After noticing the scores in the competitions this year, and the people who are "4 bombing" them to hopefully gain some kind of competitive advantage (It doesn't work, I delete all votes from other competition authors, and note who's trying to sabotage other people's average scores), it's time for a bump!


I got a bit nervous about this practice last time I entered a comp, though. I was tight on votes at one point and had some other entrants in the list (since I hang out with a lot of the usual suspects in Rump's). I'd hate to get dropped from a comp because I was at 11 votes and two were fellow entrants who were perfectly honest in their voting.

I have to say this...I don't know where you got that video of me from - but it kinda sums up my state of mind at the moment. Very hilarious. I loved it.

I have to say though 4-bombed is OK - it's reasonable to expect that. It's when I'm 1-Bombed and 2-Bombed - that's when I want to know who did it.

Ditto. Personally, I'm less concerned about votes than about comments anyhow. Those are how I learn how my readers react to a story. In a comp, as long as I get the 10 needed to advance, I'm generally a happy camper. I am glad that Nicola is doing what she is doing to try to avoid the problem, though I think dropping votes by other entrants that are 4 or less rather than all votes by other entrants would make as much or more sense.

Change your settings so a comment must be made when voting. I've seen that that helps.

(If you know who is doing that, giving you ones and twos, block them.)

My settings are set to ask for a comment when people score my stories. But I don't think it works that well when stories are viewed on tablets (maybe its an Android thing). I have seen ones and twos on some of my stories and there has been no comment. Still, if the person thinks it's crap, then I'm cool with that. Just tell me why! Don't be shy, I won't get upset. Life is too short for that.

Truly fucking brilliant. The girl saying "I'm sure he wasn't talking about your poems" made me laugh out loud.

I am perversely proud of the 1's I get, because if I cause that big a reaction I figure I am doing something right. Getting a handful of 3s and 4s might mean something is genuinely wrong with the story.

A thoughtful comment is way more important to me than a vote, though.

I think it's funny that on this site a "4" is seen as an insult.

I don't think people realize how high the quality is on this site...both in terms of writing and feedback.

I have literally had death threats from other sites.

If someone sees your story as so much of a threat that they will try and bomb it.... then probably 10 times as many will be giving you a positive review.

Anybody that enters a contest on lush and then bombs competitors (or gets other to do so) is a fucking loser. Probably the same type that writes numerous poems in order to jack up their numbers...
