"How was your day, hon?"

"Let me get that for you"

"You're right....I fucked up"

"I'll walk her, you look tired"
My first experience with breast cancer was with my Mother. She found a lump and had a breast removed in her late sixties. She was a tough old broad and adjusted well to it, from what I observed. My second was with my wife; she got it five years ago and they determined that it had been found early on in its development. She chose a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Two years after that she found a very small lump in her remaining tissue and the surgeon who did her first surgery biopsied it and found that it was genetically identical to her first cancer. This time they removed the lump and recommended that she go with a regime of chemotherapy followed by radiation. After her first chemo treatment she got Sepsis, which is a serious infection that quickly and viciously attacks the organs of the body. Not many people have even heard of it, but later I learned that according to some estimates upwards of 25% of people who die in the hospital die from contracting Sepsis. My wife lasted two months in the hospital before dying from pneumonia; she wasn't strong enough at that point to fight it off. There are various movements from time to time to have hospitals disclose their Sepsis rates, which hospitals fight tooth and nail, usually successfully. I think this thread is wonderful in that people are sharing INFORMATION, which is a powerful weapon to possess. Breast cancer is a terrible disease, and it is true that early detection is a key to combating it.

Happy Birthday Steph.....you might not remember it, but you gave me encouragement on my writing a while back. That actually made me think I could string a few words together.....thanks for that.
