Hi

You cant search for an author by entering their name in the search box above, that is just for stories. If you know the authors name then you can just use that in the url, i.e. lushstories.com/sprite

If you are searching for an author you do not know their full name, you can either use the authors list or use the member search where they have the authors badge.

Hope this helps.

Our router doesnt take cards, its quite fussy!

I dont quite understand what happened, people were kicked out of the room by a mod, and they could re-enter?
I did consider that, but I ran it through the Alan filter. It would then require a setting to disable this, or hide it at least.

The list is made up of friends with birthdays in the next 2 weeks (14 days).

Coming soon, send a virtual gift for your friends birhday!
Sorted, thanks for pointing this out.

I noticed on Sprites profile, it was taking ~40 seconds to load, is this normal, or this is just Sprite? She does have a lot of friends, this might explain things.

Gav, 2 things about the birthday list.
1. The names no longer post in alphabetical order as they did before.
2. Today was my birthday and I had changed my profile a few days ago to include the date. Yet my name was not on the list today, nor was it there yesterday (checked just in case). I have since removed the date from my profile as I prefer not to have ANY age display on my page. (BTW, I had previously suggested that you be able to enter just a month and day, OR allow a member to select that the age NOT display on the profile.)

I shall fix up the ordering soon. I have added a Hide Your Age on your setting pge, hope this helps.

One other thing
First, I'd like to say I like the new feature in the photo gallery with hidden photos under a separate tab. However, with the photos now split into multiple pages, I find myself searching all the pages for a photo to post on someone's page. Since I can not reorder the photos to another page, this is a problem. Can an option be added to sort all photos alphabettically or numerically?

Quick win, I have order the hidden images by file name.
I've just lowered the requirement for this badge to a more reasonable 50,000. I think you'll find as the site gets more popular, these famous story badges will become more widespread.

@Sprite If you're in the market for some contraband story views, meet me in the pub. I have a friend of a friend who's trying to off load some.

it's not biggie... but am i the only one that doesn't like the new way the ACTIVE VISITORS page is arranged? with the multiple pages and the not quite but sorta alphabetical order..?..

The problem is Mongo has case sensitive sorts, so gav and GAVI are at different ends of the set. Do we care on the sort order, as long as its consistent? I can order it by id, or date logged on instead?
Lol, whats the chances of that!

To all my American friends, its 11/11/11 not 11/11/11 ok!
You two are very astute!

When I was activating the badge generation for V2, I revised some of the requirements. With the sites increasing popularity, getting 30k views is really quite easy. I increaed this to 100k. This wont effect people who currently have the badge.

When I add a new video to the video gallery it now adds it to the END of my videos. Unlike my new friends who I want at the end of my list, I would like the new videos I post to go to the front of the list with the newest video in that "featured" area of my profile page like it used to be.

Hi CG, this *should* be fixed now. Just need to sort the same thing out too for images uploaded!
Mr Cat, I think I've solved your photo album issue. Care to try it out again for me, thanks.

Can you give me some specific examples where you have images giving you a 404 from an album please.

I created the album fine. Uploaded the pic fine. Opened the album on my profile fine. Clicked on the pic i whished to see and got the message.

Dont get the problem if upload pic on my gallery.

Did you delete your album, I dont see it on your profile page.

Yes. I could get it to work so i deleted. Should i create a new one for you to test?

Yes please, if you could replicate what you did before.
You can now restrict what information is distributed into your friends feeds from your interaction with the site. Please visit your Activity Feed page to configure this.

If you have any comments (except for Alan), please post away.

Every time i send indecent proposals to Gav, i get a message back that says "Knock it off, I'm married!" obviously that's some sort of bug!

This is my contact, sorry Sprite I'm sure you're a lovely girl n all. In order to receive full WAF (wife acceptance factor) this is required in all my programming projects.

@Fugly Your image comments should now remain intact moving between the albums and gallery.

We now have birthdays back in the forum, yay.
That's the way it used to work. There always was a high chance the story it picks would be a story, not everyones cup of tea. So, we respect what category you are currently in when picking a random story.

I guess now we can block categories, this might not be such an issue.
The Random Story button should be working again.
btw, if you already have a custom ordered list, you will need to make a change (of order) to one of your friends to activate this change.
Maybe Scooter is our MySpace Tom?

There's no limit imposed from the code. However, think things might slow down a fair bit with many thousands.
Ha! Reminds me of a line from that great british comedy, the thin blue line:

"Your cock-up? My arse"

Ok the friends list changes are up, happy friending.
Thanks for all your responses. To summarise:

Default behaviour:

On your profile page, your friends will be listed in date created order, the oldest appearing first. As new friends are added, these will be appended to the bottom of this list.

Your friends online page will be listed in alphabetical order, with a secondary sort on online status.

Custom behaviour:

If you choose a custom order for your friends, by dragging one or more into position, this order is respected on your profile and friends online pages. As new friends are added, they are appended to the end of this list.

At anytime you can "reset" the order back to the default behaviour.

Now to code it.....
Before I fix the issue with the ordering of your friends list, I thought I would just clarify *exactly* what's required here.

So your friends list natural order is date created, as new friends are added they *should* appear at the top of your friends list (on your profile page). Your personal friends list page, that you view to see who's online (from the top toolbar) is always listed in alphabetical, then online order.

When you re-order your friends from your settings page, this effects the order of your friends list on your profile page *only*. With this custom ordering, would you expect new friends that are added to appear at the top of the list, or the bottom (on your profile page)?

I believe you that the votes cannot be retrieved and restored but the votes had to include scores (each vote only registers at 1 to 5) because the loss off votes changed the scores in some cases quite a lot.

Nothing can be done but it is still a very bad bummer!

That I can't answer. Maybe Gav can shed some light as to how it worked out the average with no scores in the database, lol. I'm voting for magic.

Bummer indeed.

MOW, you have a in-depth understanding of the code, fancy a job?

So Lush V1 recorded the scores real-time, simple accumulating a tally of 1 - 5. The recording of anonymous votes was simply a way to block the same surfer from scoring a story multiple times. This worked fine in the relational database world.

In Lush V2, we now have a document storage model (not an RDBMS). The member and anonymous votes are stored in a document along with all the other attributes of a story (think of a spreadsheet containing all the fields to a story). When a new score is recorded, it would be too costly to pull back the entire document, add one vote then save this back to the database. So, instead, I simply send the score to the database to append the score to the existing document. I then flag this story as stale (the score needs recalculating). So the next time the story is retrieved from the database, it will recalculate the score before presenting the story to the user.

I'm sorry about this, there is no way for me to recreate these anonymous scores from V1. Would people prefer to leave this as-is, or for me to generate a random score, 1-5 for these missing votes?

I've just been told my blog posts have been showing up as unreadable code...I've seen this mentioned before, but was not aware it was a widespread issue...

Just adding to the big "To-Do" list...I'll try not to let it happen again...

Dont worry Alan, they still make perfect sense to me

Makes sense, not happy as I didn't have big amounts of votes to begin with LOL, but I understand - just!

Does this mean that the no comments on all votes is now in place? I ask only because of the above and because I have noticed new stories lately with scores or 2 or 3 without the "Scored with a 2 because...." comment

Also noticed that when I filled out my location, it doesn't show up in the forums.

I understand, I'm sorry. Without allocating a random score for all the anon votes, I was stuck. Really dont know why the old system never recorded the score

A comment is no longer required for a 2-3 vote (as per a thread a while back). You sill need to be a member though.

I'll get a fix for the location.

Thanks for your patience Miss F.

Sir Gav - please, please stop it posting notifications on our activity lists every time a friend comments on other Lushies pics and profiles. I don't want another of my secret addictions out the bag do I !!

There will be an option to disable this, hopefully end or begining of next week, thanks!

Like Jerseylynn and Mistress of Words the number of scores on my stories have all changed.

I think they were right when the site first converted but then changed at some point after that.

I only just noticed I lost 20 votes on my bagoween story. The rest are the same as before

UPDATE: Not even 8 hours later after I posted this, I lost another 15 votes on my first story sad

There is a reason for this. The old version of Lush recorded anonymous votes by recording a timestamp and an ip address, but not the actual score. When a score becomes stale (after a new vote), then the system needs to rebuild the story statistics. Unfortunatly the anon votes from v1 wont be counted as they have a zero score.

Make sense

I am not able to delete comments from my profile. When opening "Older Comments" and attempting to delete from there, I get a general error message.

Deletion of older blog entries should be working again now.
