I guess I can post this in the "Hardware" section!

This was heartening to read: http://for.tn/2eHOgQa

The environment will be a lot happier for it.

It's good to see the direction we are taking, as conscientious global citizens. Clean Renewable Energy, Electric Vehicles, Energy Storage, are all very positive steps, in terms of reducing the pollution levels, globally.

Vehicles are also high up on the worst offenders list. Germany are one of the front runners in banning internal combustion engines: http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/237320-germany-votes-to-ban-internal-combustion-engine-cars-by-2030

China and India are following suit: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/carl-pope/the-internal-combustion-e_b_10928278.html

It's not hard to see why these steps are becoming urgently necessary. Fancy a visit to Beijing?

This is Greater Gabbard offshore windfarm in Suffolk...

I didn't know its name until I looked it up but see it every time I go to the beach. It's 140 turbines out of a total of 7000 the UK now has.

From Wikipedia...

The UK is one of the best locations for wind power in the world, and is considered to be the best in Europe. Wind power contributed 11% of UK electricity generation in 2014, and 17% by December 2015. Allowing for the costs of pollution, particularly the carbon emissions of other forms of production, onshore wind power is the cheapest form of energy in the United Kingdom.

11% to 17% in just one year is a fantastic achievement and an upward trend I hope continues. Along with solar power, wind farms must be the way forward in the production of clean, sustainable energy. I'd also love to see more research and investment into capturing energy with tidal technology too.

That's just my for the day on energy

My new story has been awarded the Recommended Read. If you adore a needy bottom and fancy a short, but very naughty read...
The problem we have here in Ontario is that too many of our windfarms are on land and are (a) taking up agricultural land (because farmers can make more renting land to the power companies than planting it) and (b) are getting too close to residences in some cases. The consequence has been a pretty serious backlash politically. Solar has, of course, been less problematic but is also less widely used here.

I'm thinking my next car may be a hybrid but I can't see going full electrical until the density of charging stations gets better around here, esp. along the highways. You're okay if you have a longer range EV like a Tesla S but something like a Leaf would be pretty much restricted to staying within London and that isn't good enough for me.
It's a criminal shame that we don't use more solar. If governments poured financial supports/favourable taxation into solar at the same levels as they do coal and oil the price would become more affordable.
