This song was written by a man to be sung by a man yet Joan Baez does a wonderful rendition of the original by The Band. It's hard to choose whose voice I like better singing this, hers or Levon Helms.
Many artists have covered this original by John Henry Kurtz. Dobie Gray did an excellent and smooth rendition, but I just like the Stones style better.

This was recorded in November 1973 for their album "It's Only Rock and Roll" and not included in favor of Ain't Too Proud to Beg and never released.
Roy Orbison's original is superb ... as is Linda Ronstadt's cover.
