Upon the request of authors, we have changed the way copyright notices are included with stories / poems.

Originally, we had copyright notices as links at the end of stories. However, content thieves and their automatic story stealing evil software (a.s.s.e.s), were simply omitting them. Others didn't see / were not clicking the links, and claim ignorance after being found guilty of plagiarism.

For these reasons, some authors here added their own copyright notices to the story body itself. That alone is fine. Where the trouble arises, is if they submit a story, adding a notice, PLUS checking the box on the submit page:

"Include a link to your copyright information, added on your membership profile?"

(which should actually now be changed to something like, "Include your copyright information (added via your membership profile settings)?" - the word "link" is now defunct)

I understand this may be a minor nuisance, particularly to people who have many stories up, but there are a few ways round it being a huge pain.

If you've "doubled up" and added a copyright notice to all your submissions, and checked the box to include a copyright notice, then you can simply erase what's in your settings here: https://www.lushstories.com/membership/update-details.aspx?s=copyright That should work.

If you have entered copyright notices on some stories, and not others, then I'm afraid you will need to edit each one individually. There's no other way.

I apologise for the inconvenience.

Nicola
The judges and I were delighted by the creativity of our authors, and their entries into this competition.

All the finalists adhered to the theme well, and it was a challenge to see which ones would win out.

There always has to be a winner, and for the judging panel and myself, one stood out above the others.

Congratulations Ravenstar!

Winner ($150): Molten Core, by Ravenstar
Second place ($100): Saving Felicity, by Jayne33
Third place: ($50): Kinbaku: Fire and Ice, by Gilrenard

Honourable mentions go to the following entries:

Snowblind, by Lupus
Kibeho, by Wilful
Topless, by Jwren
Happy New Year 1976, by Billybroadband
Synthetic Hours, by TheScheherezadeFeint
Winning An Upgrade, by Flytoomuch
Coedwig Challenged, by Annamagique

A new competition will be up shortly.

Congratulations to the winners. I will be in touch over the next day or so, with details on collecting your prizes.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in this competition, and those involved in the judging.

Cheers,

Nicola

Actually, I'm finding it better today, but I've only been on for short spells so maybe just not getting it for that reason.

Gav: "I've changed some of the transaction isolation levels for the database."

Nicola: You did what now?

Translation: it should be fixed.

For now, Gav is monitoring where bottlenecks are occurring, and fixing issues accordingly.

Please let me know if you encounter further problems.
We "upgraded" to the commercial version of MS SQL (the database which powers the forum) a week or so ago. Initially, it was flying, worked beautifully. However, that was short lived.

Gav is looking into it.

Apologies all.

Just a quick question, over the last couple of days, I've noticed a couple of stories that are about step but which aren't in the category.

In previous posts here, I'm pretty sure it was stated that this subject was to be in the category. Is that not the case any more?

Please pm me (or use the contact form) the URL's. You are correct, all stories of that nature are meant to go into the section.

Guinea pig reporting in.

My Gold expired on the 15th. I gave it a couple of days to let any lag shake out, and I haven't seen the grandfathered Bronze show up yet.

It's probably something that needs looked into, because life happens, and people who currently have paid memberships may not be able to afford them in the future. Since they qualify for the grandfathered Bronze, they should get it like everyone who was free at the time of the switch to Freemium.

If it will help to stay as-is for testing new code, let me know. Otherwise, I'll be going back to Gold in a day or two.

Thanks RR. I sent an email to Gav this morning, about the very subject.

Please stay tuned, you should have dropped back to Bronze. Can you pm me in a few days if it hasn't happened, I know Gav is under the hood.
Oh dear, Facefudge have really started to shoot their own feet of late.

I use that site a few times per month at best. I can never figure out how most of it works. It seems counter-intuitive to me.

Why wouldn't you just use this site to keep in touch with members? I think once we get our own "Groups" feature working, it would be easier all round.

The delete option will work for your profile but sadly the offending pic will still be visible on your timeline. I think it has been mentioned here before but it would be lovely if deleting it off the profile deleted it from everywhere.

If you prod Gav directly with things like this, I'm sure he'd oblige.

If you need help with that just give me a shout.

Thank you lb. Gav is at the planning stages, working out our options.

Nicola,
Actually I thank you! This site has become more than entertainment. It is a community for me. Much more than just an erotic site.

Kind of you to say ChuckEPoo. That was exactly my intention when I set it up, a long long time ago

Could we have the facility to customise a message right next to the "Post comment" button on our profiles.

Just long enough for people who don't want things like hardcore porn or animated gifs to say so hopefully in a position where it will be noticed.

That's a really good idea. Many people prefer to keep their profile totally clean or softcore only.

How about instead of a customised message, we add 3 options in the profile settings for friends' comments: Safe For Work / Softcore / Hardcore. The relevant symbol would be shown to the right of the section title so friends know what they should and shouldn't post.

Does that work?

We could go the route of people classifying their entire profile as either Safe For Work / Softcore / Hardcore, but there may be a few problems. What if a friend posts something hardcore on your profile, ignoring the Safe For Work indicator? And who would want a pop up saying, "This profile has been deemed hardcore, continue? Yes / No"?

Sorry, thinking out loud, taking the idea further.
Hi everyone,

I would like to say a big thank you, to all our members who have taken out a Premium Membership.

We really didn't expect many until the first of the "trial memberships" expire in April, and when the changes take effect for the majority of our members in July.

The show of support has been very heartwarming.

This has allowed us to start upgrading the site.

The first upgrade happened yesterday. We have been struggling along on a free version of MS SQL server, for many years, and the forums were starting to run at a crawl. This has been resolved by upgrading the software to the commercial version. I hope you notice a marked improvement. The forums are pretty much instantaneous for me.

Next on the list, is a new database server or two, which will share the load of our core site database. How we do this is currently being looked into, as "you would normally have a minimum of 3 servers participating in sharding / replication". We will have to see what kind of deal our host can put on the table.

All of our servers are now on a host managed basis, so hopefully downtime will be significantly reduced.

More updates to follow as they happen.

Thank you!

Nicola
Authors submitting stories / poems (for the first time), from 1 Jan 2015 onwards, may be gifted a Bronze Membership, depending on the standard (a "ho hum" story or poem won't qualify) of their submission. All story verifiers have the ability to hand these out.

We decided to do this, because it hopefully encourages people to submit work which has been carefully crafted, and acts as a small reward for contributing to the site.

I hugged Nicola really tightly for pointing out my inability to properly count characters and also for just generally being totally amazing

140 dead on. I hope lol

You haven't finished the sentence with a full stop
The way it currently works, is if you upgrade, 12 months gets added to your existing membership, and your membership levels changes to the upgraded one.

For example, if you have a Bronze Membership which expires in August 2015, and you upgrade to Gold, then your membership level turns to Gold, and is valid until August 2016.

I've just copied all three back onto the Lush character counter and they're all 140. Did you add a character for me in the post that was one short?

I just want to get this right

Sorry my dear!

Thanks Liz!

Yes, you were a character short Katie.

2 more tweepered.

She sat at the table texting, a hand under the table, as he sat at the far end of the coffeeshop, texting her, a hand also under the table.

(I got tired of counting, but am pretty sure it's under 140).

Afraid not!

I've twatted all the above which didn't contain spelling mistakes, and are of the right length. Some are 1,2, 3 or more characters short / long.

The challenge is EXACTLY 140 characters.

Thanks for the information about the interviews Nicola.

Shouldn't it return a 404 page not found then, instead of telling me I'm not logged in?

You should probably have been returned a 401 (unauthorised), or a 403 (forbidden). Gav might need to look at the error pages. On asp.net, you may only have the option for one all encompassing one, I'll ask.

In a chat room someone just stated that they joined Jan 2nd, and was not told about the membership levels. Can I suggest that somewhere on the join page this is mentioned? Just trying to keep the drama down in the chat rooms, the moaning and groaning is crazy.

Just my

Thanks,

TxPrincess

PS....thanks for all the hard work on keeping this site up and running....i know it is difficult and comes at a cost (both in time and money)

We will be adding something to the welcome PM most likely, so people are aware of the various membership levels from the off.

New members have a 3 month free trial, so it shouldn't affect them. What are they moaning about?

I noticed a link on Stephanie's profile to the Lushstories interview with Stephanie. After reading it, I wondered if there were any others (yes - I know now that they're linked on the right-hand side of the page!) so tried to go to https://www.lushstories.com/interviews/ in the hope of finding an index page containing all the interviews. This took me to the "Oh dear, we're sorry! You must be a member, and logged in to view this page." page. I was logged in - so I think their must be some sort of bug.

P.s. Do the lush interviews still happen?

Hi MrMark,

We kicked the interviews off in 2009, when the site wasn't so active. They were almost naturally phased out by the addition of the fleshed out profiles you see today. Many of the questions are now included in profiles as part of the template, and people often fill out their bios with other interesting information.

The list down the RHS of the page you see here, in your example: https://www.lushstories.com/interviews/stephanie.aspx - those are all the interviews that were conducted.

If you'd like to be added to that list, please read this post, and follow the instructions from there: https://www.lushstories.com/forum/yaf_postst4340_Author-Interview-Questions.aspx

I actually really like the interviews. Perhaps we should have them included as part of the profile / settings template, and people can fill them out if they so desire?

There is no index page for the interviews, hence the error page.

Will your site accept pre paid credit cards like am, or visa.like gift cards? Also how long is the paid membership good for? A month, a year, forever? Didn't see that anywhere.

Paypal accept pre paid credit cards, but I believe you need to register with them first.

All memberships are for 12 months. We will make that clearer on the signup page.
tiddlywink - I've deleted your post twice now, I'd hoped you'd have got the hint the first time, that this thread is for questions relating to the new membership, not apologies for drunken postings.

There are no gift cards. Members can gift others a premium membership.

Your post that you have no bank accounts, credit cards, or such like - I've known only one adult in the last 30 years, who was in that situation. How old are you? How do you function in society without one?

Please reply via pm (if you want to), I don't wish to have this thread clogged up with personal discussions and comments. Thank you!
