I have not seen this issue previously addressed: in looking at a story on my phone, I somehow accidentally scored on it when I hit the "back" arrow to go back to a previous screen. I went to undo it, and I saw that the only option was to change the score, not undo it entirely. Is there some way of being able to undo a score entirely? Thanks!
As far as I'm aware you can't remove a vote once it's been cast. As you rightly point out, you have the option to change the vote, not remove it. Admin may be able to do it, but in my experience they'd only be possibly willing to remove votes where there's been blatant cases of trolling or vindictive voting. Perhaps you could try using the "contact us" function and explain what you'd like to do...
An option to remove an accidental vote completely would be useful, given that the option to change a erroneous vote presupposes that voters will make slips of the fingers.
I can imagine any number of reasons for wanting to nullify an accidental vote. Here's just one. You hated a story. If pressed you'd give it a 2. Generally you prefer not to vote rather than to vote a 2. You accidentally vote a 5. You now are sort of stuck. You certainly don't want to give this story a 5. But to go out of your way to fix your vote to a 2 that you wouldn't have given in the first place seems cruel.
I'm sure there are any number of other reasons.
I don't think changing the vote from one score to another is what the OP wants, but rather *eliminating* the vote as if it never existed.
When you click on Change Vote, you're presented with 6 options from a pull down menu: the 5 possible votes, plus the top option which simply says, "score." That one would seem to be the "let's pretend I never voted" option, and I experimented with it on a friend's story I had voted on.
It didn't seem to work, as his vote total didn't go down, and he later reported to me that nothing showed up on his timeline.
