I am surprised there hasn't been more reaction to Larry McMurtry dying. What a talent. Lonesome Dove is easily on my top 10 list (top 5, probably) of favorite books ever. I've read it three times.
Anyone else love Lonesome Dove? The miniseries was really good too.
I met McMurtry once, if you can call him giving me a stink look from across the floor of his Archer City bookstore a meeting. Yes, he was a dick, but his writing moved me.
He wrote the screenplays to Brokeback Mountain and Terms of Endearment too, both astonishingly good movies. And he has a little book called Roads, about his favorite highways, that is just a great read, and a great history lesson.
