The Think Tank

As was suggested by Seeker4 in the previous thread with the same name, I opened a group called The Think Tank. Groups have some limits that make it very hard to have any discussion at all though. Most notable are:

• only two levels of replies max

• replies may not be greater than 1000 characters

The first can be worked around by replying to the original post with a quote of the reply you're replying to. This is kinda annoying, and combined with the character limit may not get you very far either, as the quote itself reduces the limit.

It would be nice it these limitations could be lifted altogether, or at least stretched up significantly. I can imagine that there are more groups that would benefit from this.

I cannot join any group that would have me as a member.

Though I do think there should be one thread, like the Rage Cage, devoted to politics, and only have the barest of moderation. Kind of a political free-for-all.

The Rage Cage rules are such that they hold back discussion. That's why a single thread seems sufficient. That won't do for a think tank though. If you want to just make your point, monologue style, the Rage Cage may be the place to go.

Just one thread total! Not one per topic. Allow people to respond to each other. Little to no moderation. Let the floors be covered in blood.

and the pages covered in hate speech, bigotry, and trolls? so, that's what you want to see when you come to Lush? Not a lot of great people and hot stories?

in all fairness, we gave the regulars in TTT chance after chance after chance to clean up their act. at some point you decided that they aren't interested. you do know that most of them have never revisited the site once we closed it down? also, there were about 6 or 7 accounts that were being run by 2-3 different people. so yeah, not really interested in opening up the door and inviting them back in to sow disinformation and everything that goes with it again.

If most of the folks who didn't clean up their act have gone, then maybe we can start with a clean slate ;)

Anyway, this thread is not about the Think Tank forum, but about the Think Tank group. And more specifically about the groups' limitations when it comes to having conversations/discussions there, which will probably also affect other groups that are not specifically media orientated.

Wow, I didn't know most of that. It got too goofy for me, and I was tryng to be as non-toxic as modern American politics allow. My only point is that limiting it to one thread limits the crazy, and might be kind of fun to watch. But it appears, based on this, that all sorts of toxic was baked into the bread.

Turns out that the error message that says that replies may not exceed the 1000 character limit is misleading: the limit turns out to be way less than 1000 characters.

Another limitation of Groups is that posting links is only possible on the main level. In replies URLs are just shown as text, not as links.
