Ditto.

Am I the only one who can read Base64 encoded strings? All right you, I'll convert back UTF-8.

Ugh, as much as I love the new feature, it's rendered my newsfeed useless sad

Please can we hide liked comments on it?

(Possibly, it was just yours that were showing this time, no offense intended) smile

I've added a new section to your activity settings page that should help you filter out these events from your profile.

Let me know if you see any problems with it.

btw this will only stop new ones, not ones that have been posted already.

I LOVE the "LIKE" option on comments, and THIS may be totally unrelated BUT...

I find I can't PARA my comments on stories, that is, if I go to 'ENTER' to PARA, my unfinished comment goes to post... (Which isn't what I need...)

Everyone here KNOWS I love Gavin like a brother... I love him so dearly...

(But it's obvious he fucked this up and so I think we should fire him and get someone good...)

xx Steph

For us grammatically challenged people, we do not require paragraphs and formatting. However, I do see a need to satisfy those such as yourself. Therefore holding down the shift key and enter shall give you a new line.

Keep it real brother Steph.
Quote by Mazza
You could try doing a SHIFT+return

Let me try and see if it works...

EDIT: no, it does not...

For shits'n'giggles, can you try that again for me smile

Clever you! It now says '0'.

Close your eyes, tap your heels together.....poof.....you have your badge.

Ive just noticed a '-5' entry in the stories field within the new Statistics information and the member is not an author. I dont think I should post the members account name but can email that if someone wants to look into this.

Gimme gimme the buggy badge lol!

Can you check this mystery profile page again pls. If you report back with good news, you shall have yoiur badge smile

Could there be a way to turn off the music that some people have on their profiles? It is sometimes inconvenient or inappropriate for that to be heard when on the site.

In Chrome when audio is playing, you will see a speaker icon appear on the tab. Clicking this will mute all sound on that tab.

After the stats section was made hideable so quickly, I thought of one more silly little thing I'd like to see. I'm not sure how easy it would be to do from a programming standpoint, but I would love to be able to exclude certain members from a blanket message. This would be useful in a number of scenarios, I think, and I've heard the same from others. Thanks for looking into it!

So you want to send a PM to all friends, excluding a few (annoying ones) ?
Quote by Possibly

Well stated. I'm not trying to be "Sad Sally the Stat Police" either, but I must agree. I now feel like a piece of meat, numbers, statistics...

This was really a rushed feature added just so that a member could see the number of consecutive days they had been in the chat rooms. Should have thought it through a bit more.

I've added a setting to hide (from all except the owner) these new statistics from your profile page now.

I so agree with this!

I've increased this to 100. No one should ever need more than that, right
This should be fixed now. If there are any more issues please continue to post in this thread, I will monitor.
I think I solved the issue of the reluctant ghosts. Any better now when you login?

It sounds like a cache invalidation issue to me. When you were logged on, you have set yourself category restrictions. With these enabled you see the raw view direct from the database (as we cant cache different permutations for each user). However when you’re not logged on there are no restrictions so you get served up a cached result. This cached view is invalidated under certain conditions, such as a story being verified.

The site could not survive on a single web server servicing thousands of requests per second without some form of cache.
I’ll investigate further later on.

The two hardest things in computer programming, cache invalidation and naming things
It has been deemed fairer if the top authors, stories and poems were taken over a rolling 31 days rather than a calendar month. It is quite easy to gain these lists during the first few days of the month.

Hope this helps

The ability to mute individuals on Friends Activity - those addicted to posting on every word game forum mainly

This is one of the side effects of a soft block of a friend. I had someone else ask me something similar, I think they were scared off the block as it sounded a little harsh. Maybe it needs a new name and better implementation?

Mute
Hide
Ghost

Essentially, they cannot see you online and their activity is blocked from your feed. I'm thinking to these muted friends would also lose their poking powers.

Can we change the order of the listing that pops up when you click on a tag go from newest to oldest instead of the way it is now. I was looking for a recent story that had a certain tag and something from 2009 popped first. Please?

Totally agree, I'll change it.

I can edit Mignonette now which was the one that wasn't quite at 12 months after posting but Kingdom Come and Let Her Eat Cake still go straight to the page with the red box telling me I have to wait 12 months to edit them. The latter two are the ones older than 12 months if that info helps.

What about now
Quote by Magical_felix

No I haven't edited them. I figure Gav will see this eventually and look into it.

Any better?

I like that you can add a picture or a "cover" image to stories now and I usually throw together something with the title on it for my gallery but I have refrained from loading them into the stories because there is that semi-transparent black box with the white text that states the title and author of the story over your image. I have always thought that that transparent box is redundant (and ugly) because You can already see the title and author you don't need another box saying so over your image. A cover image should look like an actual cover and the ones I put together for my stories do actually look like a book cover so the transparent box over them would make it look stupid so I just don't add images. What I am proposing is that there be an option to display that black box or not. I understand it's good for people that don't know how to add their own type to a picture but to the other people that can, that box is just annoying.

MF, this should be in now. Let me know if you have issues wit it.
The site will be going down at 1:00am PST (about 45 mins time) for maintenance. It shouldn’t be down for more than 30-60 mins.

This feature is now up.

Let me know if you have any feedback or want anything changed (especially if you spot any of my spooling mistakes).
Let's keep it simple. The submitter of the story gets credits for views, comments any derived badges and competition prizes. The submitter can add one or more contributors to their story, these are simply links to their respective profile pages. They are free to add or remove contributing authors at anytime without moderation. The co-writer will receive an automatic PM when they are added to a story.

Later on we can add a section to profiles showing which other stories they have co-written.

I dont see any value for the reader to have a separate category for co-written stories, sorry MR!
We have received reports of this member below asking for money from members on this site. He has already been sent some money from a female member, luckily we were alerted before anymore could be given.

PLEASE do not give money to ANYONE on the internet, they are never who they claim to be. This person was in fact from Nigeria not Seattle as they claimed.

A big thank you to our moderating staff, past and present. This site wouldn’t exist in its current form without you.

I may not have read all of the 30,000 but my code has validated, parsed and formatted every single one.

Go team

I think I solved the riddle of the mixed up times. If you can save your settings page (the one with the timezone selection) and then check a post in the forum, you *should* see things back to normality.

Check your timezone settings here

So this post shows for me as being posted @ Monday, February 17, 2014 5:17:46 AM
Some of the re-categorized stories are not appearing in the new category pages straightway. The cache for these lists are only usually flushed when a new story is verified.

Be patient, they will appear (eventually!).

I'll wait for Gav or one of his minions to come back smile

I've given the rest of the year off to my minions, so this is left to me to answer.

I did spot an error with the word counts, so I fixed this one. I've also added the number of words the system *thinks* is in your story, so we can verify this with other sources.

Counting words, why is it so hard?
Well, the words on the page isnt exactly what the server sees. By the time the browser has added in its own formatting tags (different on each browser, paragraph, bold, etc) I get this horrible tag soup to work with. Now I have to clean the text of html, then count the number of white space groups. Theory is a word is always separated by white space (space, tab, crlf) apart from the last one in the document.
For those of you who want to revert back to the original view, simply uncheck this option on your settings page:

My Stories List [ ] Show my stories broken down by category
