Thank you for the analogy. I think that unless someone has been through it, they will never fully understand how completely devastating can be. The act in itself is despicable, and then to have to go through a thorough medical examination where evidence is collected and questioning by police. The victim is forced to relive the experience multiple times, they are blamed for being victimized, they are sometimes shunned by the very people they count on for support. If it makes it to court, the victim is again forced to relive the crime, this time for an audience.
In the mean time, if the victim runs into the perpetrator by chance, on the street, in the grocery store, or at school or work, etc, they may feel terrified--even if the perpetrator doesn't see them. is a crime that affects the victim on many levels. The physical self will usually heal, unless the victim has contracted some disease from their attacker, mental and emotional well being of the victim sometimes never recovers.
As I thought about this analogy between having your Rolex stolen and being , I did find one very important thing that differs....You can always buy a new Rolex.
I do commend you for tackling this very touchy subject. I wanted to point out that I used the word victim instead of woman because men can and are as well as women, as are children. It is an act of violence, it is about power and control, and hatred. It is devastating to its victim, no matter who they are or what walk of life they come from.
