I've been watching the Americans.

I tried to watch it numerous times before nothing really grabbed me. I've actually seen the first season twice. I just finished the second season and will watch all 6 but I'm still not seeing what is so great about it.

Is it me or does Kerri Russell look wayyy better now than she did 20 years ago?

Americans was great, there is, as many or perhaps even all series go, A season where its sort of a dud. Stick with it.

Kerri Russell is most definitely a looker. Felicity has come a long way hasn't she? lol

I'm currently watching Hunted, i guess it was a cinemax series a while ago?

Has another hottie in her 40's. Some aussie named Melissa George.

I"m not sure which one I'd like to disappoint more. I think the Aussie wins, but not by much...

Just started Too Old To Die Young, not quite sure what to make of it.

You should probably smoke some weed before watching....

I find that helps a little.
Just stumbled upon Black Mirror (Netflix) pretty good started with Season 5 - all short stories

The first seasons were far better.
I just finished up Orange is the New Black.

I thought it ended well. This was one of the first shows to be released all at once, bringing in the the "binge watching" era.

But I've found that if I binge watch a season of a show in a short amount of time then it seems longer before the next season comes out. And as I finish up Orange, I'm finding that I've lost track of a lot of the narratives that began in season 1.

I actually had to go back and use wikipedia to remind me of the characters that were brought up in the final montage.

In all, I think the show did a pretty job of showing the various issues that can lead to a person being incarcerated in the US. As for reality, the show started off well. The US prison system is very race based. And as the series went on, I feel like they abandoned that for a more "it's a small world" type of view.

I understand why they did that. They wanted to illuminate other issues. The Metoo movement, the current immigration situation, etc... And I think they did a good job of walking the line of comedy and social commentary. The whole series sheds light on the prison-industrial complex. That whole lake thing at the end of season 3 though.... not great.

I bought the book long ago, and now I think I'll read it.
I just started to watch "The Boys".

It's very very good. A realistic, rated R superhero show. It makes me wonder how good many of the MC movies would be if they were rated R. 9.0 on IMDB. Quite dirty as well. The cast is amazing and the characters are great.

Oh I watched some of this. Was a bit gruesome in parts but yeah I agree. It's good!
I'm back to "Handmaids Tale" for season 3 on Hulu...

i really wanted to like this more than i did. i love the premise of it. that said, it had some issues. for one, it was incredibly predictable - i watched it with my wife and we pretty much called out the entire plot before a lot of it happened. also, it wasn't quite sure what it wanted to be - it felt like it really needed to go dark, and it did a lot of the times, but it also veered off into campy territory a lot. and then there were the continuity issues. if a show is good enough, i'll ignore those, but they kind of stuck out here - like the whole aqua dude thing were he's suddenly naked, waist down, and then he's not again when they show a frontal, and the shirts that the main character was wearing - Ramones, Nirvana, etc, yet it's blatantly established that he likes Billy Joel, etc. i really want to give it a chance, but with limited watching time i have trouble committing to shows that might get better, so unless i hear differently it's a bit of a pass for me.

Just binged all 8 episodes earlier this week. It was excellent!

Ruined By A Redhead - She told him she would ruin him; she kept her promise

Sunset Grill - Sometimes you find love where you least expect it

All My Love - Real love can last a lifetime and still feel brand new.

Tender Seduction - sometimes the long game pays off.

OMG! Season 1 of The Terror is being replayed finally! Such an excellent book, but I missed the series the first time around, and have been waiting for it to re-air. First two episodes are really good.

Don't have a lot of inrrerest in season 2, which has nothing to do with the book or the first season, but I will probably give it a shot.
If you are looking for something old that you missed, Longmire, Breaking Bad, and Dexter are all excellent. True Detectives season one as well, but we thought season two was a big letdown. We will get to season three sooner or later.

We really enjoyed The Closer and its sequel, Major Crimes. CBS does reruns on Saturday and Sunday, or at least Albuquerque CBS does. I have to admit to putting my headset on during some episodes. They make me cry too much.

Looks like we're in for a nasty spell of wether.

Yeah I was just going to post a notice re this. I was surprised that there was a season two and that it was out already.

I have an interest in Japanese folklore so I was intrigued... But I watched the first episode and there were several things that troubled me. First... it was filmed in Vancouver. And when shows are filmed in Van, it indicates a need to save money. Vancouver can not stand in for LA.

The other issues was that the main actor seemed to be really bad actor. It might have been the writing... but I'm not sure.

I think I'll wait until they all come out and then binge them. This is an issue that I enjoy. The whole Japanese internment thing is very enticing to me.

I absolutely loved this show. Superb acting!

I'm never quite sure why they keep the name of a show but change the subject completely.

I enjoyed the first season. I have my DVR recording the second season. I'll get around to it, maybe.

I started to watch NOS4R2 but gave up after the second episode. It diverged way too much from the book.

It didn't capture the creepiness of the book AT ALL! I stopped after two episodes.

Now that they've ruined most of Stephan King's books, they appear to be doing the same to his son.

Personally I'm avoiding The Boys just because I find Garth Enis tends to write mainly about what he hates rather than what he loves. Preacher was probably his best work (and the TV adaptation is pretty damn good) but even that gets, ironically, very preachy.

If you like the premise but not the execution I'd probably suggest Umbrella Academy or Doom Patrol (both on Netflix). They're goofier, and obviously written by people who have a certain affection for comics even as they subvert the standard stories...but they also both get into dark themes and the idea of how messed up it is to force people to play "heroes".

Legion is also amazing. It's less about traditional superheroes, but it's some of the best psychedelic storytelling I've ever seen. Aubrey Plaza in particular does an absolutely fantastic job.

It was bad. I watched the whole season. It seemed like they geared it towards a tween audience.

Oh man... I just finished watching Doom Patrol. I also watched Umbrella Academy. I suggest you give The Boys a try. As far as R rated superhero shows go, the Boys takes the gold so far. Umbrella gets a solid silver with Doom coming in at a distant bronze.

It has the most pessimistic take on superheroes. I loved it.

I also liked Umbrella Academy but they, like Doom Patrol, seem to be copies of the X-men. The Boys takes the cheesy DC Justice league and flips the script.

I've always said that the x-men should be an r rated series focusing on characters and issues rather that dumb CGI action. I hope Kevin Feige takes a note from these series for when the MCU brings in the mutants.
I waited 2 years for the season of Mindhunter.

It's even better than the first. If you are interested in true crime then this show is a must. The reenactments of real life serial killers are dead on.

This season takes place in the late 70s with a focus on the Atlanta child murders.

I just hope that it doesn't take another two years for the next season.

Ironic thing is that Doom Patrol actually predates X-Men (the comics obviously, not the show). It's definitely more light-hearted and if you're in it for darker superhero stories I can understand why it wouldn't float your boat. My main complaint was that there wasn't enough of Alan Tudyk screentime, he absolutely killed it...even when he was made of goofy-looking CGI.

If you want character focused X-men style stories I could not recommend Legion enough. Although it only loosely references its X-Men origins (main character is prof X's son), it's a wonderful, dark and surreal story and the Shadow King is a great villain.

Hopefully the New Mutants movie, being billed as a horror movie, will also be good for that.

I've watched Legion.

The first season was ok but I have little patience for non R rated superhero stuff.

I know that Doom Patrol predates X-Men, but it has gone through many reincarnations since the 60s.

I felt like The Boys was the most realistic depiction of how superheroes would actually be.

I was looking forward to the New Mutants, but the constant rewrites and delays have me worried.

I'm more of a marvel guy, I always found DC comics to be a bit cheesy.

When you responded to me I felt the same way as when I walked into my local comics shop to sell one of my copies of Amazing Spiderman #129.

I had some fat guy in an Iron Man T-shirt talk to me like I was a child.
The trailer for the Mandalorian just came out....

Looks pretty fucking sweet....

New season of Peaky Blinders just came out.

It's a show that focuses on a crime family in 1920s Birmingham.

Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy are awesome. The accent might be bit much for American audiences though.
I just started Charles II the power and passion on Amazon. so far so good..
Just finished watching the first season of The Terror (yeah, I'm late to the party). I really liked it, although the monster is kinda goofy. My biggest complaint was that you didn't really see the cold and hunger and misery of the men, which the book was VERY good at evoking (I got cold whenever I read it). I'd still recommend it - I'm a sucker for Arctic adventure stories.
