using vague names of other authors incidentally in my story

I am writing a cuckold story and in it I have the wife talking to the seducer about reading cuckold stories online. The names are 'Angie something' or 'jenny' and 'james'

Is this in bad form? I don't want other authors irritated at me or moderators either.

I am referencing 'Keylime something' and actually talking about one of my stories.

I am thinking referencing myself should be okay, right?

I think it would only be bad form if you mentioned the full Author name without their consent.
"Angie, Jenny, James-something" is very vague and are three very popular names in real life.

I'm not entirely sure what the rules are, though. Hopefully one of the Story Mods will see this and chip in.

I seem to write a story every 1.5 years on average.

Referencing yourself is totally fine and as Georgia said if you use Angie, Jenny, and or James it's fine. If you want to use someone specific like, "You should read Georgia_27_8." you would need to get their permission and then just let us know in the Mod Notes.

I have a new story out! Wish You Were Here A teasing sub may I have pushed too far, but the punishment is oh so sweet.

Why would it matter if one of the characters mentions reading some Lush author, or any other author that has published any stories? Their names and stories are publicly available and unless it says/suggests that those authors did or say something, other than publishing their story, I don't understand why one would need their approval.

Would one need approval from Google or Microsoft to have one character say "It was still the early days of Google Maps, and Kasey was having a hard time finding the place" or for using "As Windows was firing up, …"? How about "Aaron had planned to finally start reading Stephen King's latest that night, but…"?

- Just sometimes, this community can be a finicky and squabbly bunch and not get along with eachother.

- If the story being written is in a family related category, included person(s) under 18 but above the site requirements for erotica of 16, or, part of another category they don't like - there are some members who won't want their name to be mentioned anywhere near it which could mean editing later down the line without an agreement during writing.

- Others may want to silently build their own reputation, rather than being promoted or directed to by others.

Beyond the things Georgia pointed out, it's the polite thing to do. Some people don't want their name associated with someone else's work or with other members so it's always better to give them the option to say no.

thanks for the ok. I can appreciate that more direct references might make someone uncomfortable. so far it's been a friendly group and I don't want anything to threaten that.

most authors will probably be ok with it . that said, as Molly pointed out, the polite thing would be to ask first. THAT said, if it's vague, like James, Jenny, Angie, etc. you really don't need to worry about it. those are pretty generic names.

You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

Of course it's polite. But it being polite is something different than it being required.

Deciding to publish stuff under a certain name means that the published work and the author's (chosen) name are now public, and therefor can be referenced I would think.

It is something that we have always asked of our writers.

I have referenced other Lush stories and also included Lush friends in my stories (obliquely.) I always tell them and confirm that they agree, One of my stories won't be published as one of my friends doesn't want that. Maybe, I'll rewrite it in a more acceptable way ,,, who knows. The nice thing about lush is that the writers are supportive so why would you want to upset the applecart by irritating a colleague.

Can I also add, if you're naming a character in your story after an author, it should be as near to a 'normal' name as possible. So Georgia, rather than Georgia_27_8 for example.

No-one wants the following exchange...

"I'm so sad that your wife died all those years ago, but I'm glad you're ready to love again," said PussyFantastico69.

"Me too," whispered MANMEAT274839372, his eyes brimming with tears.

Is MANMEAT274839372 a real member on here?

Asking for a friend... biggrin

Kindness is contagious. Spread it! ❤️

I am inspired by a few authors on Lush and by general reference I may allude to them in some other way than by name in my writing.

LOL! Maybe their parents' names are Elon Musk and Grimes.
