I've been writing a multi-chapter story that is apparently being well-received. After each chapter I get messages asking how soon the next chapter is coming out. And they've increased dramatically after each one is dropped. Is this normal? I'm already working on the 7th chapter now and I like to space them out for a number of reasons but each day in between seems to increase the volume of messages from readers. I would have thought interest would naturally drop off over time, not increase. This is my first experience writing on this site.

No, this is not normal. 😅 It sounds like you've collected some enthusiastic fans! To stave off their questions, you might want to add something to the top of your profile page (where you point out that you can't respond to every message) saying that you don't have a fixed publishing schedule (nobody does) and reminding them that if they click Follow Author, they'll get a notification whenever you publish a new story. I suspect they might be asking you stupid questions just to get your attention in hopes that you'll chitchat with them.

Thanks. I had already indicated in the opening lines of my profile my unavailability for chat/relationships, I'm only here to write and read other stories, and I realize many don't read it or read it and don't care, just to try their luck. The others who genuinely beg for the next chapter (and it seems it's the same men and women each time) are apparently really serious about getting the next chapter as soon as possible, like devoted soap opera fans. Though it hasn't been intentional the endings of chapters look like cliff hangers when I go back to review where I cut off the story in order to stay at a reasonable length.
