Hello! May I ask: How many days does it take to approve a competition entry?
I submitted mine yesterday. I hope it's not too late! ๏_๏

I wonder about the mentality of those submitting AI generated material. Jen et al. have not exactly been subtle or unclear about the site's stance on AI, both in this comp and in general. I see no way they could plead ignorance.
Do the people who submit them anyway think they are somehow the one that will slip through?
Or the one so good it will inspire a change to the rule?
Or do they see it as a protest against the no AI rule? Wear the team down sort of thing.
Anyhow, we have 60 human entries and a few days to go. That's pretty good, really. Wish I had the time and energy to read more but between vacation with limited Internet and illness, I have only scratched the surface.
If I may add, let's not forget the financial benefits. Bagging the prize money is their fuel instead of passion for the craft. Also, the $$$coins from potential tippers. For social clout. This can also be an avenue for them to capitalise on their 'popularity'. Gaining more friends and followers who think they can really write.
P.S. Feel better and get well soon.
PPS. No more AI stories-related comments here from me.

offering them accommodation on a dingy, stained mattress in the basement with no windows and a single locked door before we herd them towards the shredder in the corner. We're getting there.
( *The apology to anyone who's into the mattress, windowless, locked door, shredder thing is implicit, and I am certain is no judgment on you, if you are.)

Although I am only just another member, so I carry no authority to say this... However, I can reassure you that competition stories are given priority and will go to the front of the moderating queue. I also believe that once you submit, you have entered. Now, it is just down to waiting for a moderator to become available.
My guess (assuming it meets grammar standards, etc.) is it will be published in the next 24 hours. 😊

You submitted within the submission period. It may take days and a platter of patience for the mods. It depends on the story volume in the queue. Nevertheless, since it was submitted days before the close date, your story may be out soon provided it doesn't get rejected for valid reasons.
To ease your mind, I suggest you check to make sure that your story is not in your Drafts or message a story mod who is online to confirm that your story is in the queue.
In case it is stil in your Drafts, before you submit, make sure to toggle on the Enter Competition button located just above the Cover Image. That is to ensure that your story is properly tagged as a competitiion entry as compared to regular stories.

Thanks for these suggestions.
I've just received the slight revision suggestions from my mod, which I've worked on. Keeping my fingers crossed that it gets approved this time.
(On a side note, I'm happy that you interact on here, even if you don't in the chatrooms. Haha! 😇 )

I appreciate your response! I asked because, as a silver member, I often need to wait for three weeks to get feedback for regular stories that I submitted. I don't feel the difference in the waiting time when I was a non-paying member. It's my first time to enter a competition. ![]()

Competition stories always get priority, as it gives other members (like me, actually, definitely me 🙄😈) the opportunity to read and comment on your competition entry. I don't know, but I would be surprised if being a silver member makes that much difference in the wait time for a competition piece.
BTW: competition stories are not judged on the number of likes you receive. In fact, I believe the number of likes are largerly incidental. I know one winner who received just 15! 😊

Waiting times can be long as the Mods are snowed under, but I believe competitions get priority. Good Luck in your first competition.
The mods have asked time and time again if people would give a decent amount of time between submitting stories, to give others a chance. It's a pity some people ignore this.

You're welcome. Congratulations for your story's approval!
(I used to banter until it became chaotic, with some rude, even demanding members at times. I prefer unrushed exchanges in the forums over sporadic chaos in the chatrooms. Lurking is not a violation.)
This is an interesting question, because it’s really more about psychology than AI itself. I think there are a mix of motives here. Some people probably really hope to “get through,” especially if the rules don’t formally check the provenance of the text in detail, or if there’s a chance that the quality of the work will outweigh the fact that the tools were used. Others may simply not fully distinguish between AI-assisted and fully generated text, perceiving it as part of their own editing process or inspiration.
There’s also the option that for some it really looks like a way of protesting — that if the text is good, it doesn’t matter how it was created. But in practice, such competitions usually focus not only on quality, but also on compliance with the rules, and the organizers explicitly emphasize this. So “changing the rules because of one strong text” is usually not a realistic strategy.
If we extend this logic a little, similar discussions often arise in other digital spheres, for example in PEI online gambling https://interacasino.com/regions/prince-edward-island/ where there is also a constant balance between automation, algorithms and the human factor. There, users sometimes perceive the system as something that can be bypassed or used to their advantage, but it is more of a source of impulsive income and entertainment.
And, as you yourself noted, some people can think even simpler - in terms of potential winnings, followers or attention, where the main thing is not the process of creation, but the result. In the end, it is a mixture of different motivations, and not one clear logic.
I'm very impressed with the 'Elements' competition badge. It is my second-favourite of the ones I have gained so far.
Did you design it, Jen?
Or was it one of the hundreds (possibly thousands) of people you have working for you? 😜😈

It's beautifully designed, indeed! Thank you, Jen. ![]()
Hi, guys! I am not familiar with the criteria for judging in the story writing competition, as it is my first. But I must say, whoever is judging the entries, they will have a difficult time. Many stories are equally beautiful, sensual and powerful. So glad that I get to read more entries this week. ![]()

Totally agree. The standard in competitions is so high. I couldn't possibly select a winner. I have several that I love equally. I look forward to seeing if the judges think the same. Enjoy your new badge!! 🤣
