I've just noticed that everyone that had the omnium badge has now lost it - the badge stats are empty!

What a shame - I struggled for ages to get that. I know, I'm only 12 more categories away but there's one category that will stop me now.

Never mind - I had it and I'm grateful for that. Just wish I took a picture of it - lol.

I've pretty much given up the idea of getting one. But, I have faith that Nicola will come up with something to recognize the variety of categories someone has.

I have three famous stories, 2 recommended reads and have come in the top ten in two competitions~ Come in and make yourself at home.

Yeah, every time I check off another category toward the omnium badge, they'd add more categories. Sadly, it's not just a reality for me either. So, I'll just add stories to the different categories as time goes on.

Congrats on at least earning it once. You did much better than I did.
I just changed my IF story back to the original story, with a slight change. Now it's BDSM. The Omnium badge is not worth it and out of reach. I feel cleansed.

I had it as well, and am very disappointed in losing it without some sort of consideration being given to the few of us that had managed to earn it. I will add the additional stories in the 11 new categories and hope nicola and Lush does the right thing and make the IF an "optional" category for earning the badge. If they don't, I am not sure just what I will do. I was quite proud of having earned that badge and I will be quite saddened if I am either forced to write something I feel quite dead set against to regain the badge, or forego re-earning it. As an aside, I also hope that the next time Lush decides to add categories, they consider in advance a way to either grandfather in owners of the badge, or allow some sort of grace period to add a story to the new category(ies) before just deleting the badge.
The first time I earned the Omnium badge there were several categories that challenged me as they took me out of my comfort zone. Losing the badge when the category was taken away (which was a good idea) was no big deal, I edited that story to fit another category. Luckily this time I was able to move some of my older stories into the new categories. I have three categories left to get the badge back, not holding my breath on that as I saw voting on new category(s). I cannot and will not write a story in the watersport category. Knowing I earned the badge not once, but twice is good enough for me. So I will write in the categories I’m comfortable in. Before I wrote this post, I did move a recent story in the category thinking I would earn back the Omnium badge. That’s before I noticed the watersport category. I will not do another story.

Whatever the final decision is in regards to the Omnium badge, I want to wish the best to those of you who work towards it.

I feel really bad for those that had received the Omnium badge then lost it because of new categories. To me it seems a bit unfair. They should be able to keep there badge and have something a bit different for the new categories. Especially with two of the new categories you have added in. It’s wrong to make them go against there morals to regain a badge they already had.

The idea of an Omnium Legacy badge was mentioned by someone recently (that person has my apologies for not getting their name so I could credit the idea) I think this would be very fair to anyone who once held the Omnium badge and lost it as more categories were added. If that person re-achieves it, than the legacy badge would be replaced. It just isn’t fair to take it away without so much as an honorable mention

The Wild Girl anthology need not be read in any order but does take place in the following timeframe

Wild at Heart- 1968. The story of Dani’s Great Aunt Evie.

Wild Oats. Part 1&2. -2021. Dani is 16 and sets her sights on her stepfather.

Wild Child. 2025. Dani is now 20 years old.

Personally I have no aspirations in earning the Omnium badge. There are two of the original categories that prevent me from that goal which is fine by me. I write what I know (or at least can envision!). With the addition of these new categories, I have found that in my repertoire, I have been able to move a few - a.k.a. many - stories around to cover most of the new categories. Horror and Steampunk are yet to be tackled, but I'm working on that too.

Now the future categories that sprite has mentioned might be stretching that wire a tad thin! Nascar sex?? And how the hell does mapmaking (topography) have anything at all to do with sex? LOL! But again, I have no plans to cover all the categories anyway so that "Interracial Teenage Sex with An Alien Monster on Tuesday Under a Full Moon Category" might have to go unfilled too!

Nicola responded to that. She said that something along the line of that omnium legacy badge is on her to-do list.

Hey... pssst.... that's an l (as in luscious) at the end of my name, not an i
Having given this matter consideration, I don't really want to have more than one badge with the word, "Omnium" in it.

How about, on top of the existing Ominium badge (translation from Latin, meaning "All") we add a badge for authors published in 80%+ of our categories? That way, you can leave out any categories you don't wish to write in.

There are 51 categories at present.

If we introduce a new badge, what should we call it?

"Naughty 40" - published in 40+ categories.

"Eager Beaver"

"Mélange"

"Medley"

Any suggestions?

My personal feelings on this have been expressed earlier. I will amend them to say either allow an author to pick 1 (or perhaps 2) categories to be optional, or just make the I F one (since it is the most controversial, and the one you do not even like) optional as I suggested earlier. I think while most authors may have a few categories they struggle with, simply because the genre is out of their wheelhouse, they probably don't have more than 2 that they have a moral objection to.

Also, the problem with the 80% goal is that next time you add 3 or 4 or 10 new categories, the threshold goes up again and people lose the badge anyway. If you do want to make another badge using a percentage, then I think 80% is too low. Unless you make a couple of different levels like with the author badge itself... Excellent Eighty (when you hit 80% of the categories) and Nifty Ninety (when you hit 90% of the categories) or even something simpler like Category 80% and Category 90%. Or just add it as a number like Category 30 and Category 40 when that number is reached. That would eliminate losing the badge because the threshold number changes with the addition of more new categories.

One other thing, that I also mentioned before... it does seem unfair to take the badge away simply because the site decided to add more categories. Perhaps a heads up to the few people holding the badge before new categories are added, giving them a chance to have stories ready to post or move, and/or a grace period after they are released to to fill the new categories... It was a difficult badge to earn in the first place, and now will be even harder. As one of the holders of the badge, it rather feels like a bit of a slap in the face to just wake up one day and find it gone.

*edited to add statement in bold
I'm sure there will be accommodations made for those of us who had the Omnium before and have now lost it. I like the idea of more badges at different levels of accomplishment. It makes it fun.

Now, I have one caveat. I would hope that any of us who have achieved the Omnium once more will be graced with all of the badges created to salute those making it to the lower levels. The reason I ask this is because of the Authors badges we now have. When Gav created the Author 50 and the Author 100 it was great to have more badges to play with. However, it was a little bittersweet for me. I had already written over 100 stories. I got the Author 100 badge. But I didn't get the Author 50 badge. Why? I never did understand why I didn't deserve to have that extra badge. Anyway, in this situation, I already have all but one story to get the Omnium back once again. That means I've achieved all of any lower levels that may be created. I do hope I receive those when they appear on the site.

I am such a badge whore, don't you know?
LOL, This ^^^^^. I have 7 stories to go, though 1 is done and 1 is in progress. But I am really torn between going for the badge and my feelings about the I F genre.

Just a reminder that this category will now house cousins/aunt/uncle/nephew/niece etc. These stories were here all along, although were in the category.

This may be more palatable to some who want the badge, but don't want to write the usual 'direct relations' the category brings to mind.

What about relationships by marriage (i.e. in-laws)? Technically, those are not " " in the traditional sense of the word but just thought I'd clarify to be safe. I do have one story involving such a relationship currently in .

They were there in as long as step was in front of them, which made it minimally more palatable. when the I F category was here before, it always included blood relatives, including extended families, not just immediate families.

Yeah, steps, in-laws, foster and adoptive families will probably still go in . Close relations without being blood.

Adele, I just meant that while some are bothered by, for example, mother/son, they might not have the same reaction to cousins, which isn't even illegal in many places. Was just trying to think of a option for people who don't want to write a typical story in this category.
True Jen... Darwin was married to his first cousin...

Thanks, I will keep that in mind, though still hoping for it to be an optional category. If I do write, it will be the last category I tackle.

No worries. Can't believe you're on your second already! Happy writing xx

Don't do it. I honestly felt like something inside of me died. It's not worth the ugliness. I understand the site needs it, and I'm fine with it being here. I don't want LUSH to suffer or god forbid, have to close up. It will get read and written by PLENTY of people. You don't have to be one.

I'm up for the challenge.

I have one more story to go which is in progress.

I plan to get the badge back soon.

Thanks to Nicola and all the moderating staff for challenging us all with new and exciting categories.

Hugs and Kisses,

That sounds like a lesbian story title.

I laughed out loud.

I don't see a problem with the bar needed to earn an Omnium badge occasionally being raised higher. Of course, I've written in maybe 5 categories, tops, so I don't really have a horse in this race.

I think the I-word category should be optional. I'm also curious if anyone who is offended by the category has been tempted to write an angry story about the I-word, sex scenes included, that shows the true damage it causes, rippling across families and generations. Would not be a happy story, or much of a turn-on, but it could be powerful.

Keeping with the Latin theme:
excitable: cum mobiles (eek no)
body of work: labore corporis (nope)
enticer: Raptor (Verbal might like that one)
entices: illicit
prolific writer: siccos (lol)
eighty: octoginta (don't let Sprite decide)
hot writer: calidum scriptor

80 = LXXX (my personal fav, simple and to the point) "L" for Lush, XXX for erotica, its damn near perfect!

EDIT: plus LXXX = 4 letters, just like LUSH, and it would be pronounced licks...80 being representative of the 40/51 categories or 80%
