So Ashley Madison has been hacked and the attackers are threatening to release personal information collected if they don't shut down the site and a related site for sugardaddies. Noel Biderman, the brains behind AM, has always come across to me as a bit of an ass so if this kills his little infidelity empire, I'm not going to weep for him (more like laugh hysterically).

I was on there a couple times (without much success) but also used dummy emails that are now shut down and generally did everything I could to cover my tracks so I'm not too too worried.

And the figure of 37 million that I have seen in some articles on the hack? Iffy. I would be willing to bet that half or more of the accounts on AM are fakes (can't speak to the other sites involved), many of them set up by AM itself to lure men on to the site. At least one of the women behind those fakes came forward and sued them so we have evidence for it. Of the "genuine" ones, there are also a bunch that are men pretended to be women for, I can only assume, lulz.

Adultfriendfinder was apparently hacked recently, too, so maybe those seeking an affair will be back to hitting on co-workers and naughty neighbours.
I am so surprised this hasn't happened sooner.

Me too. It's the perfect blackmailing tool.
I won't lie... I was laughing my butt off this morning when I heard this.

If a person is going to have an affair... they are going to have an affair. There is no denying this. If a person is foolish enough to use sites like Ashley Madison and AdultFriendFinder, then they go in knowing the risks.

I agree with VanGogh, I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Especially after all the other hacks that have occurred.

'Becoming the Hacker's Whore'.... someone needs to write it.
And I wouldn't be surprized if it happens here on Lush too.... NOTHING is private anymore. There simply isn't ANY privacy.... sigh
Great minds think alike but dirty minds work together.... ;)

Revenge of the Nerds V: Becoming the Hacker's Whore.

I'd read it.
Does Ashley Madison have big tits?

Interestingly, AM approached some of the top City of London brokers to help them raise £130m in order to float the company on the Stock Exchange. They were politely turned away. The brokers did not want to be associated with them. I believe the same thing happened in Canada last year.

Makes you wonder if they were being hypocritical and guilty of double standards when compared to some of the things that go on there. Or is it, perhaps, that there are some things that money can't buy!

I know, I get it all the time too!
I saw this and it made me giggle. It fits this thread nicely.

Well, the stolen data is now "out there" and Josh Duggar became the first "victim" of the hack (surprise, surprise) but given the size of the database, I'm sure a few more might turn up. They also stole founder Noel Biderman's email and the source code for the site, which leads to a lot of suspicion that they had inside help (since the former should not be available just from hacking the website).
