I'm fine with Leonardo playing Jack the Ripper. To me, he's really grown as an actor and mostly killed off that pretty boy image from the *Titanic days. I thought he was great in The Departed and The Revenant. Now if Tom Cruise played the part, I'd skip the movie altogether.

*By far the best part of Titanic was the end, the special effects of the ship sinking. Other than that it was a real snoozer.

Yay, I'm not alone in this. In general, I thought it was a great looking movie. Cameron's eye for detail shows pretty clearly in scene after scene. However, his clunky, cliche-ridden screenwriting does, too.AC5FkTNyj69CPsy4 That killed Avatar for me, too.

He needs to stay focussed on the visuals and turn the screenwriting and storytelling over to someone more talented, a characteristic he shares with George Luca, IMHO. Other than Ep. 4, the best Star Wars movies are the ones with the least involvement from George (e.g. Empire).

As for Leo playing the Ripper, he's welcome to it but I can guarantee it's been done better than he will. I'm not a fan of Leo (as indicated in the thread on Wolf of Wall Street).

There is a GREAT book about this called Devil in the White City, which is about Holmes, and the World's Fair, which was happening at the same time. I lovd that book so much I gave it out as a gift to like five different people. Impossible to put down.

I can't imagine Leonardo playing a serial killer. Or anything else. I just don't like him as an actor.

The Devil in The White City is a Great Book. I love How Erik Larson always portrays the dichotomy of history by writing parallel stories each representing two facets of good and evil.

As for the DiCaprio/Scorsese combo....sign me up! Gangs of New York, Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Aviator..... I can't wait for this movie.

It seems like older people have an issue with DiCaprio. When I suggested "The Revenant" to my dad he turned up his nose and said "That kid is in it." That's just as ridiculous as me not watching a Tom Hanks movie, because he was in "Bosom Buddies" and "Big".

Scorcese is a great director and Leo is a great actor. This movie will be killer.
Did anyone watch American Ripper on the History Channel? HH Holmes great great grandson, Jeff Mudgett, a retired trial attorney makes a very compelling arguement that HH Holmes and Jack the Ripper were one in the same person.
HH Holmes was buried 10 feet under in concrete, (apparently he made arrangements so as not to have his body dug up) and that's exactly what theyre doing.
It's gonna be pretty interesting to see how the series draws out.
There is some speculation he didn't die, but they hung someone in his place, although I don't see how.

I know it's been a while since this post, but I agree. I think DiCaprio will portray Holmes really well. He is a fine actor, yet a lot of people don't like him.

You're dead on. Just like Tom Hanks proved to be a very versatile actor, DiCaprio is doing the same. DiCaprio and Scorcese are a great combination. I look forward to the movie.
