Authors, you can turn off story scoring, and now require comments if you so wish

In your settings, we've now added:

Disable Scoring: Disallow scoring on my stories.

Comment on Score: A comment must be given when my stories are scored.

This means, that if you really don't want anyone to score your stories, they can't.

For those who are particularly interested in getting feedback (this may work against you), you can force members to comment on why they scored your story a particular way.

These are features several members have requested.

I recommend leaving your settings in the default state.
Interesting. Will this effect previously published stories or just future stories?
Funny you should ask that, I've just asked Gav the same question.

It should only be active for stories submitted from hereonin.

Funny you should say that, I've just tried and scoring is now switched off on both my stories, which is what I prefer.

I've just heard back from Gav, and it will WIPE ALL YOUR SCORES across the board, so think carefully before you decide to go this route.

The scores are UNRECOVERABLE.
Its interesting to see the new scoring system. It is always hard to find a perfect one. In the Olympic Games they have the fairest scoring system where top scores and lowest score do not count I feel if the stories were rated from say 3-5 would be fairest as some people do not like other people for some reason or their theme and purposely score a 1. A few ones will bring down anyone's average. Just food for thought Nicola and Gav. I appreciate everything you do on this wonderful site.
Thanks Tracey, we try to please all of the people all of the time...

It's impossible.

The thin skinned people should now be happy, the people that demand a comment (even with a 5 score!) should be happy, and the rest should remain happy with what we consider the best option!

I want my Mommy.
(but not in a sexual way)
The same GQP demanding we move on from January 6th, 2021 is still doing audits of the November 3rd, 2020 election.

Fairness across the board!

Maybe the thin-skinned will feel more "protected" instead of happy?
Out of curiosity, if you turn of scoring, does it also turn off commenting?
Are you truly awake?
So this setting works retrospectively across all your stories. Your scores will be hidden and available again if you untick this option.

This does not affect commenting, which can be turned off with a different setting.

Just because I haven't annoyed you for awhile I noticed that charmbrights scores are still available to see on his profile but not in the story itself. Is that a little bug that you can see it in the profile or is that how it is meant to be?

btw, thank you for giving us these options
Nice catch Fugs!

I don't mind that particularly. I switched off to try the new offering mostly out of curiosity, but I really do not understand how people vote, so I never vote myself. I do send comments from time to time, good and bad.

I'm one of the ones that thought votes of 3 or lower should require a comment. I'll have to think about the new options.

That's how it was originally, I posted about it changing about 6 months ago. All the scores were being skewed upwards because hardly anyone wanted to give a reason why they voted a story down.

You have to be a member to vote a story low now, which means we know who's doing it

And will that comment be irremovable?

Because currently, both the commentor and the author can remove the comment.

And if the voter can then return to remove their comment, it would leave this amendment redundant ...

Settings no longer left on default, I'll let you know how it goes x
Yes, you should have a hazard label on you, "warning CG will be your every fantasy"

If the member deletes their story comment, a warning should pop up telling them their score will also be removed.

Authors can't remove individual comments on their stories. Or do you mean something else CG?
@Fugs, what would I do without my faithful beta tester

I have removed the scores from profile pages now if blocked.

I have also removed the option for members to delete their own comments from a story that has been enabled for comment on scoring.

Hope thats all the holes patched for these features!

Can they not ... oh that is most disappointing ... and what should I do with any comments that aren't as perfect as I would like?

Well I have adjusted, it is working well and it is interesting that I am receiving more comments rather than less votes.

One slight issue (very minor); one reader ended up double commenting as they commented first and then voted and had to comment again ... maybe at some point in the future the Comment and Vote function on this option could be linked both ways to prevent inconveniencing the reader unneccessarily.

And thank you, Gav for all your lovely work.

@CG

Thats a tough one, do we assume their initial comment is descriptive enough to validate their score? Lets suck it and see, worse case they have to enter two comments (and we give them the option to delete one).
