The Departed (absolute finality) and No Country For Old Men (ambiguity).
I thought No Country For Old Men was really good until they just decided to quit writing and rolled credits. Weirdest ending I've seen.
I would have to say Sling Blade. Incredibley realistic in every aspect!!;)
House of Sand and Fog
The Way We Were - watched it today, it's certainly the most romantic. x

The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas's is one of the ones I'd put as the best.

Also the Sky Crawlers and Grave of the Fireflies (I've never been able to watch the latter twice sad )
Teased and Tormented -My very first story and competition entry is now up!
La vita è bella, (aka- Life Is Beautiful)

Of all our inventions for mass communication,
pictures still speak the most universally understood language.

Walt Disney
Definitely would have to be "The Departed". One of the best movies I have ever seen.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, The Hitcher (1986)

That movie was shocking! Mouth dropping sadness.
The House of Flying Daggers
The Italian Job (1969)

"You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"
I think "The Family Man" is a really good movie. You don't know if it's a happy ending or not
Casablanca, hands down. With honorable mention to Cannonball Run. Everyone knows the traditional happy ending would have been Dean and Sammy winning the race.
Cool Hand Luke.

Hands down.
Have seen a lot of great flicks mentioned here...but for me..."Being There"
Some great movies without happy endings are Only God Forgives, Kids, Gerry, Last Days, Elephant, this is england, Made in Britain just to name a few.
Schindler's List.
The Wicker Man (1973) - I haven't seen the more recent version starring Nicholas Cage.

Anna Karenina (1948)

Nicholas and Alexandra (1971)

Brief Encounter (1945)

Brazil (1985)

A Tale of Two Cities (1958)
Arlington Road

Atonement

Colossus - The Forbin Project
1984 and Jacobs ladder
Romanov: The Imperial Family a Russian film about the last years of the Imperial family when Nicholas II abdicated to the murder of his family and their servants. This is a more accurate execution scene then other films which is based on the Russian imperial family. Especially when the guy shot one of the daughters under the chin.

Cabin in the Woods the 2011 edition

Cloud atlas, if you take into account all the different lives

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Knowing that it's not a perfect ending but hoping they make movies for the other two books :P
