Had to check but I see it is the teaser that I have already seen. It was been quite a while since even the Japanese put out a really, really good Godzilla movie. This one looks promising (I never had high hopes for the 1997 one because I'm not a fan of Emmerich and Devlin) and the brief glimpse of the big G in the teaser suggests they are modelling theirs more on the Japanese Godzilla than the last American one.

I grew up watching Godzilla and other kaiju movies on the Saturday afternoon movie on a nearby American TV station (independent at the time but now part of Fox). Godzilla, Rodan, Ghidrah, Mothra et al. are old friends of mine and seeing the "King" back and done well would have me cheering.

I think most of the "Millennium Series" (Godzilla 2000 and on) were good.

The 70's saw our favorite radioactive, fire-breather get silly.

84 was just a rehash of the modified original - I have a copy of the non-Raymond Burr version - even without 'Ironsides' in it, it's longer than the American release.

Let's hope Legendary doesn't screw it up.

I agree though Mathew Broderick film was rubbish, the song Deeper underground however wasn't. I agree with Cieran the trailor looks good looking forward to seeing it and I know my son will love it. Found some pics on google.

They ran out of new ideas years ago - most of the movies the past decade have been re-hashes of older movies or extensions of TV shows.

I've missed our big green lizard. He's an institution.

Wow, kiera. Someone else who watched the Godzilla Power Hour (or whatever it was called)? Excellent! (though I could have done without Godzookie).

Godzilla is a series that has been rebooted at least twice (Godzilla 1984 and Godzilla 2000 each rebooted things) so this is really par for the course for the character rather than Hollywood's usual obsession with rehashing old properties.

Add to that a lack of a previous English as a first language version (all previous ones were Japanese dubbed or with American scenes intercut for US distribution) and this is really a property that I am OK with remaking.

(Yes, I am in denial over the Emmerich-Devlin Godzilla. It only happened in my worst dreams.)

And Cieran, I have also heard good things about the Millennium Godzilla but have not seen them for myself.

Yes, Godzookie needs to be forgotten, just like Minilla (Son of Godzilla - 1967)
I read the comics, Marvel and others, and they did a pretty good job with him.

Well, '84 tried to be a re-boot, but it linked back to the Americanized original - Burr's character was called in by the US cause he was the only American survivor of the original attack in Japan back in '55. I think that was the main problem with it. If you're going to do a re-boot, then RE-boot it.

No, the copy of the '55 original I have is in Japanese with English sub-titles - I don't remember them dubbing it for general release.

Rent them, what ever. A couple were a little hookey, but 2000, vs-Mecha-Godzilla (Tokyo SOS also had Mecha, but it's not up to the others) and Final Wars are probably the cream of the crop in that group.

Um, check the date of the original post. That's actually the teaser for the 2014 one (which, as you say, rocks).

Cloverfield Lane looks interesting, esp. if, as the title implies, it's in the same universe as Cloverfield.

On the Godzilla front, there are currently two projects looming:

Unlike most people, I LOVED Cloverfield. The fact that John Goodman is in the follow-up is gravy.

It will only be the movies Godzookey is in (which is not many, thank God) and I will feed you green chili enchiladas, which are so good they should be illegal. We wil then move on to the turtle-ish glory that is Gamera.

I have never played D&D. So no opinion on it.
