Can we PLEASE have the option for longer word limits? An option to post longer stories wouldn't affect anyone negatively and would open up more in-depth erotica.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. I just want to post my stories without having to split them into 50 parts :P And, yes, I have tried writing shorter stories but they're not my thing. I'm having to not post my stories at this point sad

Short answer: no. For a host of reasons, not limited to the fact that the volunteer moderators barely have time to process stories under 10K words, let alone monster submissions of half a million words. You'd be waiting forever for it to be published here. Plus, most readers prefer their erotica in shorter formats.

What's your preferred story length to read?

Over one million views on my stories can't be wrong, so please dive in and browse my 168 stories:

* 34 Editor's Picks, 87 Recommended Reads.
* 18 competition podium places, 12 other times in the top ten.
* 30 collaborations.
* A whole heap of often filthy, tense, hot sex.

Take advantage of the "Novels" category and publish your longer stories in chapters smile

The sweet spot for the overwhelming majority of readers are stories that are about 3-4k words, so I would break your longer stories down into chuncks of about that size.

My readers on here enjoy the longer stories, so I think people can enjoy shorter or longer stories. Plus people don't really have the option to see what kind of stories they enjoy when it is limited. Additionally, I couldn't really post my stories in shorter chapters as the stories are written as one story with no chapter breaks. Artificially breaking them up would ruin the flow. I guess I just won't post here, but thank you for the kind thought smile

As mentioned earlier, the availability of a verifier who will mod a booksworth of a single story...

I highly recommend maximizing the 10,000-word upper limit per submission under Novels. It's still about 3,000 words more than your 'usual' stories. Your readers will follow each 'chapter' if they are into it.

I've been reading techgoddess' older novels for a while and still get drawn to each succeeding chapter.

I tend to write relatively longer work as well. When they run over 10K, I try to find a good point to break the narrative in two. It's not a big deal most of the time, but I'll echo what everyone else here has said: Most readers here don't have patience for lengthy stories. I value the people who do read and appreciate my work, but they're not the majority. Also, as much as I've also grumbled about word limits (especially in the challenges), there's a real art to editing judiciously. Paring down a story to its essentials is an underappreciated aspect of the craft of writing, and probably what separates the amateurs from the pros. What can you get away with not saying? Or in the words of Miles Davis, "It's all about the notes you don't play." I'm still working on doing more with less, myself.

Don't believe everything that you read.
