LOL You people must be insane! I would give up sex before I gave up coffee and there is zero chance of that happening!
Well I was drinking way too much fresh ground "drip" coffee in university and was getting "withdrawal headaches" so I needed to go cold turkey for a month. Terrible!! No, could never give up coffee. I'll show up at Alison's with my latte and we can enjoy both our favorite vices!!
I was never much of a coffee drinker, but I was regularly in the habit of drinking a 24oz Diet Mountain Dew every day at lunchtime. One day, I missed my normal dose, and by three in the afternoon, I was completely non-functional. I couldn't accomplish anything that remotely involved thinking until I'd had my daily fix. After this had happened a number of times over several months, I started to wonder about my dependance on caffeine. I also came to realize that my sleep was drastically effected, the caffeine made me stay up late, but my schedule required waking up early, so I was not getting enough rest and, as I discovered later, not good quality rest to boot.
After doing some research about caffeine and its effect on the brain, I decided to wean myself off of it. I knew that going cold-turkey was going to be nearly impossible, so I went out and bought a 24-pack of 12 oz cans of Diet Mountain Dew and two 24-packs of Diet Dr. Pepper (which has less caffeine per serving than Mt. Dew). I progressed through all three 24-packs and then moved to something non-caffeinated. The first thing I noticed was that the 3 o'clock dead zone disappeared and also that I now needed more sleep. I went from averaging about 4-6 hours per night to nearly spot on 8 hours a night. In fact I found that even on days when I had no where to be and could afford to sleep in, I would sleep for almost exactly 8 hours and then wake up and (OMG!) not feel tired.
I maintained my caffeine free status for several years and these days I only drink caffeinated beverages on rare and fairly predictable occasions, such as when I know I will need the help staying awake past my normal bedtime. In particular, I find that I really miss the taste of Diet Mountain Dew and have one occasionally if I know I have a late night ahead. Tends to hit me like a sledgehammer these days, and I pretty much go cold turkey for a least a week afterwards to purge myself.
Good luck Nicola, I hope it works out for you,

"There is a face beneath this mask but it's not me." V - V for Vendetta
"If we shadows have offended, think but this; and all is mended that you have but slumbered here while these visions did appear..." Puck - A Midsummer Night's Dream - William Shakespeare Give up coffee - NEVER. Usually mix it with chocolate to give a proper kick! Mind you, not more than 1 bar choc and 1 liter coffee per day.....
I have started drinking full strength coffee again, but mixing it with decaf. I no longer have the horrible shaky feeling and stomach problems that coffee used to give me.
It's seriously not a great "drug" to get addicted to, that's for sure!
Everything in moderation!
I took the challenge and I must say that it was smooth, I'm on my third week. I have replaced it with green tea, usually Jasmine green tea. I must also add that occasionally I do have an espresso.
My reason for the switching was not the caffeine in itself but the milk. Since I liked my coffee light and usually 4 to 6 in a day, I was actually drinking well over a cup of milk per day. Certainly not good for someone that says " no, I do not drink milk".

Life is simple; we are what we eat and what we read. Talk is superfluous.
I used to be a three cup a day coffee drinker, but with one sentence, my realtor convinced me to give up coffee and I haven't touched a drop of it since February.
I used to drink massive quantities, in an effort to fight chronic fatigue. When I was finally diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and treated for it, I cut back to a more reasonable amount. I actually cut it out completely for a period of time due to medical tests at that time. When my doctor put me on blood pressure medication, she suggested I not drink more than 2 cups a day. I've been able to stick to that, but I do love coffee, real coffee, black, no sugar. If you are going to cut it out, I would suggest a gradual process, otherwise you will probably experience withdrawal, especially headaches.
HaHa! You wanna see a real bitch? Take my coffee away! I am evil before coffee!! LOL!!
I have never tasted coffee before.... ive been tempted to but a nice cup of green tea always wins me over. if its anything like iced coffee then id never drink it anyway. YUK.
There's nothing wrong with a cup or two of coffee, as long as your watching what you put in your body. Stay hydrated and make sure if your having coffee your not overdoing it on energy drinks, cokes, and other junk.
Just remember your body is made up of water. Make sure you drink some!
No can't Do. I did follow doctors instructions: "stop drinking coffee for at least one month" he said. Instructions were followed, BUT, on the third day my digestive system hadn't worked. Doctor said come back to your coffee. So, for me is a NO-No. I did try though.
Coffee is one of those vices I refuse to give up. I love my coffee, hot, black and strong. I think I do enough other stuff to counter, running, bicycling, working out. But if I have to go I'll go out with a coffee mug in my hand or a beer mug.
In truth though I avoid all caffeine from noon on through the night. Regular coffee in the mornings only, sometimes decaf at night.
giving up coffee for me would be like giving up oxygen me and coffee have been in a serious relationship now for 11 yrs and make sweet milky love atleast 7times a day.
giving up coffee = impossible
i gave it up for lent one time and it was nerve wrecking. i will not do that ever again.
I gave it up for about two months, a friend of mine said it might help me sleep better. I didn't notice much difference and went back. Love the Java!
I need it. I don't drink soda much, and it really helps regulate my migraines. Without it, my system can get a bit "upset". LOL It is bad enough that I am a walking barometer, to cut coffee out would really cause some issues.
I could give it up for a month, but I sure would miss it. I only drink 1 or 2 cups a day at most, but I really do like it alot. I had some Cuban coffee when I was in Miami once, it was great. Good strong flavorful coffee flavor.
I like coffee ...2 in am ......then 2 afternoon ...then no more ..or i wont sleep ....
i avent drunk coffee 4 yonks and yonks ... its yukkkkkkkk ... so i would never miss it ... tea and vodka 4 me ... better drinks haha .. not together now haha ...
I'm not a coffee lover either .. tea for me same as the mature and older lady above me .. coughs.
No problem, I am a tea person, and not a tea bag it has to be in a pot .... now if you said no tea or beer (ale) theres a different story....... owe No way ;-)
