I had read Emma O'Donahue's book and had been hugely moved by it... But, and perhaps because I often read FAR TOO QUICKLY...

The movie moved me almost beyond words. (At one point, I actually wanted to STOP watching I was SO UPSET...) And of course having read the book, I KNEW!!!

I can't recommend it to EVERYONE, since the subject matter has a darkness that even for me, (at least initially...) caused me SERIOUS EMOTIONAL UPSET. (FLOODS OF TEARS!!!) The REPAY, if you can keep watching, is a story of SUCH LOVE AND BEAUTY AND REDEMPTION that I'm GLAD I put myself through watching it!!!

It is one of the most soulful, human and BEAUTIFUL films I have EVER seen. (Writing, direction, ACTING, script and design are FLAWLESS!!!)

TODAY, I re-read the book... (I say honestly, I'm NOT SURE I'll ever watch the FILM again...)

But I'm glad I watched it!

*JESUS!!!*

THANKS for the response!!!

Sometimes when you post a THREAD and NO FUCKER REPLIES you think... ("Called that one WRONG!!!") Often, 'AGAIN' in my case...

It IS a HEARTBREAKING movie but... In the end it is a BEAUTIFUL story...

Is it sadder than beaches? or one flew over the cuckoos nest or steel magnolias?

If so I wont check it out they all made me cry.

Bambi is a sobber film...Watership down is a HORROR film

Steel magnolias is a complete heart breaker.

You want me to watch this film? this Room? If it is that sad I will cry.

Lived the DV life in a different manner as a child (witness, rarely victim) so I'm not sure I have the emotional strength for it. Thanks for the review. I am really looking forward to it but want to try and gently make it through the book first.
Just imagine being a child who had never been outside, whose entire universe was comprised of the tiny interior of a storage shed. You have never touched a leaf or a tree and have only met two human beings in your entire life. Now, visualize what an overwhelming shock it would be to suddenly be freed, all of your senses constantly bombarded with totally foreign sensations to the point that you miss that room. This is a heavy duty movie that explains the Stockholm Syndrome better than any movie ever made IMO.
