You would be suprised how many gays and lesbians are oppposed to same sex marriage. They are the quiet, unheard minority, or could be majority since no one has taken a poll. For those in Australia the protection afforded by legislation relating to de facto relationships is enough. They do not see gay marriage as an equal rights issue or an equal treatment issue. They are just not hung up on the word 'marriage'. Some don't, usually, argue against it for others if others want it, whilst others do so argue. In this respect I suppose that makes us the same as everyone else, which is a form of equality. Will be interesting to see how they vote.

I have returned my vote as a NO. I dont have a hope of getting my opinion accepted unless we get a Brexit or US result. No comments please about the US result. You have got him and he will do one term at least.
My reason - I dont believe in marriage of any kind. Hetro of Homo sexual.Same sex or opposite sex.
I am living in a relationship with my girlfriend and we have given a commitment to love each other in front of our friends - no legal authority needed. We live in a FWB relationship 3x3.
The laws of Australia are no different for hetro couples to homosexual couples other than the hetro's spend thousands of dollars 'legally' dissolving the 'marriage' and get no more in a settlement than any other couple who live together for a year whether they ere 'married' or not.
Who wins in marriage - the Church and the party place they hold the reception, costing thousands of dollars. Believe me I work in the hospitality industry - a wedding reception is a rip-off. A wedding reception is twice the price of a 21st birthday or similar. Why because silly people are prepared to pay for it to please the mother of the bride and groom.
Am I cynical - you have got to believe it.

My mind is behaving badly. I am dealing with a few difficult things. Taking care of aging parents, one with dementia and some other things. But the thing that is crippling me is the disappearance of one of my cats. I have two and they are both indoor cats. One got out accidentally three weeks ago. We have searched and searched and made flyers and called every animal hospital, etc. The problem is when I would come home just about undone by other things Apollo would be there and he would always know when I needed him. To not know what happened to him and not have him by my side is unhinging me and I can't afford that now. Old ways of thinking and behaving are trying to reappear. I know things could be worse, but anyone who has ever loved a pet might understand. There is nothing that I or anyone else can do. I just needed to vent and here seemed like a good place at 3 am when I can't sleep of course. Apollo's brother keeps trying to find him in the house too and that makes me even sadder. Sigh.... Maybe he'll make it home one day or someone has him and they are taking care of him. It just makes everything else harder.
