Saw Infinity War.

Josh Brolin as space Debo was surprisingly good. Liked the Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Thor and Guardians sections the most. The Guardians sections were genuinely funny and they were the most effective as a team. Ebony Maw was better as a henchman than most superhero villains.

I thought Brolin had the perfect facial structure for Thanos, but when I first heard his actual voice as Thanos's I didn't really feel it worked. It just wasn't what I had pictured in my mind. During the movie it totally grew on me though.

And I totally agree. Ebony Maw was one of my favorite characters. Totally creepy. He reminded me of like a 16th century Spanish Inquisitor. He really shouldn't have been killed so easy. The rest of the Dark Order was meh... A lot of potential wasted.

If I had to nitpick the movie I would say it was silly as fuck to have super powered heroes like vision and scarlet witch get defeated by villains that human characters like black widow can handle afterwards. Also, wakandans with spears (SPEARS) and clubs (CLUBS) fighting super powered aliens like nothing while super powerd beings are struggling. Makes no sense. That's about it though. The only thing that took me out of the movie for a bit was people with spears n shit fighting along the earths greatest heroes. Dumb as fuck.

A lot of people were complaining that the "Wakanda characters" didn't get enough screen time. I think they might just be still high on the Black Panther thing. I actually haven't even seen Black Panther yet, and I'm already sick of hearing about these characters.

That whole Wakanda Battle scene was kind of just a distraction to me. I generally get bored with action fight scenes because you usually know the outcome. This movie was unique in the MCU because the fight scenes had actual consequences. I was engaged in the fight scenes because there was actual emotional currency.

The Wakanda scene was just generic action movie garbage with known characters killing off masses of generic "red shirt" enemies. I think that's why they had the non-super powered people fighting them. They tried to increase the emotional currency of the situation with Bruce Banner being overwhelmed in a sequence... But they should have had at least one of the Wakandans die in a glorious defeat type situation.

I agree with your views on Black Widow... I think comic fans know the relative powers of these characters but the general populace doesn't.

This movie actually had some relatively realistic fight scenes. For some reason though, they still feel the need to portray a 120lb female (without super powers) beating the shit out of 20 guys at once.

The fight between Thanos and Hulk at the beginning of the film was technically very proficient. Kudos to whoever choreographed that scene. And when Thanos knocked out Captain America... That is how a knockout should seem. Brutal.
Saw -- The Greatest Showman -- What an awesome movie, totally the greatest!!!

Want to see -- Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom
Just watched 'Dunkirk.' While I appreciate the effort to make a film about the experience rather than the history, I came away disappointed. Everything seemed flat. The Spitfire's hopelessly unrealistic glide at the end didn't help matters, either.

"It seemed like a nice neighborhood to have bad habits in.” Raymond Chandler

The Gin Rickey Singularity -- Dirty Talk competition entry

Lucia Makes a Bet

Barn Dance

Shock Wave

Game Night. It had some of the funniest one-liners throughout the entire movie. It did run a little long, but the one-liners made up for it.

I want to see Jurassic World and Gotti.

I have a new story out! Wish You Were Here A teasing sub may I have pushed too far, but the punishment is oh so sweet.

If you haven't already, please check out my story with leftlingula. A husband and wife rediscovered each other and It all started with one simple word...
Nightshade Part 1 & Nightshade: Part 2

Just watched Black Panther and Jumanji - Welcome to the Jungle.

Both had African cat themes, but I definitely preferred the latter. The kids and I
really enjoyed it.

Black Panther felt too much like a blending of other movies, including James Bond.
The scene with the research lab and the suits was too Q-like. Plus, why could some
people die and others can be saved? Too damn inconsistent.

And the bad dude.

Just too silly. Bad attitude. Bad black dude from the USA. Too cliche. I'm too burned
out on the whole, make-as-much-money-as-you-can Marvel ride. Just like Star Wars.
Will not be seeing Solo or any other bastardization. Sigh.

Against my better judgement, I really hope Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is good.
The trailer with the swimming dino in the surfing wave is just way cool.

The Incredibles 2 and Sicario - Day of the Soldado are two others I'm excited about.
LOVED Sicario. Amazing tension and cinematography. Too bad Emily Blunt isn't returning, but Josh &
Benicio are wonderful to watch. Love those dudes.
Saw -- Game Night -- Lol, what a game...

Want to see -- Jurassic World - The fallen Kingdom...Only a month to go...
The Spy who dumped Me...More or less than a month and a half to go...
Mamma Mia 2 - Two months to go...
Sigh...

Just watched HBO’s interpretation of Ray Bradbury’s, Fahrenheit 451. They changed so much from the book. I’m reserving my judgement because I liked many things that they did. However, they changed too many vital aspects. It didn’t even end the same way. Sigh...

Vegging right now again watching my favorite movie of 2017, Atomic Blonde. Awesome soundtrack.

Coincidentally, sexy Algerian actor, Sofia Boutella isinboth movies

How does it feel, to treat me like you do...
Forgot to mention... Dazed and Confused from 1993.

So many young stars like Matthew Mcconaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Adam Goldberg, etc.

I can't believe I hadn't seen this. Just happened to be on TV one night when I couldn't sleep. Brought back
so many good and bad memories - bush parties, the clothes, the cars, the music, and the weed-infused culture.

I enjoyed this movie but not as much as the movie it blatantly copied - American Graffiti, one of my all-time favs.

So many parallels. Driving around in cars. The teen struggles. The angst. The era-related soundtrack. Coming of age.

Was produced by Richard Linklater who produced the amazing, Boyhood from 2014. Kudos on both.
Watched Black Panther Saturday and Infinity War Sunday. Then had to listen to the guys tell me why half the Avengers weren't really going to stay dead! Ahhh... comic books! lol

Did you ever see Everybody Wants Some? It's another Linklater film that was released a year or two ago that is supposedly the "spiritual sequel" to Dazed and Confused. I enjoyed it as some of the characters in it reminded me of my college friends.

I haven't, but I will now. Thanks! I've seen a few of his films and really enjoy them. I don't know why I'm sounding surprised

Another movie of it's kind is Garden State. That one I can watch over and over. Again, the soundtrack gets me, but the actors, dialogue, and
their characters are mesmerizing. It's also fun seeing a younger Jim Parsons & Natalie Portman, but not to forget Zac Braff, Peter Sarsgaard, Jean Smart,
Ron Lieberman (I've always loved) and of course, Bilbo Baggins himself, Sir Ian Holm. Wonderfully moody picture. Love it.

Thanks again for the tip!

This movie is very mediocre... But Charlize Theron is awesome in it.

Is Charlize ever NOT awesome? And if she isn’t she’s still gorgeous as fuck.

Deadpool 2 was a blast. Loved everything. It was a rockier beginning but it was like downing speed and X the rest of the way. Non-stop. And Zazie Beetz is a scene stealer and she looked heavenly with that fro.
I just got home from Deadpool 2.

So good.....

And soooo many Easter eggs..

I loved how the trailers completely misdirected the audience.

An Easter egg that most people probably wouldn't grasp is: When he's in the X-Mansion they have a TV showing a news show telling that "Christopher Plumber rejects role in Deadpool 2."

This was a reference to how many people wanted TJ miller to be dropped from the film because of his recent sexual assault allegations. Christopher Plumber replaced Keven Spacey after his issues on "All The Money in the World."

Great cameos.

Great shots of Vancouver. And thank you for providing Canadian jokes that aren't overused and cheesy.

Its rare for a comedy sequel to be as funny as the original, but this one is. In fact it might be funnier.

If I could pick out a negative, it would be the CGI stuff... but they kind of address that in advance. I also think that they could have given a bit more of background with the Essex House orphanage.

I can't wait for the extended release with all the deleted scenes.

There is one where he goes back in time and strangles a baby Hitler in the hospital.... Apparently that was rejected by the studio...

"You're welcome Canada." smile
Been rewatching the Star Wars prequels and originals because I might actually go see Solo when it comes out, despite not having seen any of the last three.

Just saw Solo. I really enjoyed it after going in with low expectations. There were lots of easter eggs and tie-ins to both the original three films, the prequels, and the animated Clone Wars series (according to my Star Wars scholar of a friend sitting next to me).

So good...

Wish I had decided to watch this today instead of Avengers: Infinity War. Having said that, I guess Chris Hemsworth was worth the 2.5 hours of sitting and of course the trailer for Venom.
50 Shades Freed, back in Feb. We do not go to movies very often. Maybe 1 or 2 a year.

Watched What We Do In the Shadows on Netflix. Quite funny, sometimes rather dark and some serious gore. Basically, it's a reality mockumentary about four disparate vampires sharing a house in Wellington, NZ. When a young local gets turned by one of them, things go downhill fast. Co-written, co-directed, and starring Taika Waititi (whose profile subsequently got turned up a few notches by getting the nod to direct Thor : Ragnarok for Marvel) and Jermaine Clement (of comedy group Flight of the Conchords).

Favorite bit: No revisionism. These are classic, Dracula-style vampires (in fact, Clement's character is basically Vlad the Impaler). They fly, turn into animals, use mind control, and kill humans by the bucketful for food. It's just played for very dark laughs rather than straight horror.

I’m watching this tonight. Mixed reviews, mostly favorable but I enjoy the unusual, dark, and twisted psychological thrillers.

Great movie.

He also directed "Hunt for the Wilderpeople."

Such a unique style of humor.

I can't wait for what Taika Watiti does next.

Well, there's talk about him and Clement finally doing the promised sequel about the werewolf pack who are antagonists in this one. And also about a possible TV series based on What We Do... .

However, I know a lot of Marvel fans who loved Ragnarok would love to see Marvel Studios bring him back for another MCU movie.

Should have time for another flick this afternoon but not sure what to watch. With my sparse movie-watching in recent years, I'm woefully behind on major flicks. Right off, in my current Netflix list: Rogue One : A Star Wars Story (the only SW currently on Netflix Canada) is tempting but so are Cloverfield (the original), Arrival and some others. Guess I have to decide what I'm the mood for: space opera, kaiju, or serious s-f.
Ghost in the Shell.

Great CGI and that's all.
My wife and I recently pay-per-viewed Hostiles, The Post, and 12 Strong. They were entertaining and well done.

I enjoyed Rogue One...it didn't really feel like star wars though. I've seen it four times now. As with star wars, you can pick it apart depending on your fan boy level. Cloverfield was ok. Found footage Sci Fi seems a bit dated to me now. Arrival is a bit slow. I'm going to have to watch it a second time to get a feel for it. Denis Villneauve is a great director (He did Bladerunner 2049 and Sicario.) He uses great sound editing and cinematography to enhance the tension of the film.

If you haven't see Sicario, I would suggest that over any of the others. Really great directing and characters.

I'm glad you saw Hostiles. I liked how for once they showed the violence on both sides in a a brutal, realistic fashion.

The Post was a generic newspaper movie....

Total Oscar bait. I was glad it didn't win even though it was a fine film.

12 strong was a disappointing movie. The lack of strong character development turned it into just a kind of modern war film. I get absolutely bored with Afghan and Iraq war films. I appreciate they tried to do something different but it all seemed by the numbers for me.

Hostiles 8/10
The Post 7/10
12 Strong 6.5/10

The ratings coincide with the order I liked the movies. The movies were all predictable but well acted with fun action. Christian Bale seems to always put in an excellent performance and he did so in Hostiles. There were a few hokie scenes like when attacked by the Commanches, why didn't the soldiers get their rifles as soon as possible instead of fight them off with pistols? Not very realistic. Wes Studi, while a main character, actually didn't say much but didn't need to.

I think everyone is familiar with Wes Studi, who is now in the Western Movie Hall of Fame, from playing the bad guy Indian in Dances With Wolves and The Last of The Mohicans. He is a Cherokee from Oklahoma and a Vietnam War veteran. After his first divorce when he was still young, a friend suggested he get into acting to meet women. So he did.

I like the Seth Meyers video. And yes, Georgia is the fourth state. smile The Paper is very well acted but like the video implies, it runs along the lines of every newspaper movie ever made.

12 Strong is a typical war action movie, well acted and enjoyable but not spectacular.
