I look forward to the competitions; took me a long while here to even think I could write anything good enough because there are some really talented and skillful writers here and I just recently got enough confidence to even consider entering, but I enjoy trying to tailor a story or a poem to the strictures of a competition now. And I think I am finding my voice, whatever the hell that means. A few other people whose opinions I respect tell me that they think I have a modicum of talent, and its fun to try to prove them right. Anyway....I look forward to the next one.
So many entries in this one...the judges chose wisely, I think. Congrats to the winners and to those who got honorable mention! Some really good stuff!
oh, geez...quite a few through the years. I'll list a few standouts; Billy Joel, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jethro Tull (multiple times), the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Harry Conick Jr., Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine (multiple times), John Hiatt, John Mellencamp, The Band, Dylan (multiple times), Poco, Bob Seger, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Eddie Harris, Maynard Ferguson, Sheryl Crow, Santana, the Association, Blood, Sweat and Tears, the Turtles, the Young Rascals, Melody Gardot, Los Amigos Invisibles, Al Green, Rod Stewart, B.B. King, Aloe Blac, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Yes (multiple times), Beats Antique, the New Pornographers, Black Keys, Mitch Ryder, Mountain, the Screaming Gypsy Bandits, Brandi Carlile, Mark Knopfler, MOE, Leonard Cohen, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Paul Simon, Green Day, and a lot of blues and jazz guys. Never saw the Stones or Springsteen or JJ Cale...those are my regrets.
I got 45535. I missed one about a goddamn shellfish I never heard of....lol.
He provided us a character that was fascinating to watch through the years. Good work, Mr. Nimoy.
At work I am. Been doing it for a long time, through a lot of different corporate managements and structures. Outside of work, I'm a hell of a lot better than I was a year ago. I used to be terribly shy around women; somewhere along the way that trait dissolved. Philosophically, I care less and less about always trying to please the crowd. I've always been a smartass, even in third grade when I hit on a nun.
Oh, I met a lot of the jazz greats during my days as a bartender in Bloomington, Indiana...if talking to them before and after they played constitutes 'meeting' them; Charles Mingus, Roland Kirk, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Harris, Maynard Ferguson, and some others. Also John Mellencamp and John Hiatt were local boys then who went on to do good nationally. I liked John Hiatt the better....great sense of humor and very low key. Even then he was writing some good songs. I shook hands with Bobby Kennedy on a campaign stop he made in 1968, but that's hardly 'meeting" him.
The ones that somehow find their way into my mouth are my favorites

fuckhose frantically fulfilling female fantasy.....

oops, I'll probably get yelled at for that one, but fuck it.....
