I love writing romantic stories but have been getting increasingly side-tracked when writing the more intimate parts of the story. This usually ends up with the story being way sexier than I intended in the first place. Does anyone else have this problem?
I have had it happen but I've also had stories where I started off with the sexy stuff and then found the back story taking over and ending up with it being more of a romance with sex. There's one story in particular that predates joining Lush and has never actually been finished that started as a "First Time" erotic story (albeit a fairly romantic one),but would likely come out as a pure romance with a bit of eroticism if i was to write it now. As I worked through the story in my head, I found myself more interested in the characters and their relationship than the sex between them.
It might just be me, but I tend to write the sexy parts first and then flesh out the story. It seems to work best for me to know where they will end up and then add how they got there. I am a bit backwards in life most of the time so it my just work for me, but I hope this helps.
...I thought that maybe a new life, a different life, wouldn’t be so bad. But where the hell did I put the receipt, and could you return something that was over twenty years old? Where do you go to get a new life when your old one has you so puzzled you don’t know how to fix it? Wish I knew.
-Anita Blake (Laurell K. Hamilton)
That cannot be true. Why the hell would they get married? How are they going to have kids? It makes no sense to me!
Who cares, - if it makes for a better story go for it. I know I have surprised myself at times when I have written an experience into a story and I spiced it up a bit myself.I wish that it had been that good at the time.
Keep it up.
