I get error message when I try to contact a friend

I have a new friend of two days and we chatted yesterday but now if I click on their account I get an error message. The account apparently still exists because I can see in my 'friends activity' that they are still active. At first I thought their account was closed but apparently it is not. Does this suggest that I am being blocked by them-although I have no idea why I might be?

What's the error message you've received?

And no, if user blocks you, you can still see their profile.

Perhaps they've deactivated account?

Edit:deactivated accounts are accounts that you still see on your list of friends but can't access as user has their account on "vacation" mode, if you will.

Deleted accounts, well, we all know how that page looks.

It says error 404-page not found.


But the 'friend'has since acquired another friend as per my 'friends activity' list and if I click on their new friends page, their avatar is there but if I click on that avatar on the new friends page it again gives the error 404 message.

The friend request was probably sent before they deactivated their account. When the other person accepts it shows up as an activity even though the person has deactivated their account.

Yes, thank you. That was what I was starting to conclude. She seemed to enjoy her chat with me too!

I am still a bit confused in this particular case. I have had friends that have deactivated their accounts in the past( not because of me!) but at that point they disappear off my friend list. This particular lady is still listed as a friend although the 'page not found' message still comes up if I click on her avatar.
Not a major issue but, as I say, I am still a bit confused.

Even if they are deactivated they will show up on your friend's list. If they don't show up they have unfriended you or they have deleted their account.

Some people will deactivate and delete some or all of their friends. I try not to take it personally. People have a variety of reasons for their actions. Most we will never know.

Thank you for the explanation. I am not taking it personally, I just found the fact that they are still listed as a friend to be confusing.

I think that when a friend had 'disappeared' before they must have deleted their account as opposed to deactivating it.

I will not let it concern me anymore!
