What is your process in choosing a story to read?

I am curious, how readers decide to read a story. Do you see the title and go 'hey this looks good' and dive in right away? or is there more of a process of Oooh, this title seems intriguing, followed by an ah yes the cover art looks even more interesting ( and if there is no cover art do you navigate away?) and then finally, having the first line draw you in and you just have to see where it goes? or some variant of that?

Do you only read erotica stories when you are looking to get off and if you go soft then you don't finish the story? Do you read the stories for the art of eroticism depicted within it? Just curious how people go about picking a story and reading it to the end, probably cos I am struggling with reading things myself lately and am trying to understand why that is.

Does the format of the story vs poem come into play at all? For anyone with reading disabilities, are there certain things you take into consideration to help you read when you really want to? I'm curious to everyone's thoughts on this.

The primary reason I choose to read a particular story is the subject matter. I know that sounds obvious, but allow me to elaborate. While I do like erotic and sexy photos and videos, I especially enjoy stories. Why? Because I find it easier to mentally create the images that go with the written word then trying to formulate a story behind a visual medium. As for the stories themselves, to me there's nothing more arousing than a story about a lone woman who challenges herself with a nude self dare in a public place, indoors or outdoors, i.e., a location one normally wouldn't be completely naked in. Maybe she's working late, a teacher after school, going on a late night stroll in a local park. Whatever and wherever, just so long as she's alone and in a public setting. After removing every (as in EVERY) single stitch of her clothes, she goes off on her erotic adventure. She doesn't get caught or meet anyone else, but the possibility she might keeps her extremely aroused and on edge (which helps increase her arousal) during her entire dare. In the end, the story climaxes (pun intended) when she gets herself off to a extremely satisfying orgasm. So if any of the talented writers out there would like to tickle my fancy so I can tickle my fancy, I would look forward to your stories.

I look for what I'm in the mood for and go by the summary. It's what its there for.

I enjoy reading a well written story regardless if I am turned on already. As for how I select a story- I read the summary and look at the category tags to see if the content interests me at the moment. Many times the title is really the third thing I consider on Lush as many titles are so similar yet for unrelated purposes.

I also read the summary. I enjoy lots of genres. I would really love to read a good story about a woman coming home to her man with a fresh creampie. Then, while her man is fucking her, tell him every little sorrid detail of the sex

Stories less than 2000 words and don’t involve chapters.

It has to be in an area of interest. I don't typically read stories about sex and monsters. And it has to be 3000 words or less and can't be part of a series that extends more than a few parts.

No real process. I can the featured covers to see if something catches my eye, or if there is a continuing chapter from a story I've read. Otherwise I simply scroll through about ten stories and see what looks interesting. I know I've missed follow up chapters of stories I've read and "liked."

I prefer the TRUE category stories. Years ago, when the internet was in its infancy, I loved hooking up with total strangers for phone-sex. People seemed to be more willing to share some wild, truthful experiences (had a bunch of those BTW). Those mutual masturbation sessions with both men and women were quite memorable.

I try to take a different subject every time and ones that are not too long

Whoever offers the most coins in exchange. There's not much of a backlog right now, so make me a offer.

I alternate between categories I’m interested in. I’ll often look for a recommended read or an author I’ve enjoyed in the past. If I find a new author I like I may follow them. I read very fast and I frequently read the first few sentences then go to another story if I don’t like the style of writing.

My newest story! An Island Competition entry: The Mermen of Jibei

Your process isn't dissimilar from mine. But I tend to read more of stories I wind up not enjoying. I think I'll switch to your methodology - "read the first few sentences". I wind up wasting too much time with stories I don't like.

If I'm not hooked with 3 paragraphs, I'm gone.

Dammit.

Note to self: put as much sex in the first 3 paragraphs as possible...

Doesn't have to be sex. In fact, I'm more interested in compelling characters and situations than just the sex.

Don't just tell you're screwing. Make me wanna know why.

I find more than 3000 words is too long. Though Im straight I tend to read gay male stories as they are so kinky erotic and inttoduce me to a sexual world I don't know too much about.

Well that fell flat. I thought you may have read one of mine and realised I was joking. Meh.

I haven't read any of your stories yet, but perusing your profile, that's going to change very soon.

Category and then length. Anything over 5K gets a pass.

Assuming one sexual encounter per story (which is a decent rule-of-thumb) fewer words will improve the sex to blather ratio. I don't read stories here for in-depth examinations of the human condition.

Number one is topic. I gravitate towards NIP and ENF stories, and among those my favorites are stories about a single woman all alone engaging in risky public nudity. You know, where she gets completely naked somewhere she shouldn't. Work, school, library, park, neighborhood, indoors, outdoors, daytime, nighttime, doesn't matter. Nobody else is involved, nobody catches her and blackmails her, she's not being forced to do it, she doesn't end up having sex with anyone. Just her and her alone, completely head-to-toe naked and enjoying herself engaging in such risky behavior -- the riskier it gets the more aroused she gets. And while such stories do exist (excellent stories written by excellent authors) such stories tend to be hard to find which is unfortunate.
