel Woodrell has already snapped up thst title, in a book I loved. So Firecracker Red it is. https://www.lushstories.com/stories/flash-erotica/firecracker-red.aspx

Hey, Curves, Grace, Luca, Sara, Larry, Bill, Tonya. This place is getting crowded! Finding it hard to get going this morning, after 5 days off. Köffêè please.

Nards rhymes with cards. just sayin'

Nice guess. But no. It's about a St. Bernard in a leotard who works in a shipyard as a guard.

Kôffēė please.

A humble suggestion, which I hope won't be repetitive, but how about raising the word count on flash fiction stories to 1500?

Call me old school, but I like the 1000 word limit. It's like a puzzle, trying to fit it all in under the wire. You can go over the limit if you have to, you just can't call it a flash anymore.

Plus, it's like hard-wired into my head at this point that flash=1000 words. I'm an old dog, are you expecting me to learn new tricks?
Lazy day today. About to eat more leftovers and have a strawberry chiffon pie (freshly made by my eldest daughter) for dessert.

Finished an erotic flash today. Yay! I like flipping back and forth between erotica and horror - keeps me from getting bored and my writing from getting stale (I hope). This one is about butt plugs and marraige. It is not unlike a certain set of stories that rhymes with "cards."

Hey Sara, hey, Momento. Curvy the Unquenchable has probably long since gone, so I'll just thank her for getting Bertha going.

I'll have a generously spiked eggnog please.

Some good advice above.

You used to be able to "price match", but I am guessing they've probably removed that option now, as it means they make nothing (someone will be able to confirm, I'm sure) when someone sets it at $0.00 match elsewhere.

I'd use all free sites like this, to create a following (make sure you are all over places like Twitter, like a rash), and then publish exclusives on Amazon which hopefully your following, will want to snap up.

It's a hugely competitive environment on Amazon (50 Shades and nanny state policing trashed it). We more or less stopped publishing there 3 or 4 years ago, as it simply wasn't worth the effort.

But with a huge amount of self-promotion, and an unerring ability to spin a yarn, there's still plenty of money to be made there from what my sources tell me.

Good luck, and welcome to the site!

I got a notice/warning saying my work was found elsewhere on the web for free, but all I had to do was declare the content was written by me. Way less complicated than I figured. I still have stories on sites I never submiitted to, but I am not gonna go to the bother of trying to take it down.

As to whether there is money to be had, I am guessing it's pretty slim pickings, but I will find out in about 3 months.
