The word slut is neither good or bad. It’s interesting that we use the word slut in the context of ladies and the words stud for men. For some reason, the word stud seems to be more positive than slut. Both suggest individuals who enjoy sex. Perhaps we should see ladies who are proactive in sex as stud and indulgent men as sluts.
I am glad that a flutter can mean so much, and be oh so powerful! In a society where there is still an expectation that women's sex drives should be seen (on porn) but not heard (in real life), the word 'slut' has come denote a woman whose sex drive is seen and heard. That can make some uncomfortable, as it confounds accepted (and societally acceptable) gender roles.
As a gay woman, I am tempted to make no comment on how men see women, as it could be said to be literally none of my business in one sense, but in another, it does have an effect, as the word can be applied to gay women too. I have to say that in my own experience, when I hear it in gay circles, it tends to have a rather heavy erotic charge; or is that just me?
