Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Nice threads.
Almost done my noir and neo-noir binging.

Hitchcock’s, Vertigo. It’s a longish, drawn out movie, but Jimmy Stewart is creepy as fuck. Kim Novak is gorgeous and is also fantastic. Have patience with this one. Lots of overacting, but that was the style. It’s best without words. Hitchcock was a cinematic genius. And after all that, you just go ‘no fucking way’ with how it ends.

John Wick 3. Too much fighting, chasing, and shooting. All of those were expected, but there is too much of a good thing. Should have saved some for JW 4.

Mean Streets. Painful to watch. I fast forwarded through much of it. It was a struggle.

Got a couple more oldies programmed to record: Murder, My Sweet and Double Indemnity. Both rank high on the noir scale. Also got Hitchcock’s, Birds, and The Man Who Knew Too Much in the queue.
Doctor Sleep. It rocked.
Forced Mr R to watch The Greatest Showman with me
Watched Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore from 1974 just last night.

Kris Kristofferson is a sexy man.
Rewatched KUNG FU HUSTLE
Saw Parasite in a packed theater. Incredible movie. Actually better than Bong Joon Ho's previous movies which were incredible too.

Couldn’t sleep so I watched this last night. Growing quite fond of Bogie. He’s quite funny in this, especially the tummy growling scene at the beginning. I’m not sure why people ‘fell in love’ so quickly in a lot of these old movies, but it’s naivety is amusing. This might be my favourite of his that I’ve seen. Plus, he plays a Canadian! Bonus points for Mr. Bogart.
Dr. Sleep...enjoyed it. It's not the Shining but still worth watching
Joker.
It was OK but lazy. Also because of Joaquin. And because of the marketing. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about something happening.
Every time someone thinks "OK,she's better than that" I let them down.
7/10.

Really enjoyed this one. However, even though Dick Powel did a fine job, I think Bogart would have played Philip Marlowe better (again).

A wee bit convoluted near the end, but it was still entertaining. I think this movie could be re-done and made even better. They key would be the actor cast as Marlowe. A smallish-to-average man with perma-5 o'clock shadow, near-baritone voice, facially expressive, and a quick, one-line wit. My first thought was Jason Priestley. IDK. He has played really profane & dark characters before (see Call Me Fitz), and he has played a PI. But there is baggage with that man. Maybe a talented unknown would be best.

Started watching the original Pink Panther during dinner tonight. It was on. I was laughing. My kids not so much. "It's sooo old," they said. "But he's so funny," I countered. Good physical comedy doesn't go out of style.
Rocketman ~ SO good!!

Please read my naughty new Micro.

I've just watched Joker. I thought it was brilliant. Superb acting by Phoenix and great Scorsese influence. Top marks!
Just saw Midway tonight.

Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds.

Still, after all these years (1963), a magnificent movie. Excellent story. Given the time, pretty good acting too. Jessica Tandy and Suzanne Pleshette. And Tippi Hedren is absolutely, positively drop dead gorgeous. She's also the mother of Melanie Griffith. Cool.

Cinematic genius. The school yard scene with the climbing structure behind Tippi as she waits and smokes - brilliant tension building moment. Just brilliant. Just like Jaws. You know Bruce is swimming nearby...

YES!!! It's a brilliant film.
T and I had a movie night over the weekend. We started out with Big Hero 6, which is such a charming film, and then we watched The Departed. Great movie.
Zombieland 2

It wasn't that bad. It wasn't that good, either. At least it was at Flix Brewhouse where I had a delicious pint of amber ale (but disappointing lukewarm popcorn). That is all.

My son and I want to see this, but we’ll watch with low expectations. Tough act to follow the first one.

Started watching Alfred Hitchcock’s, The Man Who Knew Too Much.

So far, perfect example of how not to behave when travelling overseas to exotic and volatile locales.
Midway was the most recent movie I have seen. Great movie if you enjoy war movies or history. It is an excellent historical portrayal of the Battle of Midway and some of the events that led up to it. (The former history teacher in me was glued to the screen).

What I enjoyed even more was seeing Woody Harrelson as Chester Nimitz. After just recently seeing him as Tallahassee in Zombieland 2, it was delightful to see him in something completely different. He is one of my favorite actors as he seems to be able to play a variety of characters and make them each believable and entertaining.

Ruined By A Redhead - She told him she would ruin him; she kept her promise

Sunset Grill - Sometimes you find love where you least expect it

All My Love - Real love can last a lifetime and still feel brand new.

Tender Seduction - sometimes the long game pays off.

Please let me know what you and your son thought about Z2?

I did laugh at some things, smiled at a lot of others, but also rolled my eyes (figuratively) several times, too. Woody was great!

Make sure to stay at the beginning of the credits (but there's nothing after the credits, so no need to stick around further).

Have you seen Juan of the Dead? It's really good.

This. Amazing! Hitchcock at his cinematic best. If you’ve seen this, then you’ll know the no-dialogue build up to the cymbals. He used lots of whispering or dialogue not heard, to keep the audience in suspense.

This beginning is drawn out, almost attention sapping, but once it gets going, hold on. Yes, for a 63 years old, it’s incredible.

When Doris Day sang, Que Sera, I think that’s the correct spelling, I thought, how fucking hokey. Boo!!! But how Hitchcock used it later in the film was brilliant, especially the way the camera followed the sound of the song up the stairs in the embassy. BRILLIANT!!!

Yes, it’s older and there are goofy things and a few plot holes, but damn. Still better than most of the crap that’s put out today.

Finally got to watch this with my kids. Summer and vacation and school and stuff prevented us from seeing it in the theatre.

What a treat! So funny, especially if you have kids that watched Dora The Explorer and Go Diego Go.

Casting did a wonderful job, especially with the young lady (18 years old) who plays Dora. She is a real charmer. She brought awkward from the jungle to an LA high school. My kids cringed with some of the embarrassing things she did, because they could relate. I laughed at my son so much.

The corpse flower hallucination scene. OMG. So brilliant. So funny.

And then the poop in the jungle scene. Priceless!

did you shout out "Dora's a slut" during the movie? cause, like you said, that would have been funny.

Double Indemnity is up next. It just recorded. Got the highest noir rating of all movies. But Fred MacMurray as the lead? I’ll be humming the, My Three Sons theme song during the whole flick.

I watched this on Netflix the other night (haha pun intended!). I highly recommend it!
