yes, it has been discussed a million times before, and no, we have no interest in putting in the time or effort simply to make sure that people who put up a picture of a porn star instead of their own is 'outed'.
q: how come it took 3 months for my story to be published?
a: we were too busy making sure that no one posted porn stars in their photo gallery to verify it.
this it the internet. everyone here is an adult and can usually figure things out for themselves. it's also an erotica fantasy site - if someone wants to be a porn star let them - i find that the best way to figure out who is real and who is not is getting to know them - if you're just looking for a quick wank, what does it matter in the first place? as you said, it's usually fairly obvious.
btw, i'm not really an animated cartoon character, in case you were wondering.
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.
This has been discussed before many times - as has the idea of a "name and shame thread" - the argument tends to boil down to what is acceptable fantasy and what is deception. If someone wants to come on here and pretend to be a porn star who are you to spoil their fun? Fakes are usually easier to spot from the way they act rather than the way they look.
It's not as straightforward as it at first seems. There are many reasons why someone will use a fake and unless you know exactly why, it won't help matters if they're name and shamed. I know exactly how much women especially are pressured to put photos up; putting up fakes just makes life easier for some people. With reverse image searches you can't really hide behind a fake picture for long. We all have to go in with our eyes open as well as our minds.
On the flip side - knowing how hot some of my friends actually are - sometimes I wish their pics WERE fake! Would make life a hell of a lot easier.

If symptoms persist, consult a psychiatrist.
Why not read some stories instead

there are some incredibly sexy people here. it's the internet, we communicate through spoken word, not face to face, purely thru words, something a little strange, seeing as how, honestly, this is an image driven culture. not everyone looks like a porn star here. that doesn't mean that, when we chat, we don't come across as porn stars. as a woman, i am especially sensitive to this - girls tend to be dismissed simply because they'r not perfect - a few extra pounds, breasts that are too small, hair that is too frizzy. doesn't mean they're not incredibly sexy, but they might not have the confidence to be sexy if you're judging them by their photo.
on lush, it's our brains that are sexy. so yeah, i do get it - like i said, i deal with this by not posting my photo all over my page, but some do it by posting pics that match the sexy in their brain - and yeah, it's misrepresentation, but does it really hurt anyone if you think "SpiceGirl1872" has huge boobs when she's actually got wee itty bitty ones? not really, unless you end up proposing to her online one night (not really a good idea, btw!).
and yeah, i get that it bugs some people, that some people are mired in the fantasy of actually being a porn star, and yeah, some of those people are probably incredibly fake, but once again, unless we all tend to show sides of us that we want others to see and hide the blemishes - this is a little more extreme, but it's not all the different, in a way.
*shrugs* i came to term with this issue a while back (long story) and now, i simply don't care enough to worry about it. let the buyer beware, as they say.

Sorry, maybe it's just that I'm older, more experienced, and/or more of a cynic. But really, what did you expect? When I'm in a chat room, I often check out other profiles. I'd prefer to see a pic that I can believe might be of the person. But, I have no problem with no pic. I respect the fact that they feel the need for privacy and prefer not to pretend to be something they are not. When there is a pic, I wonder about the likelihood that it is really of the person. You never know. And really, unless you're actually going to meet them, who cares?
Coming to an internet sex site is like going to a movie. It requires the willing suspension of disbelief if you're going to enjoy yourself. Except in those cases where you actually want to meet someone face to face, what they look like, or what character they portray online is irrelevant. Online, I portray a somewhat attractive twenty seven year old woman with red hair, small breasts, and a semi-polite demeanour who tries to be nice to everyone. In real life I discovered a cure for herpes and kept it to myself, because, fuck the rest of you, at least I don't have herpes, and I plant poison ivy in people's yards. If I tried doing that online I'd just end up with a rash.

I don't think it dilutes the site. It adds characters. If anything, we have a laugh over the obvious fakes...and the people who fall for them. That doesn't take away from the site as an overall community. And what kind of community would we be if we didn't have our fakes? It doesn't take away from the great stories, and talent, and debates in the forum, or random funnies in the forum. It'd be different if Lush were a dating site...but it's not. It's an adult themed social network, and should be treated as such. There are fakes all over Twitter and Facebook. Does this dilute and take away from either of these social sites? Do you think Mark Zuckerberg (sp?) or Mr. Twitter Bird is losing sleep over the most likely millions of fake accounts? Of course not. Lush is something different for everyone who joins. You get what you put out. As Shylass said, the fakes are only fooling themselves in the long run. So why go out of our way to make fools out of them?
I totally understand where you're coming from, because it used to bug the shit out of me. I was actually one of the people who wanted some way to "out" fakes. But THAT is what would lead to the dilution of the site. I'm not in the business of designing morals for anyone but myself. It's ultimately your responsibility not to become anyone's fool. Just let it be...these things have a way of finding themselves out, anyways. Or the fakes just fizzle out altogether. But it becomes the mythical Hydra. You get rid of one and 2 more will pop up. It's quite tiresome. Let the fakes run their course...overall, they're not hurting anyone...at least not anyone that doesn't allow them to.

I have thought about posting my actual picture but then I looked at some of the stories that I wrote and putting my picture on them didn't seem like such a great idea.
I use a cartoon avatar that I thinks represents my personality more than my actual looks. I do have to mention that I am a red head that likes to fence.
This thread reminds me of the movie "Surrogates" with Bruce Willis.
As said above here are lots of reasons why people keep their identity secret. I don't have my photo on here at all for privacy reasons but do share with friends eventually. As for "fakes" some people want the fantasy..to be what they aren't. That can cause heartbreak if taken too far but everyone should be careful. Once I've seen someone on cam, I feel more comfortable knowing they are who they say they are but do you always want to know if you're enjoying the experience? We have all discovered here that appearance means very little and the person within is what is important. Best to concentrate on that and not worry about "fakes".
" I don't know the question, but sex is definitely the answer"
Woody Allen
Amazing! I find this a patently absurd question. If ever there was a site about fantasies, this is it. As my profile says, I'm 66. If I am having a nice chat with a 25 year old woman whose only visual image of me is of a parrot, she has to make up a face to put on my voice. So which of these two faces is likelier to be more attaractive to a 25 yo woman, the one she makes up or the real 66 yo one? Likewise, if I want to chat up a 50 yo woman who has a 25 yo model's pic as her avatar, what do I care? I know it is an avatar, so I'm going to make up whatever details either I or she want to put forward in the chat. Here on Lush I can have a very hot, sexy chat with a 25 yo woman so beautiful she can make my eyes bleed, and there is a fair chance she will perform most any kind of sex act with me I want. If I go to the local "meat market", I am unlikely to get even a plain-looking woman to let me buy her a drink!
Even if someone is looking for a more substantive relationship it will have to be built of the content of their interactions with others, so the avatar or picture they post will not have a significant impact on their relationships.
Finally, if a person is maliciously deceptive, it is a shame, but speaks to the fact that the Internet is not necessarily a benign place.
From Wikipedia - The phrase "caveat emptor" arises from the fact that buyers often have less information about the good or service they are purchasing, while the seller has more information. Defects in the good or service may be hidden from the buyer, and only known to the seller. Thus, the buyer should beware.
Hmm. I'm just too lazy to do a Google Image search for pics to put in my profile...I mean, think of the time and effort it must take to Photoshop your face onto pornstar bodies...whew. Exhausting. I'll pass.

Last time I posted this ? I got so much shit from ppl it was insane. Hope you find the answer BC it is annoying as hell. Seems almost every guy poses as a man w six pack abs!!! I state if a picture isn't me or is it obvious bc my face and body are clearly posted. Perhaps this site is fantasy site, so ppl use fantasy lives. It isn't a dating website, thank God.
I understand where you are coming from. I once met a "girl" on here. We talked for a while, then she turned into a he. If you have so much trouble meeting people on here that you have to misrepresent what sex you are something is very wrong with the situation!
