My mind-numbing day starts at 5:30 am.
After finding sleep at 1 am, the ringing alarm’s not a welcome sound, but I drag myself out of bed as my beautiful Sonia snores away.
But at least the lithium procurement proposal’s done and submitted. It’s just one of my seemingly endless jobs to move Symbiotic Logistics forward in the world.
A shower helps, but not much.
After, I don’t dare get dressed. Making breakfast and lunches for the whole family might yield a stain. I know from experience that the suit always goes on after the food’s on the table.
Getting the kids up, ready, and fed’s never easy, but somehow I manage through all their complaining.
By 8:30, I’m at work, already putting out stupid fires. Sometimes it seems like I’m the only competent person here.
By 11 am, I’ve already conducted a contentious meeting, met with my asshat boss, checked in with my dull team to make sure they’re on track, and fielded two escalated calls from high-profile diva-like clients with “issues.”
In the scant cracks of time to myself, I paid the back-due balance to the garbage collectors, transferred money from savings to checking to cover the tuition for the kids, scheduled a physical for our daughter, and reserved a car for my work trip next week to Silicon Valley.
My afternoon’s scheduled with back-to-back meetings, so this is the only sliver of time I’ll have to get any personal stuff done.
Fuck! What am I forgetting?
I check to make sure I have the list of stuff to get at the grocery store on the way home, and find it in my pocket. I’m planning to make another fabulous dinner that amazingly will please everyone’s diverse tastes. I’ll pick that stuff up after I nab Conner from soccer practice, Trent from band, and Emma from after-school art.
Oh yeah! I need to square away the orthodontist’s payments with our insurance! Some dipshit screwed it up. Again. For the fifth time.
Then I remember that I was fussing with my insurance card last night. Apparently it never made it back to my wallet. I’ll need the policy number to check this task off.
I pick up my phone and call my wife. I know Sonia’s home and can get the number for me.

It rings three times before she picks up and says, “Hiya baby! How’s your day going?”
“Okay, so far. Busy, but okay. I got Connor, Trent, and Emma to school on time. Working now, so… that’s not fun.”
“Oh, that’s my hard-working husband! He cooks, he cleans, and he brings home the bacon!”
“Thanks, honey. Oh crap! I just realized that in all the chaos this morning, I forgot my lunch. I guess I’ll just work through it and tough it out.”
“Aw baby, so sorry.”
“It’s okay. So, what are you up to today?"
“Still in bed, love. Still in bed.”
Geez! What a life. But I love her and promised her everything I could give, so it’s fine.
I tell her, “I have a few minutes now, and was hoping to square away Trent’s orthodontist mess.”
“Okay…you need me for that?”
“I think I accidentally left my insurance card on my desk in the office. Can you go down and read me the policy number?”
Sonia pauses for a moment before saying, “Um…Shaun’s inside me right now. Can I text it to you after my pussy pulls the cum outta his dick?”
In the background, I hear Shaun belt out, “Heya Jon! How’s it going? Sonia’s extra slick today! Man…this is good stuff!”
I hang my head and tell my wife, “Okay, honey. That’ll be fine. I’ll call the insurance later this afternoon. Have a good time, and tell Shaun I said hello.”
She moans, and I know he’s driving his dick into her. Then she says, through her haze of pleasure, “Will do, honey. See you tonight. But Paul’s coming over at 2:30, so I’ll probably be pretty wiped.”
“Okay, give Paul my best. Again, have a good time. Love you.”
Her only response is more intense moaning. In the background, I hear Shaun grunting and shouting profanities, and I know that I’m hearing the telltale sounds of his penis flooding my wife’s vagina.
It seems that Paul will make his deposit later this afternoon.
I hang up as the ding of a new, pressing email hits my ears.
Fucking idiots!
I begin to draft the response, but my mind’s wandering. So many other tasks to do this afternoon, and I can’t fall behind. And I forgot that I scheduled a meeting with a financial planner. I should reschedule that now, while I have the time.
Oh well…typical Wednesday.
