The invitation arrived sealed in black wax:
“One night. No names. The villa by the sea.”
Elana’s pulse raced as she stepped inside, candlelight flickering across silk sheets and the open balcony doors. Salt air mingled with jasmine.
He waited in the shadows, tall and naked. The dim light combined with the mask covering his face kept his identity a secret. His voice was low, warm, and strangely familiar. “I’ve been dreaming of you.”
No more words were needed. He drew her close with reverent hands, kissing her as if he already knew the map of her desires. His mouth moved slowly down her throat while he peeled away her dress. Strong arms lifted her onto the wide bed. He worshipped every inch of her with his tongue, tracing lazy circles over her nipples, then lower, parting her thighs with gentle insistence. Elana moaned as he tasted her deeply, two fingers curling inside her while his mouth drove her to the edge repeatedly.
When she begged, he rose above her. Their eyes locked as he sank into her, thick and perfect, filling her. They moved together in a slow, passionate rhythm. The skin against skin, breaths mingling, bodies rocking like the waves outside. He whispered praise against her lips, thrusting deeper each time until they shattered together in a shared, trembling climax.
Afterward, still joined, she reached up and removed his mask.
Her heart stopped.
It was her husband, Marcus, but not the distant, work-absorbed man she’d known for eighteen years. This version looked at her with raw, adoring hunger and glistening eyes. A small, tender smile curved his lips.
“I never stopped loving you,” he whispered. “I found the old letters I wrote you before we met and realized I’d become a stranger in our own home. I sent the invitation. I wanted to remind you, and myself, how it felt to truly crave someone.”
Tears slipped down Elana’s cheeks as she pulled him closer, kissing him again with fresh passion. The mystery had never been a stranger. It had always been the man she’d fallen in love with, finally finding his way back to her.
